So they went the Frasier route.

The Lurch and Morticia comment makes more sense now that I've seen the house.
So was Betty wearing her real baby fat or did they just put her in costume?

lolromney part was funny.
Loved watching Pete burn Roger in front of the whole office.

best: Megan gamely saying "yes" in response to something Mrs. Heinz said in just the same way Don gamely says "yes" when he just needs the conversation to continue.
worst: Betty eating ice cream was too """on the nose"""
― Nicholas Pokémon (silby), Monday, 2 April 2012 04:28 (twelve years ago) link
Don Draper saying "yes" is like my favorite thing about this show

I read this as her previously overstepping/being too modern ("well, don was divorced...") and realizing that "yes" is the correct answer, even if she found work talk exciting from a professional pov.
― Waxahachie Swap (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Monday, 2 April 2012 04:40 (twelve years ago) link
Didn't Betty "Yes" her way through dinners just like that in season 1 or am I not remembering correctly?
― *tera, Monday, 2 April 2012 04:51 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, but I think she had two modes because I remember her asking which kind of wife she should be a dinner they were going to.

worry about a season long fat-suit tbh.

the fat is a metaphor for america getting sluggish and needing revolution do u c

She said yes to Mrs. Heinz saying soemething like "We're boring hou, aren't we?", which seemed tactless.

film wonkery : john slattery is (assuming the DP didn't "actually" direct his episode) a better director than Hamm.

kind of irritating so far. a little too young Woody Allen.
― dmr, Monday, 2 April 2012 16:37 (twelve years ago) link
felt like Roger's "When is everything going get back to normal?" / clinging to the ledge while the young kids step on my toes monologue was key
― dmr, Monday, 2 April 2012 16:38 (twelve years ago) link
yeah Roger's been dropping hints about jumping out the window for like two seasons.
and of course nothing ever gets "back to normal".

kind of a boring episode. was afraid there was going to be a Mother's Little Helper montage for a second. also lol fat betty

Roger's too vain to be suicidal. Even if he hates his job and his wife, he knows he has a natural charm and can get by on it for all his remaining years.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 2 April 2012 19:26 (twelve years ago) link
Plus he's not really all that reflective. He just moves on, he's not a dweller like Don.
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 2 April 2012 19:30 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, that too. Roger has no mood swings because he's mostly oblivious to what's going on around him.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 2 April 2012 19:35 (twelve years ago) link
serious question: has any sympathetic adult character on this show ever been seen taking a bite of food? seems like people only get to eat on the show when the writers want to show them in an unflattering light.
― eyes of dora maar (get bent), Monday, 2 April 2012 19:35 (twelve years ago) link
sympathetic?

i mean everyone hates harry, and lolwhitecastle rite?
we're meant to hate betty, and there's the eating from last night, and that one episode where she does it with a stranger in a bar (that whore!) and eats out of the refrigerator when she gets home.

there are plenty of scenes that I can think of that take place at meals, but I'm not sure about the actually seeing people eat thing
― You big bully, why are you hitting that little bully? (Shakey Mo Collier), Monday, 2 April 2012 19:48 (twelve years ago) link

the "actually eating" is what i'm talking about. and i know sally has gotten to eat, that's why i was asking about adults.

this is something Sopranos conscientiously did all the time but tbf it's pretty rare on TV shows, not just Mad Man. It's really hard to shoot scenes of people with their mouths full.
