She was on Jimmy Fallon last week, and the Roots played a Minnie Riperton song to introduce her (forget which one), and she seemed really touched by it.

According to the liner notes from Riperton's Petals compilation CD, the melody to "Lovin' You" was created as a distraction for Maya when she was a baby, so that Riperton and Richard Rudolph could spend time together.[2] Near the end of the unedited "Lovin' You", Riperton sings "Maya, Maya, Maya"; in concert, near her death, she changed this to "Maya, Maya, Ringo, Maya." Ringo was her nickname for her son, Marc.

I didn't know the Ringo part!

weird to think that taran killam is still a featured player... dude is in like every sketch

Yeah, I'm sayin' about him what I was sayin' during Bobby Moynihan's last year as a featured player: if Lorne doesn't promote him next season, he's straight outta his mind.

Things the 2012/13 cast needs:

+1 black woman
+1 nerdy fella
-1 andy samberg (and possibly -1 fred armisen)

wait, the cast already has Thompson, Armisen, Moynihan, Samberg, Killam and Hader and you think the thing they're missing is "someone nerdy"?

not to be a killjoy but this has happened every time i've seen rudolph on a talk show! granted that's like uh twice

Point taken. I just don't feel like they've had a Lovitz/Kazurinsky type in a while (Armisen comes the closest, but I'm just ready to see someone else doing what he does).

Maya Angelou skit was hilare, even though David Alan Grier did the better Maya Angelou impresh on SNL.

And yeah, Pharoah's definitely been on more since Brittain left.

it took me years to tell all the white dudes of this era apart! now they all seem very distinct, sure.

I can understand/sympathize with the "heavy dude playing non-heavy celebs, why because he is black" irritation but Kenan's Cornel West was so fucking lol

i always feel bad for pharoah, he is truly uncanny as an impressionist but they only give him that one thing to do, and only once every six weeks.

denzel washington as a customer service rep is all time tho

I just love that the show featured impersonations of both Cornel West and Geoffrey Canada.

Still would like to know what happened there, it seems super-sketchy for someone to leave or be let go in the middle of the season like that.

Molly Shannon and Dana Carvey both left midseason, but they were in a position to do that I guess.

no one in rehearsal was like "hey kristen... you're using the same exact voice as your character from the mystery word sketch"

Its pretty obvious that Wiig just gets to do whatever she wants at this point. Like during Rudolph's monologue, there was absolutely no reason she should have been hoisted up on the shoulders of the dancers. Like, can't Rudolph just have her moment without Wiig shoehorning her way in?

She is the cast member I'm most ready to get rid of.

think everyone knows if kristen isn't allowed to repeat some of her stuff the show would be about 20 minutes long each week.

I'm pretty sure I read that Brittain got an offer to do something else. Given that he and Pharaoh were probably the featured players most likely to get cut next year, he might've just figured it was a safe gamble? I'm just hypothesizing here, but I know people who know him, so maybe I'll get the real scoop sometime?
