MAX, EVERY DiCraprio/Damon thriller IS ABOUT TRUE LOVE, which SUCKS!!!
the "funny premise" WAS NOT DONE AS COMEDY.
"'heaven can wait' had that premise sorta"
Stamp seems merely a slightly more malevolent celestial messenger than the avuncular Claude Rains-James Mason model, and the Adjustment Bureau members' physical and telepathic limits remain murky, as does the question of whether they use the main reading room of the 42nd Street library as a base only during overnight hours.

btw, can u tell in that review how I avoided saying Anthony Mackie was playing a Magic Negro just cuz i didnt want to deal with ppl who'd never heard the term?

Bagger Vance, the adjustment bureaucrat with a heart of gold
for a movie that wasnt a comedy there were a lot of jokes!
― max, Monday, 28 March 2011 03:58 (thirteen years ago) link
im not really even defending it, it was pretty inconsequential, which i liked about it
q: do u like apples?

i know, i am no fun. i didn't realize it was supposed to be funny! as a serious movie, it is super-dumb. maybe i'll give it another try...i'm totally not going to, though.
― horseshoe, Monday, 28 March 2011 04:24 (thirteen years ago) link
as long as i'm being an asshole, i might as well say i never thought "how do you like them apples" was that funny, what with the labored "do you like apples?" setup, i mean, who says that?

So, The Adjustment Bureau.
Offers: Matt Damon running away from Roger Sterling with a hot chick!
Delivers: Matt Damon with a MAGIC HAT going through MAGIC DOORS trying to stop a wedding. Roger Sterling peripheral and uncharasmatic.
Fucking stupid film.

despite having genuinely never seen damon in anything i thought i didn't like him but i watched the adjustment bureau last week and now i really love him.
this is in spite of the fact that the AB is not that great but it does have a lovely atmosphere and moves beautifully in spite of the poor plotting/plot holes everywhere!
― jed_, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 22:10 (twelve years ago) link
some down the line good will hunting shit right there. i love the cameraman chipping in in the first place!, with that compelling, inducive stat on 10% of all practitioners being bad at their job.jed should i be adding TAB to my list of engrossing sub-standard american movies to watch y/n

schlump it's good fun and, as hm says, they are good on screen together (i like emily blunt too). it has some good ideas which are not explored as fully as they should be but i actually found it thought provoking.

i enjoyed adjustment bureau. roger from mad men is also in it getting up to some science fictional tricks.
― estela, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 22:41 (twelve years ago) link
maybe you're a shitty cameraman !
― conrad, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 22:41 (twelve years ago) link
the romance is the weirdest & most real thing about it. which is probably the point but if it was they didn't push it far enough.
it's a little like punch drunk love, actually.
― jed_, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 22:42 (twelve years ago) link
I love that in order to somehow make a non-point they inject file footage of him from a movie
and, not knowing they were going to do this, he still keeps his cool but burns them just enough with the "shitty cameraman" line
― mh, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 22:42 (twelve years ago) link
Also, "do you think job insecurity is what makes me work hard?" is the best line
I mean, really, people who go on about job security and joking about how to get it are really the worst people.
