meanwhile, here's my 40th birthday present, a bit of renaissance literary swag

lordy lordy look who's 40! wait, is it your birthday today? or did i miss it. in any case, have a great day. beavis & butthead would love that book. is that an actual 1st edition??? did it cost a million dollars?

I'm not really 40 til July 17th, this is an early present

Spenser published the Faerie Queene in (more or less) three different editions:
1590: Books I, II, III
1596: Books I-III, plus IV, V, VI
1611: Books I-VI plus the extra "cantos of mutabilitie"

so this is not the first edition, but it's the first complete edition, and since it's a 1611 edition of his Collected Works, it has lots of other poems too
