Amanda you might wanna get your schnozz checked if you don't smell the jizz on the breeze....

No way man, my schnoz is in tip top shape. I am an excellent smeller, and my nose is large enough to be considered an authority on the matter of scent.

I figure amongst the regulars on the thread there's bound to be some worthwhile opinions on this:
I've written a bunch of web articles for the group of soccer lovers I've fallen in with and I'm wondering how I should preserve a few of the best of them as writing samples or portfolio items. The formatting's not that important, I'm just wondering how to strike a balance of 'officialness' while making them easily stored and shared. Screenshots? Text (html) files? Both?

Upload to Google docs and email them to yourself. That's what I do with all docs I want to preserve. I usually also store them on my laptop or thumb drive at work.

If it were me and I was really feeling paranoid I'd save them in rtf and PDF.

And HTML if appropriate since theyre web articles.

The collection of work I was really proud of from college - as well as personal stuff and high school fiction - was all lost in a terrible external hard drive crash. Since then I've been beyond diligent in managing my documents. Work habits helped, too.
― free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:22 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah this is partially driven by weirdness with my older mac laptop and the imminent shift of the group's web site from a CMS clusterfuck to a sleeker Wordpress. There are over 600 articles on the old site and any I don't save are gonna get deleted.
― dan m, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 02:24 (twelve years ago) link
How you save them depends on what you want to showcase. If it's web design and writing together, save them as HTML and take some screen shots so you can have those for reference if any images break. If you just want to show the writing, I'd just save them as text files. I would definitely not just do screenshots because then you lose edibility/flexibility.
― carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 12:38 (twelve years ago) link
If you want to save all of them, beg whoever is running the website to export them because 600 articles is a lot.
there's a scent on the breezeof crotch-smelling treesvideo gaaaaames

I didn't write all 600! But thanks, that's a good way to think about it.
There are 4 jizz trees on our morning dogwalk route.

― congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 14:44 (twelve years ago) link
It's not over 80 degrees here, so I am happier right now than I was all yesterday afternoon.
In other things that are making me happy: a lawyer just came into this office and his cell phone rang and his ring tone is "Smooth Criminal." LOL.

I was starting to feel in the minority with the nice weather, I really love the 70s, but no thanks to 80+ in March. There'll be plenty of time for that this summer.

Y'all if you ever feel lonely because you don't like warm weather, you can come hang out at the Overheated, Sweaty Kids table with Jesse and Dan and me. There's room for everyone. Just don't touch us; we're hot.
I have been watching the extended forecast like a hawk waiting to see when this misery will end. Sunny and highs in the 50s is pretty much my favorite weather, and that should be happening right now!

you can save a webpage as a PDF (in os x) by going to print and selecting "print to PDF" as the destination. with windows you have to install something like this freeware to get that functionality. PDFs are imo the best way to archive a webpage if you just want the appearance and not the source code

Overheated, Sweaty Kid Stable
I lived in NC for 11 years in high school and beyond, but I dislike the heat more every summer.
― free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:43 (twelve years ago) link
I actually liked the heat for a while when I lived in NC, but not after a while.
carl, were we so anti-heat when we lived there? I don't remember this really starting until we moved to Chicago.

And I remember YOU absolutely hating the heat and there is a post of yours somewhere from December, 2004 where you say that you wish it were colder!

that wasn't an accusation, sorry, I just was so confused when you jumped the heat-hating ship and went to the hot side
It was a subtle change. I don't like oppressively hot, but the last 2 days have been glorious. I don't like it hot at night.
― Jeff, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 17:53 (twelve years ago) link
This is not hot weather, folks.

― dan m, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:10 (twelve years ago) link
And I actually don't think this is too bad at all, it just gives me the willies that it's happening in March.
Jesse, I definitely did not like the heat of NC (I remember one notable birthday of mine when it was in the 80s and I was just super depressed about it) but everything was airconditioned thoroughly and we all drove cars so it didn't seem as bad.
I'd whine less of we had the window unit running in the bedroom, but it's locked in a shed and it's supposed to cool off this weekend so, hot sweaty sleep it is.
― carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago) link
thank god that xp allowed me to not make a joke about willies
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:14 (twelve years ago) link
Ha - I thought "beware the willies of march," but it's not that great a joke. but everything was airconditioned thoroughly and we all drove cars so it didn't seem as bad.
That is important. That's why I say that living in New Orleans from May-November was easier for me than spending a summer here. Mostly because we walk so much here.
― free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:19 (twelve years ago) link

Are the crotch trees also the jizz trees? I always wanted to smell the jizz trees but now I never will. :(
― free societies must let drunken gay Texans have sex (Je55e), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:27 (twelve years ago) link
I have never identified the smell of a plant as either of those things, so I have no idea.
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago) link
God, know what is the best smell?! BASIL.
There are many dogwood trees from the train station to my house. I don't know if these smell like crotch, but I strongly dislike the way they smell.
― carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:47 (twelve years ago) link
One of my favorite commutes ever was a 15 min walk past tons and tons of jasmine and gardenia plants. It was dreamy.
― Laura Lucy Lynn (La Lechera), Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:49 (twelve years ago) link
That sounds nice. One of the places we lived when I was growing up had a yard full of lily of the valley. And honey suckle is always going to smell like my elementary school's playground in summer (we would walk there to hang out when school was out).
― carl agatha, Wednesday, 21 March 2012 18:54 (twelve years ago) link
I would just like to say that the dogwood trees down south are so freaking beautiful right now. In a week they'll be invisible again.
