Damon is quick on his feet and sharp, I like that a lot.

I mean, really, people who go on about job security and joking about how to get it are really the worst people.

Libertarians make me so fucking mad. I was pretty much a libertarian from age like 15 to 19. Took exactly one college sociology class to straighten me out. Just grown adults living in this state of arrested development because they can't empathize for anyone who isn't in their shoes. It's a total non-shocker that libertarians have rallys on places heavily populated by socially inept shut ins like the World Of Warcraft playing field.

james blood ulver (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 3 August 2011 15:09 (thirteen years ago) link

An illustrative story, perhaps:

So yesterday, a patron, regular or summer school student here, comes to the desk and heads over to the self-checkout machine to check out a book, and is failing at it. I've seen some people confused by the machine first time through but this guy is failing, period -- getting everything wrong. I go to help him, he mentions he's 'really high right now' and we eventually get his book checked out to him.

Said book: The Fountainhead

wait.. was there actually a libertarian rally inside the WoW game?

i got in an argument with a libertarian once and I was like, "You know like just being born black in this country means you're denied economic opportunities right and left." And his example of the apparently always-present ability to pull yourself up from your bootstraps and make it anyway was Andre 3000, lol

The funny thing is that he's right, based on the simple inability to hold a two- or three-shot and the dutch angle, dude IS a shitty cameraman.

a brief survey of right wing twitter accts shows that matt damon is wrong b/c he used the phrase "intrinsically paternalistic" proving that he is... a weenie

My family is packed with teachers, and very good ones. What they do is important and to say that they’ve made a difference in the lives of their students doesn’t begin to cover it. But this “preciousness” attached to teaching is nothing more than a political ploy. The Left is using the teaching profession as a way to strengthen corrupt pubic unions and increase the government payroll — two ways to capture political power and create more Democrats.

he's on to us!

If Matt Damon is an actor just because he wants to be and not for the money, then why doesn't get give ALL his money to the govt?

corrupt pubic unions

sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 3 August 2011 15:42 (thirteen years ago) link

My father has worked with his hands his entire life. He’s kept aircraft in good flying condition for the Air Force, fixed your cars, remodelled your homes, and kept many a nursing home from falling apart. He’s lived a life covered in fibreglass insulation, drywall dust and raw sewage. In other words, without a union or movie stars flacking for him or the media oohing and ahhing over his precious profession, he’s kept this world turning and done so without complaint or summers off.

What he does is no less important than what a teacher does, but he’s always been paid a helluva lot less – which is why the Left’s attaching of all this special nobility to a single profession is especially galling.

i love that clip but teachers don't work really long hours.

Sure, they don't get up at 5am, prep shit for class that day, TEACH children from 8-4, and then spend the night lesson planning and grading assignments. I must have confused that with some other occupation.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 3 August 2011 16:02 (thirteen years ago) link

teachers work crazy long hours! i basically see my teacher friends once a month once the school year starts

max, Wednesday, 3 August 2011 16:03 (thirteen years ago) link
