They have cast Asha Greyjoy, but changed her name to Yara Greyjoy

Seems pretty perfect for the role looks wise.

So my friend read somewhere that The Dink went to the same very small HS as his nephew who just won some national debate title or something and so he shot Dinklage an email stating as much and saying maybe he could congratulate the kid or something. He felt sorta dumb but figured what the hell. As it turns out Dinklage totally wrote the kid a really nice note. I thought that was pretty sweet of him. I mean I guess it could have been someone who reads his mail but you never know.

They changed Robert Arryn's name to Robin in the first season as well. There are a lot names to keep track of in fairness
― Number None, Tuesday, 2 August 2011 16:47 (twelve years ago) link
lol so here's "Pete's" letter which is actually sweet but v show business insofar as him mentioning/referencing GoT twice in a short note. Still nice tho.

That's stupid, changing a name because of "Osha"! Have they even CALLED Osha by her name yet, despite her being in several very distinct scenes??

That is a really sweet note, ENBB. I like that he put GAME OF THRONES in nice big letters. I imagine him saying it in his GAME OF THRONES accent.

Just wanted to warn ultra-spoilerphobic people that it's probably a not good idea to click on these casting links.
Also, finished book 2! And have started 3. I'm not sure if the twists are as thrilling as 1, but then, I think that the most potent thrills came from the TV show.

― Number None, Thursday, 4 August 2011 16:52 (twelve years ago) link
yeah, i'd tell you where i got to but it would be spoilerz but basically GRRM killed enough ppl I cared about that i got bored and haven't picked it up in weeks.
― Mordy, Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:08 (twelve years ago) link
dude that's still pretty spoilery?

Ppl die in this series. Spoiler. But srsly if u have no idea who I care about how can that possibly be a spoiler?
― Mordy, Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:21 (twelve years ago) link
well i've read all the books so it wasn't that hard to intuit
― g++ (gbx), Thursday, 4 August 2011 17:25 (twelve years ago) link
but yeah i see yr point
Now that I'm 700 pages into the 3rd book I kinda wish they'd compressed the 2nd book into a chapter of the 3rd and skipped it. 3rd book is indeed crazy.

Thanks, now I'm on the lookout for many many deaths in the middle of book 3.
― his loser, bum of a son, named Jesus Christ (Leee), Friday, 5 August 2011 03:19 (twelve years ago) link
yeah don't be hinting at spoilers, its almost as bad as the spoilers themselves to anyone who's smart enough to actually ~make inferences~
― ciderpress, Friday, 5 August 2011 03:22 (twelve years ago) link
i don't wanna start a big tumult about this, but i didn't spoil anything and if you think any of these books don't contain numerous deaths you totally haven't gotten this series (and you probably didn't watch the first season of the show yet)
― Mordy, Friday, 5 August 2011 03:58 (twelve years ago) link
nods, winks, etc to specific deaths should be avoided. it would also be preferable for people reading the books to not know when or whenabouts in a book there is a HUGE SHOCK because then they'll be looking for it and expecting something etc.
Still, saying that people fucking die at some point in these books is not a spoiler at all.

It's sad he was Sean Bean. Don't think anyone has been particularly spoilery so far TBH, I've heard the later books are dramatic and I expect that to involve people dying.
― Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Friday, 5 August 2011 06:55 (twelve years ago) link
Knowing GRRM's rep for killing characters is one thing, but when you start indicating whereabouts these deaths happen, that's the beginning of some poor form. I definitely land on the paranoid end of spoilers (if that wasn't immensely clear already), because in the case of ASOIAF, I wanted those deaths to be as sudden and horrifying as Ned's was, but if at certain points in a book I'm starting to wonder if it's this character or that character, I'm not sure the actual death's going to have that effect on me.
That's why I'd hope that people err on the side of caution, because once the cat's out of the bag, that horse has left the barn.
― his loser, bum of a son, named Jesus Christ (Leee), Saturday, 6 August 2011 17:08 (twelve years ago) link
I mean, it's definitely an asymmetrical dynamic and a possible burden for fans who aren't Spoiler Nazis Socialists, but getting specific again, this thread is for the TV show, *not* what's happened in Storm of Swords (or at least till/if the show catches up with SOS).
― his loser, bum of a son, named Jesus Christ (Leee), Saturday, 6 August 2011 17:16 (twelve years ago) link
is the cat riding the horse? or did it scare it or?
― max, Saturday, 6 August 2011 17:23 (twelve years ago) link
the cat beat the horse at dice but then the horse took off across the river to catch a ship before it left

Just finished zooming through bks 1-4, but have no appetite for 5 after the ball-ache of 4. That's some sub-Silmarillion world-building-not-story-telling tedium, right there.
