That too.

I don't know if I've ever seen a host used less than Ed Helms. granted, I watched the show on demand, where they cut out the monologue and a few sketches, but that small role in the Ambiguously Gay Duo sketch was literally the only time I saw him until after Weekend Update, well into the 2nd half of the show.
― some dude, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 12:35 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah. I was looking forward to it, since I went to college with him, but couldn't believe how little he was in it. Maybe they spent all week filming Ambiguously Gay Duo. I have a theory that whenever they cut to a commercial they've already shown, it's going to be a thin episode.
― dan selzer, Tuesday, 17 May 2011 12:53 (thirteen years ago) link
Helms played the banjo in "What Up with That."

GAGA.

but GAGA!!
― The Brainwasher, Sunday, 22 May 2011 03:28 (thirteen years ago) link
they're gonna give her a big ten minute block like they did jay-z right?
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 03:29 (thirteen years ago) link
gaga's on? i guess i have to go figure out how to get this to appear on my tv
― markers, Sunday, 22 May 2011 03:38 (thirteen years ago) link
shit, that's one of the best lonely island songs ever
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:00 (thirteen years ago) link
the melody in the hook is just the shit
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:01 (thirteen years ago) link
eh I didn't find it that funny tbh... I chuckled, that's it
― The Brainwasher, Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:03 (thirteen years ago) link
interesting tho that gaga will have a gay rights anthem on the charts at the same time as she's singing on a song that expresses a sentiment (jokingly or not) that is at least mildly homophobic
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:03 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah it wasn't even really that funny, i kind of wish it was a real, normal song tho -- from a pure musical standpoint i loved it
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:04 (thirteen years ago) link
i would go see a "the pianos of lady gaga" exhibit at the smithsonian in 20 years
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:05 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah, the actually song was pretty cool melodically, I agree.
anyway great performance by GaGa, love the piano-version of "Edge of Glory"
― The Brainwasher, Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:09 (thirteen years ago) link
"edge of glory" & "judas" are roughly 50,000x better than "born this way"
― J0rdan S., Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:11 (thirteen years ago) link
lol @ Gaga
― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Sunday, 22 May 2011 04:51 (thirteen years ago) link
I missed everything that happened after the What's That Name? sketch (left the house I was watching it at). Anything else funny after that?
― Johnny Fever, Sunday, 22 May 2011 06:58 (thirteen years ago) link
I thought the whole episode was pretty decent. I think there wasn't a single skit that wasn't a recurring skit, but they were all pretty funny takes on them. Normally I'm like "uh, this skit again" but they were good. Especially What's That Name.

xpost Johnny you missed Barry Gibb Talk Show!

Shockingly, Fallon didn't break. May have been the best BGTS ever.

I would kind of love it if Justin Timberlake joined SNL
― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 20:57 (thirteen years ago) link
Did Gaga don some weird pregnant suit? And then at the end, were they trying to make it look like they were pulling something out of her vag?Found it all a little confusing. Love the Barry Gibb talk show.
― Trip Maker, Monday, 23 May 2011 20:59 (thirteen years ago) link
JT & Gaga could totally slot into regular cast
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link
Weird pregnant suit: checkGiving birth to glitter goop: check
She did don a weird pregnant suit, and then they put her in stirrups, but then they completely punted on having her give birth despite a conveniently-placed pull tab on the front of her outfit. I felt robbed.
― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:00 (thirteen years ago) link
oh wait was she supposed to be birthing GLITTER
what am I saying, of course she was
lol forever
― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link
Yeah, I was really expecting them to pull that ring on the front of belly.I also felt a little robbed.
― Trip Maker, Monday, 23 May 2011 21:14 (thirteen years ago) link
I was convinced there was a puppy in there
― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 21:15 (thirteen years ago) link
Thought this would've been a decent midseason episode; as the season finale, it felt a little short on fireworks.
― jaymc, Monday, 23 May 2011 21:56 (thirteen years ago) link
Would have been awesome had they pulled the tab and JT popped out.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 23 May 2011 22:01 (thirteen years ago) link
If they'd have pulled the What Up With That? and the live-action Ambigously Gay Duo from last week's episode and slotted them in the best of this weekend's, you'd have had the perfect season finale.

Yeah, but then no one would've tuned in because last weeks was so bad.

True, but, y'know, sacrifice.

Bill Hader is the official "cast member who breaks" now, right? (I get why, esp. in the Stefon sketch, but still)
― I HAVE ISSUES (DJP), Monday, 23 May 2011 22:27 (thirteen years ago) link
For some reason it's funny when Hader does it but was always lazy when Fallon did it. (Hader obvs funnier, but still.)
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 23 May 2011 22:33 (thirteen years ago) link
God, remember the "Leathuhh" sketch w/ Fallon/Sanz? Did they ever NOT break? Like, even once?

what's the time frame on when cast changes happen? interested to see what happens this year, i feel like it was a really successful year for them in terms of buzz but i wouldn't be surprised to see sudeikis or wiig or even hader leave. also not sure the supporting cast was that strong this year but i think it's stupid when they dump ppl after a year
― J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:27 (thirteen years ago) link
last couple seasons the big news about who's leaving/getting fired hasn't come out until late august/early september, seems like they wait til rehearsals are starting for the season premiere to finalize or announce those kinds of decisions.
― The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:36 (thirteen years ago) link
i would be pretty bummed if sudeikis or hader or wiig left -- so sick of armisen but i guess they're going to keep his shitty obama on for at least 2 more seasons, and god willing hire a black man who can do a decent obama if the guy gets a 2nd term
― The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:38 (thirteen years ago) link
fun fact: fred armisen is now the voice of speedy gonzalez. there really is no ethnicity that guy isn't that he won't play!
― The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:39 (thirteen years ago) link
seems like armisen is on the darrell hammond track of hanging around for five years too long just so he can do two characters an episode
― J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:39 (thirteen years ago) link
You've gotta admit, Armisen's David Patterson had layers. Layers like, "Did you know that blind people can't see?" and...yeah, that's pretty much it.
― shake it, shake it, sugary pee (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:41 (thirteen years ago) link
i don't really think armisen is terrible as obama, i just think the writing for those sketches has been really poor
the same episode w/ the soul train sketch had a cold open w/ armisen as bloomberg addressing nyc after the epic snowstorms & it was really, really hilarious
― J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:41 (thirteen years ago) link
lol tarfumes
― The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 01:43 (thirteen years ago) link
his david patterson IS hilarious
i just don't think this writing staff has ever found a way to write funnily for obama -- sudeikis' biden has always been hilarious, but it's not even a 'good' impression really, he's just an easier person to write jokes about
― J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 01:43 (thirteen years ago) link
no, he's totally a lame obama. like, if you watch will ferrell's early bush impressions from fall 2000, he didn't quite have it down yet and was just kind of riffing on a vague idea of the guy that got more focused later on -- armisen is still like that after playing obama for 4 years
