i haven't seen the past few episodes... did they start putting pharoah in more skits since the restart of this season or was it just this episode?

"No, Brother West. It was an act of whimsy."
I died.

A few more as of late. xp
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:31 (twelve years ago) link
as much as i love kenan, it's really weird when they have him play black people that are not in the least bit overweight
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:32 (twelve years ago) link
I think when Brittain bailed/got canned, they had to use Pharoah more

She was on Jimmy Fallon last week, and the Roots played a Minnie Riperton song to introduce her (forget which one), and she seemed really touched by it.

not to be a killjoy but this has happened every time i've seen rudolph on a talk show! granted that's like uh twice
xps omg i'd forgotten about that maya angelou bit
― Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:33 (twelve years ago) link
is it okay that i'm slightly irked by them dressing pharoah as jay-z circa 2003
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:34 (twelve years ago) link
wait, the cast already has Thompson, Armisen, Moynihan, Samberg, Killam and Hader and you think the thing they're missing is "someone nerdy"?
Point taken. I just don't feel like they've had a Lovitz/Kazurinsky type in a while (Armisen comes the closest, but I'm just ready to see someone else doing what he does).
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:34 (twelve years ago) link
Maya Angelou skit was hilare, even though David Alan Grier did the better Maya Angelou impresh on SNL.
And yeah, Pharoah's definitely been on more since Brittain left.
― Ascot Fitzgerald (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:34 (twelve years ago) link
it took me years to tell all the white dudes of this era apart! now they all seem very distinct, sure.
― Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:36 (twelve years ago) link
I can understand/sympathize with the "heavy dude playing non-heavy celebs, why because he is black" irritation but Kenan's Cornel West was so fucking lol
― (thinks and smiles) (DJP), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:36 (twelve years ago) link
i always feel bad for pharoah, he is truly uncanny as an impressionist but they only give him that one thing to do, and only once every six weeks.
denzel washington as a customer service rep is all time tho
― Critique of Pure Moods (goole), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:38 (twelve years ago) link
I just love that the show featured impersonations of both Cornel West and Geoffrey Canada.
― Ascot Fitzgerald (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:38 (twelve years ago) link
omg I forgot about Geoffrey Canada

okay i'm going to watch this episode since EVERYONE is talking about how funny it is
though a lot of these same people think justin timberlake is funny so i am extremely skeptical

He is funny on SNL!

he was good in this episode
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:47 (twelve years ago) link
But what about the sketch where he played a stripper? Or the one where he played an exotic dancer? Or the one where he danced all sexy? Or the one where he displayed no range and muttered monotonously while oiling his delts?

― Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:50 (twelve years ago) link
hahaha so in order to get bill o reilly on what up with that they had to promise him that he'd get to sit next to kate upton right?
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:52 (twelve years ago) link
Or just let him plug his new book.

Still would like to know what happened there, it seems super-sketchy for someone to leave or be let go in the middle of the season like that.
― Nicole, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 21:57 (twelve years ago) link
Molly Shannon and Dana Carvey both left midseason, but they were in a position to do that I guess.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:02 (twelve years ago) link
no one in rehearsal was like "hey kristen... you're using the same exact voice as your character from the mystery word sketch"
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:02 (twelve years ago) link
Its pretty obvious that Wiig just gets to do whatever she wants at this point. Like during Rudolph's monologue, there was absolutely no reason she should have been hoisted up on the shoulders of the dancers. Like, can't Rudolph just have her moment without Wiig shoehorning her way in?
She is the cast member I'm most ready to get rid of.
― Gonjasufjanstephen O'Malley (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:04 (twelve years ago) link
think everyone knows if kristen isn't allowed to repeat some of her stuff the show would be about 20 minutes long each week.
― mizzell, Tuesday, 21 February 2012 22:05 (twelve years ago) link
I'm pretty sure I read that Brittain got an offer to do something else. Given that he and Pharaoh were probably the featured players most likely to get cut next year, he might've just figured it was a safe gamble? I'm just hypothesizing here, but I know people who know him, so maybe I'll get the real scoop sometime?

don't want to be that guy but if i didn't laugh during the jeremy lin sketch, bronx beat, maya angelou pranks, or the parade of 15-second impressions that was the beyonce baby sketch, am i not going to laugh during any of this? sorry, i guess i am that guy. there are some things here that are funny in an abstract way (lin voice-over, "act of whimsy,") but nothing that tempts to laugh except for armisen's prince face which is not even a joke. (and his funny faces on portlandia are much funnier)
― Guayaquil (eephus!), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 23:42 (twelve years ago) link
No, you are not going to laugh during any of this.

well you basically watched the entire episode
― illuminati girl (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 23:50 (twelve years ago) link
Tbh, I didn't really laugh during Jeremy Lin or Bronx Beat, but I thought they were nicely done.
― Ascot Fitzgerald (jaymc), Tuesday, 21 February 2012 23:52 (twelve years ago) link
can we get more reports on when people didn't laugh
― bnw, Wednesday, 22 February 2012 00:26 (twelve years ago) link
I don't usually laugh during the musical segments, although there are exceptions.
