As beers go, I don't recommend the Vienna style lager. The knockoff Corona however is almost as good as the real thing.

The Trader Jose's thing? That shit is tasty!

Almost as good as Corona is not high praise in my book.

I do think the TJ's Dunkelweisen and Hofbrau Bock are pretty good.

but i think that is fake tecate, which is also shit.

no longer finding the mint chocolate UFOs or the quart of strawberry yogurt at my TJs, this is very disappointing.

currently loving the little dry pint pack of little sweet peppers. Picked up these goofy pea puff snacks today, they are like cheetos but made with peas, they are very snacky. $$ for basically air though. My 2 yo girl loves the dried seaweed snack, the other day she was no-nap delirious, naked on the kitchen floor doing the curly shuffle while cramming seaweed in her mouth, I was dying.

The one in Brooklyn has these "Taster's Packs" of Unibroue beers for $8 right now -- it's 4 different strong ales in the 8-9% alcohol range. Drinking a Don De Dieu right now, a belgian-style golden ale. Quite good.

fuck I haven't had unibroue in a while

I hope (fer yer sake) there is at least one Fin du Monde in there, because that shit is some golden fucking ambrosia

bernard snowy, Saturday, 5 March 2011 22:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Bought the Unibroue assortment a couple weeks ago and it was great. and, yeah, there's a fin du monde in there. (plus maudite, don de dieu and one I can't remember).

Yeah, there's a Trois Pistoles

Definitely. Drinking it right now. Though the $2 upgrade to Trader Jose is worth it -- if you like cerveza.

yeah that red curry tuna wasn't that good

los blue jeans, Sunday, 6 March 2011 02:04 (thirteen years ago) link

I enjoy the red and green curry tuna packs.

Jeff, Sunday, 6 March 2011 02:06 (thirteen years ago) link

sweet potato gnocci however - not too bad at all

los blue jeans, Sunday, 6 March 2011 02:07 (thirteen years ago) link

do you heat up the tuna? I had it room temperature - this could have been the problem

los blue jeans, Sunday, 6 March 2011 02:07 (thirteen years ago) link

?? I always heat up the tuna curry, both colors, and it is always delicious.

first it smells like donuts, then it smells like don't ask (askance johnson), Sunday, 6 March 2011 02:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, I use a rice cooker with a steamer basket. Rice in bottom, two tuna packets on top in the basket. All done at the same time.

Jeff, Sunday, 6 March 2011 02:28 (thirteen years ago) link

ah. good idea. might give that another shot.

los blue jeans, Sunday, 6 March 2011 02:47 (thirteen years ago) link

There's a refrigerated thing that I think is new, with hummus, some kinda little chopped up salad, tahini and pita/falafel. It's pretty good, especially if you're too lazy to make your own falafel. And oh, am I.

Aquarian Necromancer Octopus (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 6 March 2011 07:20 (thirteen years ago) link

i just cook the rice and mix it up with the room-temp tuna.

hauntological-hysteric theater (get bent), Sunday, 6 March 2011 09:23 (thirteen years ago) link

The tuna also good on noodles, and they don't have to be Thai noodles, I usually just use fettucini.

Lincoln Park TJ's construction update: The lights are on inside and they've installed many shelves, freezers, and fridges.

Jesse, Monday, 7 March 2011 02:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I actually thought the tuna curry was kinda gross, but whatev.

jaymc, Monday, 7 March 2011 04:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Were you eating it cold right out of the pouch with your bare hands while sitting in a dark room alone and crying? Because you should really heat those tuna things up first.

Sweet & Spicy Pecans are delicious. Problem is I could eat the whole tiny bag, which contains 5 servings. Normally, I could care less, but it just seems excessive with 950 calories and 85 g of fat.

Ooh I got those for 1st time recently. Problem is my oven doesn't get hot enough to cook them. Thinking about combo microwave and toaster to finish off the package.

TJ's butternut squash ravioli for breakfast. Normally I'm down with the squash+pasta combo, but this is cloyingly sweet for something that should be savory. Too much brown sugar?

They had these pretty tasty little Mexican chicken pizzas. And now they're gone because the masa crusts turned out to have trace amounts of wheat. Damn you, gluten intolerants!

Those pretzels are amazing! I'm always afraid of cracking a tooth, but that makes me eat them slowly. So good.

I have been totally enjoying the not-from-concentrate cranberry juice. So tart and clear-tasting!

I was really into these honey-wheat pretzels rolled in sesame seeds. Can't remember what brand, but they were damn good. Would stan for pretzels! Especially because I love mustard and they are an excellent vehicle.

two weeks pass...

I have eaten (and continue to eat) a shocking number of graham crackers for someone who is not 6 years old. Trader Joe's cinnamon grahams are the #1 best. Store brand and Honey Maid -- you are in trouble. They taste like cookies. If only they had some with some ginger in them, whoa.

Dud/destroy: TJ's gourmet jelly beans. Like, some things you just can't make with natural flavors.

phantoms from a world gone by speak again the immortal tale: (Jenny), Wednesday, 4 May 2011 15:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Yay! First shopping trip to the brand new, very local TJ. The experience was horrible (went right after work and without the slightest list or plan, plus I left my heavy gym bag in the cart, so I didn't want to let it too far out of my sight, making navigating hard), but I enjoyed a tuna curry and got a bunch of other crap like chili peppered pineapple and frozen mango, which is great in the Greek yogurt with a little honey.

i meant to offer my support for the panang curry sticks. they're delicious and so quick in the toaster oven.
