one month passes...

Anyone looking for a place to dance to disco/italo/boogie music should stop by the Deco Lounge tonight. It's $5, but send me a message (at myspace.com/ferraripartiers) and i'll put you on the ILX guest list :)

(hope no one minds a little spam..)

I arrive in SF in a week, what will I do? Who will show me a good time!

LUTE JOINTS (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:10 (fifteen years ago) link

i found Steve's advice to pack lunch and spend a day at Angel Island v well-taken. it was mostly brilliantly sunny on a day when much of the bay was fogged in and i found the 6 hour investment in doing the perimeter road (and what was open below it) and taking lots of pictures to be about right, if a lot more than i planned on, but ymmv.

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:28 (fifteen years ago) link

twin peaks towards sunset was also awesome

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:31 (fifteen years ago) link

Angel Island is pretty scorched right now, though.

Lili des Bellons (Michael White), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:33 (fifteen years ago) link

that was part of the awesome, actually. and less than 1/2 of what i encountered was fire-damaged.

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 17:36 (fifteen years ago) link

Dear god Mr. Que and I will be in SF at the same time as JW.

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:50 (fifteen years ago) link

you should all go see the restoration of Lola Montes at the Castro.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:52 (fifteen years ago) link

Where to eat in North Beach?

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 18:59 (fifteen years ago) link

In'N'Out

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:03 (fifteen years ago) link

we've had your In'N'Out and were unimpressed

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:03 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah our Five Guys kicks your In'N'Out's ass. Also: where to eat six thousand oysters?

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:04 (fifteen years ago) link

HOLY SHIT I WANT TO GO THERE

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

Swans Oyster Depot

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:05 (fifteen years ago) link

I don't eat in North Beach, but if I do I generally go to Da Flora.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:06 (fifteen years ago) link

That is if I am not going to In'N'Out which Five Guys haha what-a-joke.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:07 (fifteen years ago) link

quincie, I had wonderful oyster-eating experiences at a late lunch at Zuni Cafe and outdoors at the Hog Island Oyster Co

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:09 (fifteen years ago) link

(at their bar at the ferry bldg that is)

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:09 (fifteen years ago) link

I want to go to SF-88 if anyone wants to drive…

LUTE JOINTS (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:11 (fifteen years ago) link

I believe there is a cheap happy hour at Hog Island on Tuesdays, maybe? $1 oysters, yum.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:11 (fifteen years ago) link

hmmmm i don't think we rented a car but maybe we can work something out. it's open Wed-Fri

SF-88 is open for visiting from Wednesday to Friday of every week as well as the first Saturday of every month. Visiting hours are from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The site is closed during wet weather for your safety. During the week, our site manager John leads periodic tours of the RADAR vans, the fueling area and the missile magazine. During the first Saturday of every month we have an open house with volunteers and Nike Veterans interpreting each of the areas on the base. We also have protection dog demonstrations during some open houses.

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:12 (fifteen years ago) link

i drove past the missile base. the scenery around there - at pt bonita lighthouse and the viewpoints of the bridge along conzelman rd - are more interesting (to a gabbneb).

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:12 (fifteen years ago) link

To a quincie, who is obsessed with all things nuclear, site itself is U&K.

Also: where to play pinball?

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link

My dad used to work in the Headlands (GGNRA) when I was a kid. I used to go to that place all the time but before it was restored.

Lili des Bellons (Michael White), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

*jealous*

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah guys where's the pinball besides that place in Alameda--Lucky JuJu or whatever?

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:16 (fifteen years ago) link

also recommended: go down to ocean beach and walk up to the cliff house at the end of the day (and get inside or leave at sundown before the bugs come out).

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:17 (fifteen years ago) link

e-mail me at mwwhitesf at either ayhoo or mgail

quincie, there are loads of places to play pinball...

Lili des Bellons (Michael White), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:18 (fifteen years ago) link

LUTE JOINTS (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:21 (fifteen years ago) link

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:21 (fifteen years ago) link

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:24 (fifteen years ago) link

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:25 (fifteen years ago) link

LUTE JOINTS (Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Bring layers - hat, scarf, maybe gloves and you'll be fine. It can vary a lot even over the course of a day. Check before you leave, too. It's moderately chilly today, for example, but it's supposed to be warm(ish) this weekend.

Lili des Bellons (Michael White), Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:28 (fifteen years ago) link

i did mostly alright in similar weather with thin sweater+blazer (had to turn up the color a bit) and light mock fleece+light windproof jacket with hood+ballcap

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:33 (fifteen years ago) link

collar

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:37 (fifteen years ago) link

Layers are def. the way to go. Weather is rather unpredictable.

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:41 (fifteen years ago) link

yeah, thin sweater+blazer was also +collared shirt+t-shirt+maybe hands in pockets

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:44 (fifteen years ago) link

gabbneb, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:44 (fifteen years ago) link

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:46 (fifteen years ago) link

I love SF sooooo much, can't wait to visit!

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:47 (fifteen years ago) link

wtf husband he only told us about hands in pockets ONCE which is sound advice particularly for those of us (i.e., ME) who cannot find gloves.

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:48 (fifteen years ago) link

i know about pockets

Mr. Que, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:49 (fifteen years ago) link

Alex in SF, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link

quincie, Tuesday, 11 November 2008 19:50 (fifteen years ago) link
