For my boyfriend's birthday I got his initials, M.S. tattooed on my ankle

it's the Anglo-Saxon/Elder Futharc runes Mannaz, humanity (M) and Sowilo, sun (S)

Making some groundwork on my very first one. Already did a consultation and am now waiting for some art to come back.

it's kind of an in joke between us, as Martin and I were supposed to get matching tattoos on our ankles ten years ago (of the number .23 in a weird old font taken from a coat check ticket used in a Kurt Schwitters collage) and i got mine and he didn't because he saw how much pain I was in and chickened out. So I have that on my right ankle, and ten years later, I got another Martin-oriented tattoo on the other ankle in the same place, same size . . .

So, ankle really was the most painful spot?

No, I would say that the sternum has hurt me the most- but see tabes upthread about the ribcage, he said that hurt more.

I think you should just get a tattoo on the place on your body where you want one and not think about the pain part. The pain is temporary and the art is what counts.

Yeah, doing arm(s), regardless of the predominate lack of pain thereon.

I just got the second to last part of my half sleeve done a couple weeks ago and it shot "over your collarbone" to the top of the most painful list. Other things have hurt to some degree but this one actually felt really unpleasant and I didn't get enough of an endorphin rush to counteract how much it hurt.

Pain goes away and it's always worth it.

I'll second that, though I haven't had my clavicle or sternum done. It hurts, it sucks, but you've probably had worse pain.

Also the inside of my arm was terrible but no where near the sternum. I could feel my teeth rattling for four hours

TBH they all fucking hurt.

The inside of my arm, up near my armpit was bad. I'm very happy that don't want anything on my sternum!

I got one on the inside of my ankle a couple months ago and I swear that I didn't hurt at all. It sort of . . . tickled? I was sitting up and watching and everything and the guy kept asking if I was OK and it really was. It hurt way less than my others which are all on my back and had me in tears. A+ experience, would ankle tattoo again.

I'm in the process of doing a leg sleeve and let me tell you that getting your shin tattooed is not pleasant

How high up do you go with a leg sleeve?

Considering tattoos again -- something that has come and gone over the years but languished for lack of the perfect art/material. Might be more serious this time...I have to mull it over.

Was going to invoke the 'your body is a temple' saw BUT the author herself beat me to it. HOW many times did I hear that in church? "Why would you get a tattoo on your beautiful and scared body that we fought Satan to get? WOULD YOU SPRAY GRAFFITI ON THE TEMPLE???" I wonder if she is LDS.

Has it led you to self-growth? Nothing comes out of getting a Belle and Sebastian cd. You get a piece of morose bland music, and that's it.

I regret zero of my tattoos and well over half of my haircuts.

tbh I marked great changes in my life with some wicked scars and a police record so tattoos seem not bad

I was in therapy for a long time and we talked about tattoos at one point and my therapist (not herself the tattooed type at all) gave her take on them, which is that each tattoo is sort of a picture of who you were at the time you got it. thinking of them this way is really rewarding and rich to me, they're kind of more honest & direct & richer than say diary entries.

i've been perusing getting one for like 11 years but I've chickened out

And I, for one, learned just how limitless my shared experiences in this life will be.
