Speaking of which, it looks like a position is opening up here again. My boss asked me to remind her who I knew that had applied before, although she emphasized that applicants with copy-editing experience would be given stronger consideration than those without. (I don't remember what your resumes are like, Nick and deej.) If any of you unemployed types have copy-editing experience, e-mail me and I can give you details.

i do copyediting here at my job. its not like ... rigorous tho. but i'm definitely interested in the uh 'craft,' and ultimately getting into publishing? but my current job is definitely all over the place and not copyediting specific

The hot dog is kosher.
― Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:54 (sixteen years ago) link
So kosher
― Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:55 (sixteen years ago) link
Deej, that just means you have to really play up your copy editing experience in your resume.
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:56 (sixteen years ago) link
Jordan, you reminded me of Jesse just now.
Oh yeah, happy sukkous, Jordan!
― Laurel, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:57 (sixteen years ago) link
PC mean...something. Private Counsel? It's what a single-lawyer practice has at the end of the name.
― Jesse, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:57 (sixteen years ago) link
Why he reminded you of me?
― Jesse, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:58 (sixteen years ago) link
Because he just felt up a Lutheran minister.
― Jenny, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh, that's right, I forgot it was an Occasion tonight. Thanks.
― Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link
Wait. I am wrong.
― Jesse, Friday, 28 September 2007 21:59 (sixteen years ago) link
PC is a professional corporation. It's more or less like a corporation but with special rules concerning who can own it and addressing liability issues a little differently. It's basically a corporation for attorneys or for other professionals who may need similar rules. An LLP is a limited liablity partnership. It's like a partnership but with a liability shield limiting personal liability. There is also a PLLP which is an LLP for professionals.
― Jesse, Friday, 28 September 2007 22:00 (sixteen years ago) link
So what is a single-attorney's business. I forget.
John, I was going for something more like this:

I get a lot of idiots on the phone. They call and they express idiocy, then I say "no" and then they talk some more and then I say "uh...no" and then they still don't get it and I get so ANGRY and it's worst when I'm hungry and hung over.
― Jesse, Friday, 28 September 2007 22:01 (sixteen years ago) link
You should be more polite, just ask them to please stop expressing idiocy.
― Jordan, Friday, 28 September 2007 22:02 (sixteen years ago) link
They call and say "I was brutalized by a cop, and it hurt, and I am mad, and I wanna sue, and can you help me?"
I say "Is this an employment matter?"
"No. I was I was brutalized by a cop, and it hurt, and I am mad, and I wanna sue, and can you help me?"
"Our area of practice is employment and some divorce and family matters."
"Oh. Well this is not an employment matter. I was brutalized by a cop, and it hurt, and I am mad, and I wanna sue, and can you help me?"
"No, and furthermore I have an insight into the cop's state of mind when he beat you."

Free coffee at Alliance, Letizia's and other coffee shops today: http://chicagoist.com/2007/09/28/new_tv_season_f.php

dammit, figures. i think i food poisoned myself this morning with a breakfast burrito. and by breakfast burrito i mean a regular burrito that i made for breakfast. anyway, i spent a good 6 hours puking and shitting (at times simultaneously) today, the only relief i got was when i passed out while dry heaving. that 2 hour nap saved me.
now i'm gonna go pay three dollars for a bottle of gatorade at that price gouging moonlight mini mart on division across from leitiza's.
― chicago kevin, Friday, 28 September 2007 22:47 (sixteen years ago) link
We got to Letizia's at 4:30 and they said no more free coffee, despite it being advertised as running until 5. Apparently it was based on a certain number of coffees, not a time limit.
― n/a, Friday, 28 September 2007 22:58 (sixteen years ago) link
i used to love going to Letizia's for weekend ice coffee, seriously cute women working there. and then this one really stern, really unfriendly (yet still cute) woman that kind of made me wish i had got coffee another day.

I have lived near the House of Wah Sun on Lincoln and Montrose for the better part of ten years and have never set foot in it. It has been decided that tonight is the night to do so. Am I making a huge mistake? Or, will I be basking in the glory of complicated tropical drinks?

I've found Belmont is the best bus to take westward to the blue line. Addison sucks, too residential and too many stop signs. I haven't tried Fullerton, but Belmont is closer to you anyway.
― Jeff, Friday, 28 September 2007 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link
x80, the irving park express might be your best bet. really whatever bus is closest to you is probably the best bet.
― chicago kevin, Friday, 28 September 2007 23:47 (sixteen years ago) link
so you have two bests there which you might think would be impossible by definition but there you go.

Fuck a Critical Mass. No, really. I'm all for people riding bikes instead of driving cars and very much for people protesting, but that was some crazy shit. I pulled off the Edens at the Division exit at 7:02. The exit finally opened back up to let traffic through at 8:05. Over an hour stuck on the fucking exit ramp is some bullshit.
― jon /via/ chi 2.0, Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:48 (sixteen years ago) link
ok, let's go guerilla next month where pedestrians reclaim the streets from the bicycles. we'll run in a giant circle around them like some massive game of duck duck goose.
― chicago kevin, Saturday, 29 September 2007 02:52 (sixteen years ago) link
I mean, I really do agree with what they are trying to get across... really. It just sucks that it got so out of control this year.

what's up with all the helicopters? someone on another website thinks it's something about the cubs, but that seems weird... jenny/jeff/other neighbors i don't know about?
― colette, Saturday, 29 September 2007 03:39 (sixteen years ago) link
they are definitely showing aerial views of cubs fans on comcast sports net. i dont think they're high enough to be from a helicopter though
― stingy, Saturday, 29 September 2007 03:40 (sixteen years ago) link
i guess we're a house divided now! toby roots for the red sox...
yeah, we've had helicopters for a while tonight. in london they always seemed to be police helicopters, so it didn't cross my mind that it could be the news.
― colette, Saturday, 29 September 2007 03:49 (sixteen years ago) link
i got stuck for an hour on north ave. as someone who had planned to do the critical mass tonight, it was still pretty crazy. the only people who annoyed me, though, were the ones who came racing down the sidewalk yelling for us to get out of the way. i'm ON THE SIDEWALK I AM NOT USING GAS
― sisut, Saturday, 29 September 2007 04:07 (sixteen years ago) link
I'm just used to noise around here. Helicopters, sirens, screaming in the parking lot of Jewel, it all sounds the same to me now.

(1) i texted nick but he didn't get back to me ;_; (2) do i go to danny's now y/n

sorry about critical mass, guys :-/

I got no text message from you! Did you send it to my home phone no.? I'll text you so you have my cell no.
Probably wouldn't have been able to do anything anyways, we had late FF practice. My new guitar sounds great, way better than my old one.
― n/a, Saturday, 29 September 2007 05:50 (sixteen years ago) link
Haha--So the Critical Mass action against fossil fuel-based transport results in thousands of gallons of petroleum products being used in cars getting 0 mpg as they sit and wait for anti-pedestrian cyclists.
― Jesse, Saturday, 29 September 2007 05:51 (sixteen years ago) link
Argh, yes. The inefficiency of a bad system. It's only once a month, though, is the thing.

This has truly, truly been a full and rewarding day. I have a http://images.craigslist.org/01021001030201040120070925c8f25baf4d97415052005df7.jpg which I rode home from the South Loop. I found some really incredible spots along the lakefront where I want to do some nighttime photography.
While meandering through the service road behind the golf course by Belmont harbor I encountered what I thought was a dog. It was in fact one of many http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:uZyuEY8KcZLoFM:http://images.usatoday.com/tech/_photos/2006/08/23/raccoons.jpg that were hanging around by the parking lot. I thought they were really cool and I approached them and was around 6 feet or less from a group of three when a BUNCH more started gathering. Their disposition quickly went from *cuet* to http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2007/03/01/01_raccoon_lgl.jpg.
I don't know if it was because they were in a pack, but they reacted poorly to my advancing on them and they began to GRRRRROWWWWL and come at me. I screamed and pedaled away.
