I feel like these kinda disasters are weirdly exciting to people in the modern sorta boring world cause they're so unpredictable and out of the blue and you actually see them w/ your own eyes

whereras like 100 years ago, nobody would be like "woo hurricane!!"

Exactly what I'm thinking ENBB. Best time based on predictions here is Saturday early morning daybreak before winds get too heavy, mostly overhead 7 to 8 footers with occasional even larger sets. Sunday will be too windy and choppy to surf, but wow, triple-overheaders (15 ft.) on the mid-atlantic east coast, likely to be too choppy to surf. Even if it wasn't - I'm fearless, but I'm not insane; and this is way beyond my capabilities.

They're shutting down highways and evacuating beachfronts everywhere though - may not be possible to even get there.

damn idk if it was b/c of the hurricane or w/e but i was standing in front of the open slider door earlier and the rain was coming in through the screen. i don't know what it's like out there now though

I bought a shit-ton of bottled water, but I'm going to go out and buy more. I'm having trouble thinking of good, shelf-stable vegetarian food that won't require cooking. So far all I've got are "fruit" and "nuts". I don't know - maybe fucking Clif Bars or something? Fuck.

They sent an email around at my work yesterday with the weather emergency line as a reminder. I'm really hoping for at least Monday off out of this.

If they shut down NYC transpo, my Saturday gig will be cancelled regardless of actual weather on Saturday, because none of us will be able to get home from wherever we're dropped off.

Might get a free Saturday out of this as well!

my mom has fill her tub before hurricanes and blizzards and the like. I only think this is necessary if your water is drawn from a well by electric pump, tho.

Yeah the gravity flush is a thing that you need when you have a well. I'm not sure about city water pressure, if it maintains when the power is out. But I think it does.

I think that if there is flooding, finding some water with which to flush the shitter with is not going to be one of the greatest challenges.

I went shopping this morning, woman leaving right in front of me had a cart with 3 mega-jugs of water.

how can water be dangerous if you need it to live?! WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!

Two things I didn't think about that I will actually do! to prepare.

1. Get a lot of cash from the bank before I go home today. (Well, "a lot" like, relative to what I usually carry, which is less than twenty bucks.

2. Freeze giant blocks of tap water in my freezer in my biggest tupperware/mixing bowls, to be put in the fridge to keep temp down if power goes out.

Guys, it's perfectly safe to drink urine.
