Motta was an amateur mistake of the coach
― nostormo, Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:10 (eleven years ago) link
I don't think he was injured when he came on
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:11 (eleven years ago) link
yeah but he didnt play for a while, and didnt warm up enough
― nostormo, Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:13 (eleven years ago) link
also, no more subs after 60 min?
― nostormo, Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:14 (eleven years ago) link
the motta sub seemed strange anyway, a less attacking player than montolivo at 0-2
rm might have been tiring but with only 1 sub left, it was rash

Italian goal just around the corner
― Özil Gummidge (Nasty, Brutish & Short), Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link
xps Maximum of three subs, Motta himself was the third sub (Italy had an injury and had to use one really early on)
― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:18 (eleven years ago) link
as i said it was a mistake

One priceless Lawro moment, when thingy mentioned Pirlo's quote about losing the final being like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope: "done that a few times"― Ismael Klata, Sunday, 1 July 2012 Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Can't wait for the World Cup and see how the Spanish team (certainly replacements for a tiring Iniesta & Xavi) will do against Brazil & Argentina in their own back yard.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:25 (eleven years ago) link
good chance Spain will also win the next World Cup - almost all pkayers under 30 years old.

I guess that assist gives Torres the Golden Boot.

If only Di Natale would've scored...Spain would've gotten more, I guess.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 July 2012 20:34 (eleven years ago) link
Thing is the match was all over by half-time. In that sense it was boring :)
so unfair that this is the side who Spain finally give a pasting to

ohh supermario has gone nuts at something

i feel really bad after that. as bad as i can feel after an international game, because italy is my team in the euros. there's a big gulf between the quality of the two, but italy went for them and so the game was open. this meant spain's usual "boring" play was translated into chances and goals, because italy didnt park the bus. so it feels like vindication for the "no striker" tactic, but of course it would've been a totally different game if di natale had scored one of his chances, and prandelli hadnt taken off marchisio, and italy hadn't been reduced to ten men. the last 10 minutes were likely to be an onslaught from spain in any case, as we saw in the first game between the two,but 2 nil down and down to ten men was just too much for them. bruuuuutal.

iniesta certainly

Did Italy really fly into Kiev at 3am last night? Someone's going to get absolutely castigated for that.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 1 July 2012 21:07 (eleven years ago) link
Iniesta will, not sure about Xavi - that might be the first big selection mistake. Bosque is ruthless so I reckon he'll let him go.
But hey replacements are there.
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 July 2012 21:08 (eleven years ago) link
Golden Boot for three goals is pretty lame.

Know what you mean, but actually I can see those levels of passing and fluidity being maintained if Xavi left. They are a team+++

that is incredible.
― tell it to my arse (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 1 July 2012 21:14 (eleven years ago) link
xavi is amazing, there is nobody else who has ever been able to do what he does
iniesta is similarly amazing in having the skill and vision to rank with just about every #10 this side of maradona while playing in central midfield
spain have loads of great players but those two are above them
