wait I totally missed Tiffany's exit waht

assorted curses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 16:51 (thirteen years ago) link

She basically said "I can't wait to get home to my girlfriend!"

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 16:53 (thirteen years ago) link

So when Carla [Hall] breaks down crying and says, 'Marcel, I was so wrong about you…you're actually the nicest guy I've ever met'—because I was helping her roll her spring rolls [which received more praise from the judges than their actual flavor], developing her recipes, giving her recommendations—they just don't show any of that.

"If they want to paint me and portray me as an asshole, I don't really have any control over that.

You do, however, control whether or not you sound like an asshole in interviews.

boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Friday, 14 January 2011 16:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Ironically the most assholish thing about that statement is the parenthetical which obv Marcel had nothing to do with! Even his interviews with friends are edited to make him sound like an asshole!

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I suspect it is because his friends are also assholes

Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:03 (thirteen years ago) link

How can y'all hate a man who "cooks for the people"? Why do you hate "the people"?

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:04 (thirteen years ago) link

I wonder if the chefs have the presence of mind to be able to recognize that they are on the chopping block. I mean that when Casey was eliminated, Jamie thought she should have gone. Wouldn't you step up your game at that point instead of serving cucumber water for the next elimination?

righteousmaelstrom, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm not sure Jamie has much of a game to step up.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:09 (thirteen years ago) link

we ate her restaurant for the company Xmas party one year and a whole bunch of people got sick (they ordered the seafood option)

assorted curses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:10 (thirteen years ago) link

ate AT her restaurant

assorted curses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:10 (thirteen years ago) link

She also seemed/perpetually exhausted/bored of being there ya know. Not sure she was much interested in hanging around.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:10 (thirteen years ago) link

never get the scallops at jaimies restaurant

From the novel "Spinster Dinner" (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:22 (thirteen years ago) link

Having been to one of Jamie's restaurants I would just say don't go to one of Jamie's restaurants.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:26 (thirteen years ago) link

I was gonna say, was it scallops they ate?

righteousmaelstrom, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:27 (thirteen years ago) link

iirc they only serve scallops at Jamie's restaurant lol
her restaurant is a giant scallop

pureed cucumber with water. just thinking about it made me feel sorta queasy.

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:34 (thirteen years ago) link

nah I think it was salmon or sea bass, something like that

assorted curses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:35 (thirteen years ago) link

and my tattooed bisexual coworker hit on Jamie when she came to our table

also saw Jamie when she was doing hot dogs at that street food festival thing on Folsom st

assorted curses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:36 (thirteen years ago) link

lol @ "doing hot dogs"

sorry that just sounded hilarious in my head, bc I am a 16 yo boy

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 14 January 2011 17:37 (thirteen years ago) link

no, i was gonna post "german shepherds?" but stopped myself

From the novel "Spinster Dinner" (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 January 2011 17:38 (thirteen years ago) link

hahah

Ironically the most assholish thing about that statement is the parenthetical which obv Marcel had nothing to do with!

Revealing/claiming that someone broke down crying, proclaimed you the best person ever and then stating that you were feeding her ideas and recipes (while she's won two challenges thus far and Marcel zero) is pretty damn assholish. I'd have SBed him for that.

boots get knocked from here to czechoslovakier (milo z), Friday, 14 January 2011 18:32 (thirteen years ago) link

am finally warming up to Carla, I didn't get her for a while (never saw her season) ...but that moment where Marcel slaps her down for celebrating that she won really turned me off Marcel. I've been stanning for him but that was just the worst kind of dickishness. Especially to her, she seems very open and would not treat anyone that way herself.

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 14 January 2011 18:36 (thirteen years ago) link

ha, i was saying when that happened that the phase carla made was all "o i'm such a bad person"

From the novel "Spinster Dinner" (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 January 2011 18:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Carla is amazing IMO (not necessarily as a chef, although I am 100% certain she is great, but as a person I wkiw)

Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 14 January 2011 18:44 (thirteen years ago) link

er "face" rather

From the novel "Spinster Dinner" (forksclovetofu), Friday, 14 January 2011 18:46 (thirteen years ago) link

So far she and Dale have made the food I'd most like to eat. I think it was Dale who made the deconstructed breakfast, right? With the broth that Dufresne said tasted like buttered toast.

hahaha...and she can research space cake recipes and write the whole thing off as a business expense!

1st of all, Carla is the best. 2nd of all:

I also loved Tre's "after spending the last couple of weeks around Marcel I've basically concluded the guy is kind of an asshole" line.

that was my favorite part of the episode.

i felt bad for marcel on his season because of the meangirls behavior of the rest of the cast toward him but he is being ridic on all-stars.

horseshoe, Friday, 14 January 2011 21:58 (thirteen years ago) link

the thing is, he GENERATES meangirl behavior, so I don't have all that much sympathy

Marcel disappointments me most because he ruined his "cool guy" potential

homeless romantic (CaptainLorax), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:11 (thirteen years ago) link

I feel he ruined any "cool guy" potential when he showed up in season 2 looking like Hermey the Misfit Elf

Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Most of these people are pretty uncool.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:29 (thirteen years ago) link

like I said upthread, I knew a really cool guy with the same haircut and blade burns as Marcel. but he wasn't an outspoken asshole. and he was 10x more gritty

homeless romantic (CaptainLorax), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:30 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah but did he KEEP IT REAL like Marcel does

assorted curses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean it's not like Angelo or Jamie or for that matter Anthony Bourdain comes across any less narcissistic or lame than Marcel does really.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Anthony Bourdain seems like he would be pretty insufferable in person, I'm always perplexed by people that claim he seems really "cool"/down to earth. he seems like a douchebag - the kind that still thinks wearing leather/riding a motorcycle/knowing the names of the Ramones makes him "rock and roll"

assorted curses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:34 (thirteen years ago) link

He'll ride that ex-heroin-addict tricycle until he's 99.

earnest goes to camp, ironic goes to ilm (pixel farmer), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:36 (thirteen years ago) link

thanking you

ex-heroin addict tricycle (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Bourdain is a total ass, but he is also funny.

Indolence Mission (DJP), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Old dude struggles to stay cool, news at 11

polyphonic, Friday, 14 January 2011 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Bourdain talking about being "cool" (which precludes him from doing things like dancing or singing karaoke) is one the best parts of his show

J0rdan S., Friday, 14 January 2011 22:45 (thirteen years ago) link

YES. There's one where he's in Russia (?) and he has to go to this massive cabaret with dancing girls and disco lights and he is so uncomfortable and talks so openly about how much he hates it that it's even better than if he had actually enjoyed it.

His 'coolness' can be a bit of a bugbear at times, but he's self-effacing enough to know when it's good comedy.

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 14 January 2011 22:50 (thirteen years ago) link

i dunno just watching a few eps of no reservations would suggest to me that bourdain is actually a pretty gracious guy, and not at all a self important gasbag like Marcel. I mean maybe he was like Marcel in his 20s but he isn't now

ullr saves (gbx), Friday, 14 January 2011 22:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Marcel would benefit from army bootcamp imo. Or a tour of duty. Or just a series of short sharp punches to the face. Maturity and perspective is what the dude needs in spades.

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 14 January 2011 22:54 (thirteen years ago) link

have a coworker who assisted carla in a class once who confirms that she actually is, in reality, one of the nicest people ever.
