What about the "In Every (x) Ever" threads? Those seem almost impossible to search, though.

And the one where people describe memories of their life from when they were 11 yrs. old or so...I can't find that one, either.

I'm unsure regarding Jagga's ambiguous rules and subequent attempts at clarifying 'em whether something has to be seconded to be part of the final poll...but at any rate, I second "So Not Gonna Happen".

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 00:14 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah one of my noms (the "sing along to Da Funk") hasnt been 2nded :(

Trayce, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 00:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I know I started it, but I'm not willing to overlook the tremendous contributions of teh ILX community to WDYLL when machines are trying to kill you: favorite product warning labels thread out of humility.

Yes, those are great! I would second a collective vote for them if that's the best we can do - but my favorites are the one about childrens' action-adventure cartoons (I think it's just called Stock Plots For Action-Adventure Cartoons), old movies generally, and suburban dens from the 80s.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:32 (sixteen years ago) link

Nah, the best of those is the coffee house one. Which I have searched for, without avail!

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:34 (sixteen years ago) link

Even just searching for threads with title "Every" doesn't work - is this for some reason a blacklisted word?

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:43 (sixteen years ago) link

The stopword list on the search engine is ridiculously long and full of really not all that common words, it is frustrating.

Trayce, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Not nomming as such, but using Google I found some for the benefit of others:

in every cop show ever
top100- stock plot devices for children's action/adventure cartoons
IN EVERY POXY FULE EVER:

NO luck on old movies or coffee shops! WTF!

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 02:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Argh! Why I am I getting stupid "The requested resource (/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet%3Fboardid%3D40%26threadid%3D50907) is not available." msg's when I try to clink on the links that Doctor Casino posted?!

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:01 (sixteen years ago) link

me toooooo :(

Abbott, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:02 (sixteen years ago) link

Anyhow, thanks for your detective work Doctor. I think I've only managed previously to pull up the "In every POXY FULE..." one before using the google search.

Trayce is right, I think that both "every" and "ever" are excluded from the search engine.

Man, I totally wanna read the coffeehouse one now. I remember the old movies one being esp. brilliant. (and '80's suburban dens was no slouch, either)

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:05 (sixteen years ago) link

In every coffeeshop ever

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:13 (sixteen years ago) link

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I love those ones. Also (forgive me):

How can you tell you're in an Australian soap opera?

moley, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Let's see if this works now:

top 100 stock plot devices for children's action/adventure cartoons

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:55 (sixteen years ago) link

success!

ok...

in every cop show ever

in every poxy fule ever

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 03:57 (sixteen years ago) link

I am so sad I missed the Paul Rudd threads. love!

horseshoe, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:04 (sixteen years ago) link

I remember when he was on the Daily Show (for like the 465th time) discussing Gen Y Cops!

horseshoe, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, don't know what went wrong with my links but THANK YOU THANK YOU to dell - how the hell did you find them? I swear to god "old movie" got me nowhere.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:15 (sixteen years ago) link

shucks, it's all in a day's work.

But seriously, prayer, my brother, prayer.

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah the Aussie soap thread was great :D

Feel Like Making Lunch

The Reverend, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I dunno why the links you posted didn't work. Maybe the ILX Central Control Unit just happened to burp at that moment or something.

I found the "in every old movie ever" one by putting "movie" into the plain ol' ILX search engine, and then flipping through a dozen or so pages of results. I have fast eyeballs or something. It's one of my few talents in life.

I'm just glad that you and Ned were able to bring to mind the specific subjects of those threads. All I could recall was that the "in every X ever" ones were pretty great in general...which doesn't help search-wise!

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 04:35 (sixteen years ago) link

Shucks. Let's hear it for ILX teamwork!

Having now read it, I second "In every coffee shop." ILXors write what they know. It's also one of the elite threads to sustain a multi-post revive as a result of THIS thread.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 05:37 (sixteen years ago) link

in every coffeeshop seconded

I'll nominate this too:

In every Soviet bloc...

Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 07:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, yeah, I too would like this to be an old-fashioned ILX poll, where people vote and provide blurbs via e-mail, and the winners are revealed one at a time. That makes it much more exciting.

Tuomas, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 07:02 (sixteen years ago) link

oh that would be graet!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 08:06 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah but would never finish.

blueski, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh wait, the first one I wanted to make a comment that I don't think it should be there re. it being a personal attack thread.

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:39 (sixteen years ago) link

So I am NOT seconding BAN LOUIS JAGGER

kv_nol, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:39 (sixteen years ago) link

I am!

wow!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:41 (sixteen years ago) link

More srsly..

There seems to be a lot missing.

I haven't actually seconded anything.

I'd second "there's a guy on the roof" for a kickov.

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 10:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Where the hell is Jaggah? How dare his "real life" concerns impede the progress of this poll! Furthermore, I'm still confused as to whether threads need to actually be seconded in order to count in the final running. Cheers kv, though, that's some good compiling work you've done. Fook, I'll pitch in if need be. Though, I do agree that it should be an old-style poll, with a proper suspenseful countdown an' all.

dell, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:13 (sixteen years ago) link

And a Barry Normal style precis of content, style and direction of thread.

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 11:15 (sixteen years ago) link

hai!

Though, I do agree that it should be an old-style poll, with a proper suspenseful countdown an' all

We could always do it again, like you and a few others have suggested. For now, though, it's gonna be a straight shoot-out.
