Cold. Miserable out. I decided to go have my new fave sandwich (mentioned above) for lunch. It is a sad, sad day. They replaced the paneer cheese with melted (what tasted like) Kraft singles (blerrgh) and added lots of sliced beets in lieu of peppers this time 'round. Nothing good lasts forever.

Started getting sandwiches at the cafeteria salad bar. Here's what it's been lately:

american cheese (or provolone if i'm lucky)

Accompanied by a can of CocaCola and Fritos. There are kinda limited options at the salad bar (on very unlucky days there is no hmmus), but inspired by
this thread, I'm going to try to change it up a little tomorrow.

It means a bit of work when I make my packed lunch up of a morning, but lately I've been rocking:

one fat, juicy, crunchy cornichon, sliced lengthways

not a sandwich, but today i had this vegan/gluten-free quiche with six layers of vegetables in between a buckwheat crust, held together with tofu, and topped with an artichoke. expensive but really really good -- from le pain quotidien.

i like a complicated sandwich but for the moment i'm liking wheat bread, cheddar cheese, & cranberry sauce. (just a bit obsessed with cranberries this week.)

Whole Foods is doing a nice cheddar with cranberries in it. Not overly sweet unlike some of the softer cheeses you get with berries/apricots in.

I've always been partial to a mild chicken tikka with crunchy lettuce. Am I likely to find this in San Francisco?

panini for lunch today with roast beef, truffle cheese, arugula, served with spicy pickle chips. i totally cannot afford to eat like this but when i'm in a funk i go nuts and lose all track of my ability to balance a checkbook.

I don't make sandwiches for myself very often, but I do go to Atlanta Bread Company once or twice a month, and have figured out my perfect sandwich through much trial & error:

Multigrain bread, thick slice
Romaine
Provolone cheese, thin slice
Turkey
2 small strips of bacon, very crispy
Avocado
Red onions
Salt & pepper
Another thick slice multigrain

Basic, but delicious. I may have to start experimenting with tomatoes, though, for some reason they never really clicked with me until this year.

excellent sandwich. i would leave off the avocado (personal taste... i don't like the texture), but otherwise you're speaking my language.

also i'd go for pickled red onion (like they have at taquerias) instead of straight-up raw.

BREAD (buttered on the outside)

three potato, cheese, and bacon perogies (fried in advance)
half an onion (diced, caramelized in advance)

sliced cheddar cheese
BREAD (buttered on the outside)

After assembly it's back in the frying pan until the bread is a greasy brown and the cheese is melted inside the sandwich.

I fixed mine by putting the sriracha on top of the jalapenos.
