Mountain Goats! Awesome performance. Executed with great wit and feeling.

Performed Get Lonely in it's entirety, in order, with a brief, impropmtu performance of Barracuda (Inspired by his description of a childhood fantasy of watching Heart perform their entire album in order). Plus tons of awesome oldies.

Dan, U R awesome. Thanks again.

OK, Naughty Boy is pretty funny.

So you made it? Yay!

(Barracuda... Heart... oh my.)

MG doing "Barracuda"? I couldn't help but laugh!
Me doing "Barracuda"? Well, a nation turns its back and GAGS...

The bassist started doing the riff from Barracuda while Darnielle was explaining his playlist via an exposition on Heart, and holmes was like, "Oh, I can sing that song." We cheered; etc. It was a little rocky. Hilarious, oh yes.

Me doing "Barracuda"? The bartender cuts me off. I fall asleep behind the dumpster. So cold.

Great show!

Mountain Goats were great. I wasn't familiar with the new album, which they did in sequence....would have liked to hear a few more "hits", but overall it was awesome, J0hn is a great performer.

Okay, I realize you are likely talking about another John, I just want you all to recognize that there are about 20 possible jokes that could be made here.

Curious.

Fluffy Bear is a man. Do not shoot him. (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Friday, 15 September 2006 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

You've got a couple of options:

1. Get subgenius to play it for you (I'm sure he has the first Dizzee album).
2. Check yr email in a few mins.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Friday, 15 September 2006 19:46 (seventeen years ago) link

iTunes has a 30 second clip... although if I'm at the right spot, it is spelled "What U On?"

This is all reminding me that Aust1n wants the 80 gb iPod for Xmas. Is this what I am going to do this year? Hmmmm. (Then he will need new music to go with it...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 15 September 2006 19:47 (seventeen years ago) link

iTunes has it spelled incorrectly.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Friday, 15 September 2006 19:50 (seventeen years ago) link

hey guys, should I go see the Melvins on Sunday? Anyone?

Those iTunes bastards are cruel. (Or possibly just bad typists.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 15 September 2006 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

YES to Melvins show because I don't go to shows anymore and someone has to go have fun.

iTunes bastards = cruel, this is a given.

gbx, YES!

I think Dan has a dark view of humanity. (This is why I like him.)

I'm voting yes to the Melvins show as well, gbx, because even though I have no idea who they are, you need to get out and have fun. Now all the married people on the thread are trying to push you out the door. Go have fun for us or pay the bitter price.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 15 September 2006 20:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan, thanks. I will listen to this as soon as I get home.

I suggest a more subtle approach, but then again, you do seem to be in the Land that Time Forgot, so perhaps my advice is not appropriate.

I do think wearing clothing, at least at first, is a good tip for all eras, though.

I refuse to find a girlfriend until spring.
no offence to females pseudo-present, but I'm so done with american women.

Good ones are few and far between.
It's cultural clash.
Japanese culture has always fit my mindset better.
Though I'll probably be less than traditional in my expectations of home life.
Only thing close to that will be my inability to clean efficiently. I have virtually no abilty to like...put stuff away well.
I get the order all fucked up and it takes forever and the results are often incomplete without me knowing it.

So, I'll just have to work my ass off to make up for it.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Saturday, 16 September 2006 02:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Melvins going to Clear CHannel or not?
If not, I be there.
Irregardless(sadly) Alex will be there. he's not represented here save by proxy.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Saturday, 16 September 2006 02:43 (seventeen years ago) link

American women will improve by spring time? (Or you plan to go to Japan then?)

As the only female pseudo-present, I'm not at all offended, plus I'll have you know that I'm a terrible housekeeper, for all you know I am worse than you are. (The trouble is that we have way too much stuff.)

I hope you don't mind me saying that I think that the vast majority of American men suck. (Not anyone on this thread, I mean the bland, boring ones.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 16 September 2006 02:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Taking first trip to japan in spring.

Oh god yeah.

Even interesting ones are not great relationship fodder for the most part.

(hell, i'm catch. i lose at video games, suck at instruments, and have two [currently-]pseudo-careers. i do these things alot, but not enough to miss Law and Order three times a day...)

http://anon.doubleclick.edgesuite.net/anon.doubleclick/RJReynolds/326731/New/No9.jpg
Direct quote from the email I just recieved:
"Concept Statement:

A light and smooth smoke for the ladies (and guys who don’t give a damn). Camel No.9 is a potential new cigarette from Camel. It will be available in two regular-size box styles, non-menthol and menthol, and sold in the stores where you buy your cigarettes today. "

Once again, WHY is Camel talking out both sides of it's mouth?
"We're old-fashioned, 1940s hipster private-eye coolsville, as long as you like to suck on something round, fat and delicious."
John, remember those TEA Smokes that didn't taste like anything but tea flavoring?
They say that these sweet smokes are marketing to teenagers.
Bullshit. Teenagers smoke marlboro REDS. Then they turn 18, switch to lights, then go to what's on sale until they get old enough to stick to habits with their addictions.
Sweet smokes are marketed towards flamobyant humans. From Femal Cheerleaders to.....male female cheerleaders.
However, Hat Sherman Fantasias(multi-colored) are just gross tasting... Dry bitter cigarette parody.

The low-end Nat Shermans(New York Cut) at least follow though on the image set by their Buy one get one etc deals:
"An offer you can't refuse.
NEW YORK CUT

Nat Sherman"
And then you smoke one, and it beats your ass like fat italian.

GZeus, I'm sure I told you about the all-filter cigarettes that were designed (I guess) to help people quit that a bunch of us non-smokers spent way too much time playing with one night. (Final verdict: horribly soggy! Also, they were minty. Funny, but we didn't think they'd help much.)

Also, I really liked this statement from you: Even interesting ones are not great relationship fodder for the most part. I liked it so much that I'm going to tell you a small secret. My super-popular sister went on tons of dates (like me, she found it hard to reject someone out of hand). One night, as I was complaining about who I was going out with, she taught me the technique she had developed for getting out of a car without being kissed good night. It worked pretty well.

All My Children clip - so silly. I notice that Rick Springfield went back to General Hospital after 20-odd years. He looked a lot better in the early 80s.

GZeus, your video is very amusing. I love the detail about the orange flavor on the condom. In college I was part of the first group of people to make condoms available at St. Olaf and we got a ton of condoms that were mint-flavored. Minty latex. I still laugh at that.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 16 September 2006 21:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Rahb plays Santa, I'm the captive child.

He wrote and directed that (half of which without portions of the cast's knowledge, myself included) while going through his first descent into a schizophrenic episode.

The cut that was actually shown in front of the class was MUCH more graphic.
Sex scene was longer, more dialogue relating to his love of little boys.
One line that was cut explains the line "I'm gonna go get myself a female hooker."

The sequel is years on the writing process, based around Santa paying homeless people and drug addicts to get his diseases.
