alternately, remy, candydirect.com? (i'm not sure what constitutes a "real" gumdrop, though)

Plump jelly gum drops bursting with assorted flavors with a coating of sugar on top!

Our Price: $21.50
Pounds: 5

surely they are still around? or when you were a kid was each one hand-carved by a swiss master using only the cartilage of the gentlest baby unicorns?

Red licorice sucks. In fact, it isn't even licorice. I'd say people that like red licorice are going to hell when they die, but evidence suggests that they are already in hell since they're eating red licorice.

the only licorice that's red and doesn't suck is the panda kind. i think the fact that it's raspberry, not strawberry flavored helps. though i do have fond memories of my aunt buying twizzlers for the movies and using them as straws... they got all gross when the carbonation attacked the waxy part of the candy, but it was still fun.

Wait, so seek Mike and destroy Ike? I'm confused.

C'mon. We all know Mike's been carrying that freeloader for far too long.

Like, Earth to Ike: the only reason you're in the candy game at all is because your name happened to rhyme with Mike's.

Plenty.

sno-caps were the first thing to come to mind when i saw the thread title. they seem like a candy from another time.

PARTYMAN (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 17 August 2006 03:08 (seventeen years ago) link

what are sno-caps?

rrrobyn, the situation (rrrobyn), Thursday, 17 August 2006 03:27 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost to july - i love black licorice but it's not really movie theatre candy. i don't even eat food at the movies. but when i was a teenager we would sometimes sneak candy in, and that is when my love for red twizzler licorice began. fuck that stuff is good. it's the perfect combination of fake-fruit taste and edible plastic texture. nothing else is like that. and you can tie it up in knots. now i eat it, like, twice a year, and it is still damn good.

Are snocaps like what we call freckles, but with white sugar dots instead of multicoloured ones? ie a disc of choc, coated in sugar sprinkle thingamees?

Toblerone is a candy that I don't care about

These days, I don't eat at the movies. But my confection of choice used to be Jordan Almonds, and I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned yet...

snocaps are little waxy chocolate chips covered with white nonpareils. delicious!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 17 August 2006 12:39 (seventeen years ago) link

in the spirit of this thread i went to the deli and got some sour patch kids & lion king fruit snacks (timon & pumba fruit snacks, actually, in the shape of bugs with "gooey" centers.)

snocaps are gross. do you really like stale chocolate, lauren?

I like Raisinets. You should never pass up chocolate-covered raisins. Or chocolate-covered peanuts, which I also find at the movies. Also good to select: the bite-size Butterfingers, Reese's Pieces, and the Kit Kat bar large enough to share.

I have just noticed that, unless I am misunderstanding, Abbott's MOM grew up in the 1970s.

I know Abbott is young, but I didn't know that anyone was that young.

I wonder how much this influenced my lifelong affection for Junior Mints - - pretty sure my family started getting them at the movies right after this aired. They're very refreshing!

Jordan Almonds rule. Around here it's rare to see them available anymore though. So I go hungry.

BTW my wife introduced me to her practice of shaking a box of milk duds into a bag of movie popcorn.

I was skeptical.

It is magical.

Try it.
