It is oddly catchy but those vocals, man!!!
I actually have both the Teriyaki Boyz albums, they've done way better than that

The title song is amazing! I've been curious about their other work.

iirc their first album was mostly about takeout food, so you got the idea
it's actually a supergroup of famous Japanese rappers

Manohla Dargis on Diesel v Rock fight scene:
They are the fast and, yes, the furious. Yet as these giants grasp each other's bulging muscles, their bald heads rearing in the frame with tumescent vigor, it's easy to imagine that they'd like some alone time. They don't get it, largely because the earth might spin off its axis if they did, though also because the director Justin Lin, having come of cinematic age in the maximalist era of Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay, cleaves to the principle of more.

Is there anyone surprised by that, though? At least, anyone who's seen at least one previous Rock or Vin Diesel movie?
― Dreaded Burrito Gang (DJP), Friday, 29 April 2011 15:00 (thirteen years ago) link
well, I've only seen Southland Tales and The Iron Giant.
― your generation appalls me (Dr Morbius), Friday, 29 April 2011 15:01 (thirteen years ago) link
okay yeah, "The Iron Giant" is gonna register pretty low on the sublimated homoeroticism scale

Great NPR segment yesterday where a reviewer was enthused about how these movies treat race. Then they played a clip of that Onion interview.
I think I'm the only person who saw Justin Lin's breakout movie (Better Luck Tomorrow) and was kind of intrigued by him working on this franchise.
But yeah, Tokyo Drift for sure.

Very much not the only one, I think there's even a thread on it. I still have a copy around somewhere.
― Ned Raggett, Friday, 29 April 2011 15:17 (thirteen years ago) link
It was decent.
OK, I'm listening to that Tokyo Drift theme song and completely understanding why Dan bought the soundtrack

discovering/realizing "She Likes To Move" (aka "the only N.E.R.D song I ever want to hear) was on it as well was just a bonus, really

Anyone actually see it?
I saw it in a packed theater who took the movie seriously for about 3 minutes (up until that ridiculous bus flip scene after which the reporter says "surprisingly nobody was hurt"), and then it sorta morphed into a comedy after the ridiculous train scene. Got a lot of laughs when they pulled up the Rock's FBI profile and he's doing the People's Eyebrow. In fact, the Rock's very first scene was incredible ("stay the FUCK out of my way!!" - to a total stranger).
Don't think this is much of a spoiler but this could have potentially been one of the greatest of all time in camp action movies if the Rock had jumped out of the bank vault in the end, if you've seen it you know what I'm talking about

5 is far and away the best one, but all of em have their entertaining qualities. (except for maybe the 4th, which is sort of tedious.)

i loved five but i have no desire to see the earlier ones. all the backstory I needed came from Vin Diesel either frowning or smiling when other characters appeared on screen.
― da croupier, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 13:00 (eleven years ago) link
look at you poseurs. i only want to talk to people who like & respect the entire fast and furious saga. 5, 3, 1 (after this a sizeable dropoff) 2, 4 is how i rank them... 4's the weakest but it has a few good moments
― turds (Hungry4Ass), Wednesday, 22 May 2013 18:15 (eleven years ago) link
is tokyo drift 3? if so then i mostly agree with that ranking.

i might see 3 cuz justin lin obv impressed the right people with it and i've been on team lucas black since american gothic
