Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:37 (thirteen years ago) link

apis is what i'm talking about

caek, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link

11:37 am Works on Macs and PC's too.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link

expected them to do an iphone thing and suggest some ridic stopgap as good enough.

caek, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:38 (thirteen years ago) link

as in tell developers they could use "HTML" to develop iphone apps

caek, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:39 (thirteen years ago) link

How is this all going to affect people with ISP monthly bandwidth limits, I'd like to know. Somebody's going to get some surprises on their cable bills.

what made my hamburger disappear (WmC), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:42 (thirteen years ago) link

if there's no sync for non-purchased music this will have been the cruelest joke

lukas, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:48 (thirteen years ago) link

Srsly. I've purchased maybe one, maybe two dozen songs through iTunes and have no plans to purchase much more.

scissorlocks and the three bears (Eric H.), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:49 (thirteen years ago) link

what about the mediafire cloud with all the free downloads for as long as you live- wiht never a charge

Latham Green, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Looks like this is emphatically NOT streaming, which from their and AT&T's POV make sense as it would be a bandwidth killer. It just means you can sync stuff across devices and access any of your purchased music from any device any time.

Shart Shaped Box (Phil D.), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:51 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah this is going to suck if this is it. bring on the google music shit.

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:51 (thirteen years ago) link

BOOOOOO.

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Jobs says all mentioned services are free.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:52 (thirteen years ago) link

"5GB of free storage for mail, docs, backups. Purchased music, apps, and books don't count towards that."

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:52 (thirteen years ago) link

IMO syncing is going to be better than streaming. 3G is too ropey for streaming. Ever tried using the Soundcload app?

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:53 (thirteen years ago) link

ok "one more thing"

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Soundchoad.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Ah, looks like they're using the "match" technology they acquired via Lala.com to address the "stuff not bought on iTunes" issue.

Shart Shaped Box (Phil D.), Monday, 6 June 2011 18:55 (thirteen years ago) link

iTunes match - $24.99 a year

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:55 (thirteen years ago) link

match service, upgrades all your stolen music to 256k drm free ACC....nice

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:56 (thirteen years ago) link

that is cheap. like, $75 cheaper than I expected. does it only give you 5gb though?

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:56 (thirteen years ago) link

"Apple charging one flat price, even for "20,000 songs.""

If he seriously thinks that's the upper limit...

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:57 (thirteen years ago) link

lol @ sync all stolen music

Latham Green, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:57 (thirteen years ago) link

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:58 (thirteen years ago) link

"You too can upgrade your cheapass Ben Harper and She and Him songs!"

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 18:59 (thirteen years ago) link

the question is will the new iphone support Friendster

Latham Green, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:05 (thirteen years ago) link

This seems nice:

10:20 am Next feature: Resume, instantly resume where you were in an application after you quit it.
10:21 am Even works system wide, when you reboot all of your windows and apps return how they were.

On first glance this seems like the most annoying thing ever

low-rent black gangster nicknamed Bootsy (DJP), Monday, 6 June 2011 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought it was some sort of resume updated for those who frequently change jobs - like it automatically updates your resume when you get fired

Latham Green, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:18 (thirteen years ago) link

hey so will i still be able to use this $25 thing with stuff that isnt available on itunes music store?

☂ (max), Monday, 6 June 2011 19:27 (thirteen years ago) link

apple basically just owns the entire recording industry now, huh

☂ (max), Monday, 6 June 2011 19:27 (thirteen years ago) link

No. Stuff that is on the store that you haven't bought via iTunes, yes. Stuff that is not in iTunes, no.

dan selzer, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:31 (thirteen years ago) link

11:54 am Library is scanned and matched.
11:55 am Any songs that remain, you can upload.

what made my hamburger disappear (WmC), Monday, 6 June 2011 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link

I'll have probably 200 gigs that will remain.

dan selzer, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:36 (thirteen years ago) link

:-/

☂ (max), Monday, 6 June 2011 19:37 (thirteen years ago) link

Is iCloud already up & running? The App Store icon on my iPhone is now showing all the Apps I've bought that aren't on my phone.

groovypanda, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Don't know if it came across but Steve sounded really really ill.

Don't get the difference between iTunes match and just wifi syncing. I guess you don't have to be at home for Match.

stet, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:49 (thirteen years ago) link

I bet Steve creates iBody for himself soon

Latham Green, Monday, 6 June 2011 19:55 (thirteen years ago) link

:-(

(eval ' (diamonddave85), Monday, 6 June 2011 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link

lion @ £30

guess I should just upgrade to an MBP now then

this you irl http://i.imgur.com/v3kw8.gif (cozen), Monday, 6 June 2011 20:02 (thirteen years ago) link

wifi synching moves the files physically. match doesnt.

akm, Monday, 6 June 2011 20:03 (thirteen years ago) link

How do you mean? with Match you don't need to upload the file, but all the other devices still have to download. Only difference is whether it's a Mac at home sending them the file or the Cloud,

stet, Monday, 6 June 2011 20:20 (thirteen years ago) link

its amusing taht if you work someplace where people are using itunes you can all steal each others music all day - i wonder if the icloud will work in a similar way

Latham Green, Monday, 6 June 2011 20:21 (thirteen years ago) link

is lion upgrade only from snow leopard or will it upgrade 10.5?

nultybutnice (whatever), Monday, 6 June 2011 20:40 (thirteen years ago) link

Snow Leopard only.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 20:41 (thirteen years ago) link

Apple's got the formal hoohah up on their site:

http://www.apple.com/icloud/

http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/

http://www.apple.com/macosx/

MacRumors and eight million other sites providing other summaries as well.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 6 June 2011 20:42 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks ned.
