I still haven't seen that yet (I forgot it was on) but it was a BAFTA winner, not an Oscar winner.
But my choice would be something by Chuck Jones or Laurel & Hardy. You want to tell me they don't count, you have some arguing to do.
Mr Jones and L&H are fine! Favourite Chuck Jones short - I forget the name of it but this big bulldog was trying to protect and raise this tiny orphan kitten on his own. Sounds a bit cloying but was actually immensely funny.

I guess this thread contains a valuable lesson for the German film industry : Less Tykweresque "magic realism" - more impromptu surgery.

There was a really brilliant one made by students at the Florida State film school last year called Fields of Mudan about children who think they're seeking a better life in America but end up unwittingly as prostitutes. It was very depressing but amazing.
Has anyone seen that new one with Melanie Lynskey in it called something like The Nearly Unadventurous Life of Zoe Caulwaulder? Is it any good? And what is it with her ending up in lesbian roles anyway? She's going to be New Zealand's new Lucy Lawless, I swear...
