Haha, weird, I've never seen those before. It reminds me of this

Did you post before? Do you live in Chicago? Will you be our friend?

I really wish there were one with just a sousaphone bell coming straight up out of someone's neck. But a sousaphone is not so much a symphony orchestra instrument.

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 17:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I suppose the french horn one is kind of like that, but I mean just the bell.

I've been posting for a few months, but at a rather low frequency. The last Chicago (I do live here) thread I posted in, I was bitching about being 19 and not being able to go to 21+ shows.

Ivan, Monday, 26 February 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, 19.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 17:57 (seventeen years ago) link

OH okay. Hello!

Is your real name Ivan? I've always liked that name a lot.

Jenny, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:02 (seventeen years ago) link

It is.

Ivan, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I am listening to a song called "Nineteen" right now. It's by this band Harlem Shakes that my friend N8 told me about, and their debut EP is pretty damn good. Sort of complex pop, I'm sure there's a lot of references to make but I don't feel like it.

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Although they were on tour with Deerhoof, so there you go.

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:05 (seventeen years ago) link

At first I read N8 as "innate."

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:06 (seventeen years ago) link

I am a dumb-dumb and left my headphones at home. I have another pair here, but they have a tag that says "THE WIRE ON THESE HEADPHONES IS TOXIC, WASH YOUR HANDS AFTER USING" that frankly makes me not want to touch them at all. Shame, I was going to see if there were any Patrick Wolf mp3s floating around, since he seems like someone I'd like (although I seem to remember hearing an album from a couple years ago that didn't strike me at all).

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, I'm trying to plan my week a little bit. Do any of you feel like doing the trivia thing again? Just curious.

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:09 (seventeen years ago) link

That's an odd note to find on a pair of headphones.

I read N8 as "innate," too. So much so that it didn't even occur to me that I might be wrong until Nick's post.

doesn't this seem a little... odd?

Maaaybe. Although I was talking to Jeremy, the alpha-male of What's That On Your Forehead? (the winning team last week), and he said that he does trivia at the Schoolyard Tavern at Southport and School every Tuesday. He says the trivia there is harder and/or more complex (sample question: Of these 10 monarchs, name a year within their reign.) -- but I'm curious enough that I'd like to try it out sometime.

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan are you referring to Galway Arms trivia? R U hooked on trivia?

Jenny, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:13 (seventeen years ago) link

who makes poisonous headphones? and wherefore would they do such a dastardly thing?

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:13 (seventeen years ago) link

OK, here's what it actually says (I picked it up with a napkin so I could read it):

"California Proposition 65"
The coated electrical wire of this product contains a substance known to the state of California to be a carcinogen or reproductive toxicant.

Wash Hands After Handling

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:15 (seventeen years ago) link

OH those silly Californians! Just don't chew on it. You'll be fine.

Jenny, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

If you DO chew on it, wash mouth after chewing.

Jenny, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

phtalates

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, Galway Arms, I R not quite hooked, but if other people are up for it I'll gladly go.

I'd be interested in checking out the other game, too, but I can't this week (Red Wings v. Blackhawks tomorrow, if anyone's interested).

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

oops, I meant phthalates

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:16 (seventeen years ago) link

I feel light-headed.

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:17 (seventeen years ago) link

hypochondriacs shout NOT have poisonous headphones.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:17 (seventeen years ago) link

I want to do trivia somewhere near my house.

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:18 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh I completely forgot until now: how long has there been a second Sultan's Market? It's across the street from Galway Arms and north about 2 blocks. I noticed it on my way home last week. Anyone been there?

dan m, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

phthalates

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh, Schoolyard is apparently a "Marquette bar" -- was Julia aware of this?

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:22 (seventeen years ago) link

Phthalates are also frequently used in nail polish, fishing lures, adhesives, caulk, paint pigments, and sex toys made of so-called "jelly rubber." Some vendors of jelly rubber sex toys advise covering them in condoms when used internally, due to the possible health risks. The Dutch office of Greenpeace UK sought to encourage the European Union to ban sex toys that contained phthalates.

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

Phthalates are controversial because high doses of many phthalates have shown hormonal activity in rodent studies. Studies on rodents involving large amounts of phthalates have shown damage to the liver, the kidneys, the lungs and the developing testes.

n/a, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:23 (seventeen years ago) link

There is also trivia at Ginger's Ale House on Thursdays.

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Also the Globe Pub (a couple doors down from Silvie's) on Tuesday.

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:30 (seventeen years ago) link

I should wear headphones more here, but I do kind of enjoy that clockwork response when I listen to Xiu Xiu. "What on Earth are you listening to?" It never fails.

kenan, Monday, 26 February 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I've been to the Globe once. It was for a futbol match and it was infuckingsane.

KitCat, Monday, 26 February 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

I HAVE NO GIRL SCOUT COOKIES. THIS IS A PROBLEM.

I have home-made mac, though, and it's pretty darn good.
