Resolution makes it worth an upgrade for me - reading text/websites on the iPad 2 is terrible for me, I can read for much longer stretches on my phone.

I colleague of mine said recently that that there isn't really a Tablet market there is only an iPad market and every other tablet out there suffers from not being an iPad. It'll change over time but that seems to be the reality right now.

Way it is now, I think windows 8 is the last hope for a non-Apple tablet market. Android is such a total shitshow on tablets.

It really looks like they're just going to keep calling them "iPad" and drop the generational marker. To be fair, MacBook Pros and iMacs and so on don't say "iMac 7" or anything

Apple wants this thing to be as ubiquitous as every other computing device that doesn't get incremental numbers

Some day, they will try to drop the iPad completely, but people will protest so they'll have to rebadge some other product as the iPad so people can buy "new iPads"

The Fire is okay, but it's so much clunkier to use than an iPad. Don't know why no one else can match the Apple user experience or w/e.

yeah but mobile devices generally do get incremental numbers because their form factors and features change so frequently

The Aus site has the 'RESOLUTIONARY' banner, you click it and get 'IPAD 2'

Change between first gen iPad and second: camera, faster processor, magnets in the side for a cover. Between second and third: better camera, higher res screen, faster processor.

These are really incremental, the only big diff is software which tends to be usable on the last generation or two anyway. You really just have devices that get updates and those that don't.

That said, really high res screen is an increment that means a lot for my prefs

I was predicting it'd be sooner, but I still think Apple's probably going to roll out their next wifi based on the draft specification within the next year. I was thinking 3 - 6 months, but there's no indication yet that the new devices have the capability yet

Only disappointment is still separate versions for AT&T and Verizon.... especially given that the iPhone 4S has GSM (AT&T, rest of world) and CDMA (Verizon) chips in the same phone, I was hoping for a all-in-one GSM/CDMA/LTE device where I could choose change carriers if I travel or move to an area where one has better coverage.

No word on iPad carrier availability for outside of US and Canada? And what's with 4G not working in other countries or when roaming?
