The back camera is more-or-less webcam grade and the front camera is even worse. Even if it had a decent camera, it's a very bad shape and size for taking photos.

The portability of the ipad is sort of astounding. You can just slip it in whatever pack you already take around with you. It's not so heavy that you'd really notice it being in there.

Ah, shit.

I've been on the fence about whether to get the iPhone for the complete portability (even without getting phone service with it) or the iPad. Taking photos on the fly is good for my work, but so is being able to access media apps like New Yorker...

I ended up not using my ipad as much as I thought I would, ended up giving it to my parents.

New Yorker app is indeed great, but it's an expensive subscription if you don't already have an ipad.

btw migration assistant was a good idea, right? like, i'm not shooting myself in the foot by not starting from scratch? cuz i'm not sure how much of what's on my computer will play nicely with Lion, and I'd hate to have a janky machine right off the bat

Migration assistant is superb. This machine is basically the direct descendant of my G4 which started life on OS 9, and apart from some unix settings they fucked up 10.2->10.3 all has been well.

this is precisely what i'm worried about. i've spoken with apple, and rebooted, and it looks like nothing even got moved over?

is there an easy way to check this?

also dude basically told me that doing it all manually would be the best bet

personally i start from scratch each new machine, copying stuff over manually. i feel like my chi is stronger that way.

If you've got a backup of your old stuff you can safely shit up anything.

gbx: Migration assistant is really good for the Mac stuff. It mostly ignores any unix stuff, you have to move that yourself.

Also took my 4S back to the Mac store and the 'genius' couldnt even run diagnostics on it so I got a brand new one. Yay!
