even at her most sympthetic/vulnerable it was noticeable that when she gets the good news, betty's second thought is "now i don't have an excuse for being fat." lol shallow betty.
jewish copywriter has a lot of promise for the show, i think. did you notice he wore jeans to his interview?
remember that peggy's boyfriend and roger's wife are both jewish.

I liked how as far as Betty is concerned, Megan is 20.

Harry isn't terrible, just useless and overpromoted because he happened to luck out at the right time. But then this is an organisation where Roger still has a job, so...
Henry didn't tell Betty that Don had called to, y'know, find out whether she had cancer or not. That's going to kick off in time.
I didn't really expect the camera to follow Ginsberg home and I don't really get why it did. The character has potential but they've never really bothered to do that with Ken or Harry.
― Homosexual Satan Wasp (Matt DC), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 09:46 (twelve years ago) link
presumably odd Ginsberg Sr is going to be a significant presence over time in a way Ken or Harry's families aren't
― seven league bootie (James Morrison), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 10:25 (twelve years ago) link
they're presumably setting him to be a major character the way they did peggy
where do i know that actor from?
― flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 11:36 (twelve years ago) link
Betty sais Megan is 20, but later in the episode Megan says she's 26.

Very curious to see if Stan's prediction that Michael will outshine Peggy comes true.
― Cuba Pudding, Jr. (jaymc), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 12:47 (twelve years ago) link
No kidding, Betty's perspective way skewed. Megan's 26, and Betty is what, still early 30s? I get where she's coming from in that she feels like Megan's a know-nothing youth, especially with the marriage/kids/social society bit, but it's almost like the two of them are separated by only a handful of years and a complete social generation.
― mh, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 13:45 (twelve years ago) link
I think Betty also feels older because she married an older politician and has a lot of responsibilities that Megan does not have -- contrast her ancient, forbidding house with the hip apartment Don and Megan are living in.

Kind of sad about Don's lack of reinvention. The guy can relate to all kinds of people, but he's really no good at changing himself in any major way.
― mh, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 14:02 (twelve years ago) link
it's funny how everyone in this thread keeps going on about how useless harry is when he is actually kind of the only business visionary in the show, realized the potential of and built the whole TV department and probably kept both firms afloat? but he's bumbling and fattish so you have an excuse to feel superior to him

I'm still thinking about Henry totally blowing off Don's call. I don't even get why he would be mad that Betty told Don about the tumor.
Ugh @ soap opera people.
― Peppermint Patty Hearst (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 15:18 (twelve years ago) link
also, ginsburg's dad benching him was way bizarre and strange
full confession: Ginsburg is the first character I've felt any identification with on this show at all (well, apart from maybe Peggy's latest boyfriend) ... but yeah this was weird, was wondering if I was missing something. was he blessing him because he got the job or something? I was perplexed.
xp

Probably because Betty didn't tell him she had told Don? That would seem slightly shady to me.

Betty and Don have three children together. I'm sure there are conversations they have that Henry doesn't know about and Henry should be smart enough to realize this happens.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 15:35 (twelve years ago) link
Henry doesn't strike me as particularly smart
― You big bully, why are you hitting that little bully? (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 15:36 (twelve years ago) link
BUT I think Henry has some weird inferiority complex re: Don and has to act out in some way.
― Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 3 April 2012 15:36 (twelve years ago) link
altho he IS divorced and has told Betty to get over it in terms of dealing with Don and raising their children so yeah I dunno
I really liked the Betty/Don drama in this. 'Tell me everything will be alright' was pretty awesome. Also i loved how Harry was too high to notice he was being scammed by the non-Rolling Stones.
I really don't understand the Harry hate. He seems more like a good-natured goof than anything.
― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 15:37 (twelve years ago) link
Didn't Harry basically go to Roger "maybe we should have a TV department" and Roger went "okay, you're the head of the TV department" because he didn't really care. And yeah the TV department is one person. It's pretty difficult to work out what he actually does other than occasionally meeting with TV execs and being a hapless buffoon. He's actually a lot less fat than he used to be and has becoming increasingly buffoonish with time. I don't hate him, but he is kind of comically inept.
Speaking of hapless buffoons, they're never going to bring Kinsey back are they?

I loved Harry talking about Charlton Heston. I think that he comes off as intensely over-eager and also kinda smarmy which I think is why most people are turned off by him.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 15:41 (twelve years ago) link
I could see them bringing anyone back for a guest spot (a la Midge). I think it's not terribly likely than any of the former regulars, come back as regulars at this point cuz really what's left to say about Sal or Kinsey at this point.
― Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 3 April 2012 15:43 (twelve years ago) link
yeah I could see them being brought back to serve a particular plot point, but not as recurring characters

Don bumps into Sal on Fire Island in the show finale lol
Yeah, I think if any former regulars/featured(s) come back, it might be a drop-in from Duck or Freddy Rumsen.
