I should wear my ugly golf shorts. It seems fitting.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 10:32 (sixteen years ago) link

we should all wear ugly golf shorts.

Thanks for thinking of me. My correct email is without the bit about having spam for tea in it, by the way!

I fly out to Seattle on Friday, I'm really looking forward to it!

Zora, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 17:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Zora I sent you a webmail through ILX. let me know if you didn't get it or drop me a line: jergins at gmail dot com

the Reverened: webmailed
Donut: gmailed

who am i forgetting?

jergïns, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 18:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Scott CE - Mr. Jaq saw him last week at the Prince movie. Morley Timmons - maybe Donut can contact, or wait I think she's in that googlegroup thing.

Zora, I webmailed you too. Have a safe trip!

Jaq, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 18:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I got and answered both your emails. Thanks guys! I'll come to croquet FAP as long as the course organisers don't spring anything on us for that Saturday. It'll be great to see a bit more of Seattle than the campus and to meet some ILXors.

Zora, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link

i wish you didn't have to have a gmail account to join that google groups thing.

Lingbert, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 18:47 (sixteen years ago) link

You don't! At least, I don't. I had to make a google account, but not gmail.

Jaq, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 18:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Zora, if you end up with a free evening at some other point during your stay, shout out and we'll all convene for a "Zora's in town!" FAP.

Jaq, Wednesday, 13 June 2007 18:51 (sixteen years ago) link

lingbert, you are working too hard I think. Have you been rainforesting yet? We spotted the hostel over there, it is very rainbow tie-dyed granola, but would be an excellent place to stay for trips to beaches and Hoh.

my friend j0sh r0b3rts is going to spin some records too, like the last fap

jergïns, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 17:39 (sixteen years ago) link

and we're going to try to set up a second croquet course, in case there are more than six people who want to play at a time.

you know when you get those great ideas in the middle of the night and then you wake up and they're not so great? well, i'm still with this one: set up the courses side by side, like one wicket next to the other:

lxy otm

haha i knew formatting would mess up my beautiful wicket ascii

jergïns, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link

We could always have a single course but tons of people playing on it, as long as people remember which is their ball and whose turn it is (but well people forget that anyway).

I started cooking last night for this :)

Jaq, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 17:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I am picturing mad croquet like Desktop Tower Defense IRL!

Jaq, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 17:55 (sixteen years ago) link

jergins, what would be the advantage of having two courses side by side?

Lingbert, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 18:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Tears before sundown.

Jaq, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 18:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i was just thinking of ways that more people could play at once. we've considered the other side yard but there are all those prickly bushes on that side. we can all get out in the backyard and figure it out. that'll be fun

jergïns, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 18:49 (sixteen years ago) link

DANCING before sundown is what i'm saying.

lxy, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 19:07 (sixteen years ago) link

side by side courses is a dumb idea now that i think about it because what if you hit someone's ball from the other game?

jergïns, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 19:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Riot in the side yard!

Jaq, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 19:31 (sixteen years ago) link

Croquet FAP II: Riot In The Side Yard

jergïns, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 19:37 (sixteen years ago) link

ATTN: rioters will have to play on the thorny side of the yard.

(you guys, don't scare zora!)

lxy, Wednesday, 27 June 2007 22:02 (sixteen years ago) link

And if it rains - indoor beer bottle bowling!

Jaq, Thursday, 28 June 2007 18:03 (sixteen years ago) link

or if it rains, dancing starts early!

lxy, Thursday, 28 June 2007 20:42 (sixteen years ago) link

or if it rains we play in the rain. who are we if we can't play in the rain? this is our town.

jergïns, Friday, 29 June 2007 06:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Hello!

Don't worry, I am not easily frightened. Did you get my email? If it's ok with you I'll bring a couple of Clarion West buddies, they can drive me and can therefore provide backup and /or an escape vehicle should it turn out there is reason for fear! ;)

I've been in Seattle a week and a half now but hardly managed to venture out of the sorority house we're living in. We have classes here and then we write, critique, write some more... decompression basically involves yacking at each other about narrative arcs, or gender & identity in online gaming, or Paris Hilton, y'know. It turns out SF writers are just people. They are keeping us damn busy though.

I'm liking the changeable weather, it's a lot like home only warmer on the wet days. There seems to be a good selection of restaurants around the university district, we've had a couple of lunches out. Generally though, they feed us, and that is very nice.

I've ventured outside the U district four times; once for the Locus Awards at the Marriott Courtyard, once for Nancy Kress (who tutored us our first week) reading at the SFM, once to go look round the SFM itself, which was kinda pricy for what you get but gave me a story idea I'm writing up at the moment. Finding out where to catch the bus back here took longer than going round the museum but it's all good. Action. Adventure. Last Friday we went to a party in a posh house on 10th. I don't feel like I've even scratched the surface of Seattle yet.

Zora, Friday, 29 June 2007 07:13 (sixteen years ago) link

OMG NANCY KRESS!!!!! </fangirl>

If you get a chance to eat at Thai Tom, really you should. It's just up the street from Twice-Sold Tales (which is just up the street from the University Bookstore).

Yay Saturday! C'mon Friday, be OVER!

Jaq, Friday, 29 June 2007 14:30 (sixteen years ago) link

r0z i emailed you.

yes this day needs to be over. except there's still a lot to do

jergïns, Friday, 29 June 2007 17:33 (sixteen years ago) link
