mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:07 (fourteen years ago)

obama and stefon could maybe be a good comedy team

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:09 (fourteen years ago)

am i crazy for thinking that a stefon movie would be good

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 02:12 (fourteen years ago)

feel like the character is at a good point b/w being developed & underdeveloped that might lend itself well to being expanded into movie format

a hundred times more than the macgruber movie at least

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 June 2011 02:13 (fourteen years ago)

DC's hottest new club is K Street's FNKK. It's got everything: Chandra Levy dancers, a dwarf dressed as a flat tax proposal, gary hart selling pubic wigs in the men's room...

xxp

haha

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:20 (fourteen years ago)

feel like stefon bits have to be the most fun to write for

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:21 (fourteen years ago)

stefon works behind the desk in front of an audience doing that particular schtick over and over -- can't see it retaining that in any context

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:21 (fourteen years ago)

i didn't love the macgruber movie but there was a certain kind of sense about them totally bucking the sketch formula w/ that movie

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:22 (fourteen years ago)

loved macgruber with the force of 1000 gales

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:23 (fourteen years ago)

but its success was def from not being like the sketch (how could it have been)

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

i just want hader to have a leading role in something, he's too funny not to

mississippi john hurt, but alabama john feeling okay (m bison), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:24 (fourteen years ago)

yeah i dunno -- i love him but he's such a 'character' guy, it might be my lack of imagination but i feel like he'll only ever star in something high concept w/ him playing something wacky, or playing it straight in supporting roles like in super bad/sarah marshall etc.

The bigman from the glorious 'e street' band (some dude), Monday, 20 June 2011 02:30 (fourteen years ago)

Hader's first starring role.

SNEEZED GOING DOWN STEPS, PAIN WHEN PUTTING SOCKS ON (Deric W. Haircare), Monday, 20 June 2011 03:40 (fourteen years ago)

Someone watch that clip and tell me if it's actually funny or Tim & Eric "funny" please.

The Hetfieldification of the Menopausal Male (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 20 June 2011 05:00 (fourteen years ago)

i think that soul train thing was like the perfect little gel cap of everything i hate about the show, j0rd4n. the fact that it was sort of clumsily put together, and it was fucking COMEDY SONG PARODIES. i guess i could forgive that but the material just felt sort of hackneyed, and it felt like there was no particular investment in the premise or whatever.

soul train disco comedy song parodies. fuck.

i think stefon is really funny.

dylannn, Monday, 20 June 2011 05:52 (fourteen years ago)

yeah, that soul train thing was bad.

mizzell, Monday, 20 June 2011 13:48 (fourteen years ago)

one month passes...

Season premiere: Alec Baldwin/Radiohead. FYI.

Also, Lorne sez all cast members are returning.

jaymc, Friday, 12 August 2011 20:28 (fourteen years ago)

what an improbable victory for the paul brittain preservation society

A B C, Friday, 12 August 2011 20:35 (fourteen years ago)

I actually wasn't sure at first if the comment extended to "featured players," but it seems like that's how people are treating it.

jaymc, Friday, 12 August 2011 20:59 (fourteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

Brittain is the nephew of actor Bob Newhart, who hosted Saturday Night Live in its fifth (1979–1980) and 20th (1994–1995) seasons, making Brittain the second SNL cast member to be the nephew of a celebrity who hosted SNL more than once (after Jason Sudeikis, whose uncle is semi-frequent 1990s host George Wendt).

I just found out about the Sudeikis/Wendt thing last week on WTF, and now I read the Newhart thing. Weirdness.

Also, seems like a greater funny disparity between Brittain and Newhart than with Sudeikis and Wendt.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 3 September 2011 05:22 (fourteen years ago)

well i love Wendt but Newhart obviously has bigger comedy shoes to fill

big spiritual hat club (some dude), Saturday, 3 September 2011 12:39 (fourteen years ago)

I dunno man, "pussy cancer" ftw

delmar dillinger (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 3 September 2011 17:04 (fourteen years ago)

season premiere tonight! excited

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 25 September 2011 03:16 (fourteen years ago)

Kinda feels like an extension of last season with a long break in the middle. NO new cast at all to look out for peels away a little bit of the anticipation.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 25 September 2011 03:20 (fourteen years ago)

Pretty sure someone at Jezebel is already typing out a screed on the "Red Flag" commercial bit.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 25 September 2011 03:51 (fourteen years ago)

I think I only listened to The King of Limbs twice and barely remember any of it...which song did Radiohead just play? Because that was great.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 25 September 2011 04:15 (fourteen years ago)

First one was "Lotus Flower," right? Sounded better than the album version.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 25 September 2011 05:06 (fourteen years ago)

Second one was Staircase (not on the album).

Melissa W, Sunday, 25 September 2011 05:29 (fourteen years ago)

the tony bennett thing was a-mazing

mizzell, Sunday, 25 September 2011 05:44 (fourteen years ago)

Yeah! This was a pretty good episode. Red Flag!

Gianna Michaels Sports Machine (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 25 September 2011 09:51 (fourteen years ago)

although i welcome new blood, it's not like new cast members ever really do much in their first episodes, they usually take a while to get some shine. so imo season premieres of SNL are usually more about "aww i miss (whoever left/got fired over the summer)" than anything else, which there was none of this year.

some dude, Sunday, 25 September 2011 14:36 (fourteen years ago)

They could've at least bumped Vanessa Bayer and Taran Killam up to regular status, but I guess that won't happen until Wiig and Sudeikis leave.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:14 (fourteen years ago)

kinda laughed @ the last 'dying wish' foxhole sketch but this ep was p dire

johnny crunch, Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:23 (fourteen years ago)

"The cast remained the same as in Season 36, although Nasim Pedrad was promoted from featured player to repertory player.[3]"

Well, that was long overdue (even though I didn't realize it when the opening was happening).

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:25 (fourteen years ago)

I thought it was a pretty funny episode! xpost

Gukbe, Sunday, 25 September 2011 16:30 (fourteen years ago)

yung huma (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 04:56 (fourteen years ago)

yung huma (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 04:57 (fourteen years ago)

Rory's new misogynist car (Gukbe), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 05:51 (fourteen years ago)

ima.tumblr.com (@imsothin) (m bison), Tuesday, 27 September 2011 10:52 (fourteen years ago)

who's on top was ok, my favorite recent game show sketch was what's my name
i laughed a lot watching this episode but looking over the sketches now, i think i must have been pretty drunk.
