nvm. they've built everything up to like... gay island or something, complete with an 8 bit pocket full of hawthornes theme.

yessss 8-bit version of daybreak

reddit association aside i think this is pretty great. i have a soft spot for fan games, i spent all last sunday playing those king's quest remakes that meticulously update the outdated graphic style of 1984 to the slightly less outdated graphical style of 1992.

From that top picture I can only surmise that the new season will be lame.

phantompenguin, Tuesday, 25 September 2012 10:03 (eleven years ago) link

The mere premise of Jeff being required to do ballroom dancing or something similar with the Dean is hilarious.

In the future, the creative geniuses of The Internet will be able to discern a television season's lameness from the mere description of a promotional photograph!

no matter what this season turns out, nothing will be as cringey as the "#sixseasonsandamovie" tag that ended last season

From this:

In 2010, former troupe-mates Donald Glover and DC Pierson returned from Los Angeles to perform at The Creek and The Cave, in New York City. Glover was tossed a question from an audience member: What's it like working with Chevy Chase? In response, he described how Chase had delivered a 40-minute lecture to Saturday Night Live cast member Bobby Moynihan laying out the case for why Glover has to be homosexual, which he is not. "That's the only way a guy like Chevy Chase has of processing a black guy who looks like me, talks like me, dresses like me," said Glover on stage that night. "That's how alien I am to him."

UPDATE: NBC has now issued a statement:

“Given the success we’ve had for the past four weeks – including winning the first week of the season in A18-49 – we’ve decided to continue to concentrate our promotional strength on our new NBC shows that are scheduled Monday through Wednesday and have therefore decided to hold COMMUNITY and WHITNEY from their previously announced premieres of October 19th. Without having to launch these comedies on Friday at this time, we can keep our promotion focused on earlier in the week -- plus we will have both comedies in our back pocket if we need to make any schedule changes on those nights. When we have a better idea of viewing patterns in the next few weeks, we will announce new season premieres of WHITNEY and COMMUNITY. “

'we are afraid if we promote anything else the monday through wednesday shows that people seem not to hate will tank'

I guess the Whitney reboot isn't 100% yet.

50 Shades of Greil (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 05:51 (eleven years ago) link

the show really can't go anywhere but up, so i'm actually curious to see how that shakes out. most sitcoms don't even get the chance to retool these days

Nhex, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 06:00 (eleven years ago) link

The Up All Night retooling was a lateral move at best. In fact, it's probably a step backwards, because now Maya Rudolph really doesn't have much reason to even be around.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 06:05 (eleven years ago) link

What's they do to up all night? Didn't tune in yet this year but I guess I'm curious what they was changed

no more show within the show.

The Ava show got canceled, so Regan is now the naive at-home mom and Chris has started a business with her younger brother. Missy the assistant is gone and Ava is flailing about with nothing to really do.

clearly nbc has a mild dislike/hate relationship with their best show. watching this from the outside, sometimes it seems like the whole upper management echelon has decided to go down with the traditional media ship, ego's intact, barking orders from their casting couches, rather than try to actually run a successful business.

"how dare mark harmon disagree with us!?!? who does he think he is? fire him and destroy the show immediately, lest he get more residuals!"

messiahwannabe, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 06:36 (eleven years ago) link

Somewhere there's apparently a quote from Orson Welles that Hollywood is not about money, it's about ego.

Fiendish Doctor Wu (kingfish), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 06:38 (eleven years ago) link

lol @ the thought of Community being a Mark Harmon creation.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 06:40 (eleven years ago) link

I never realized that was a Carl Reiner movie. I saw it about 20 times in the late 80s, but haven't watched it since. I probably had idea who Carl Reiner was at the time.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 07:06 (eleven years ago) link

ha ha, whoops, guess i'm not as rabid a community fan as i thought i was

messiahwannabe, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 07:38 (eleven years ago) link

aw, I thought that was a "disengaged nbc execs" zing

fistula-la-la (sic), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 08:05 (eleven years ago) link

ABC and CBS collectively have, like, three shows I care about at all but I have so much more respect for the way they're run and the sense that there's some kind of clear vision behind the hands steering the ship. NBC (the home of almost every network series I make a point of watching regularly), on the other hand, feels way too much like some places I've worked where a handful of sniveling and cowardly mid-level execs with no real courage in their convictions are steering the ship in eight different directions and you just have to sit back and watch in morbid curiosity as the thing implodes in slow motion. I almost feel like their best stuff slips through the cracks and happens by accident because no one's paying all that much attention. Which is probably the biggest mistake Harmon made. He should've just done whatever was possible to fly under the radar.

Old Lunch, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 08:51 (eleven years ago) link

NBC was actually going to promote Community? By running an ad or two on their own network?

Sony fired him, not NBC

fistula-la-la (sic), Tuesday, 9 October 2012 11:00 (eleven years ago) link

it cracks me up when people talk like NBC will rue the day they messed with Community. NBC fucks up all the time -- if they go down the tubes it won't be because of any one decision, and certainly not because they didn't try harder to treat one low-rated comedy well and keep it on the air as long as possible.

some dude, Tuesday, 9 October 2012 11:07 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, how they handled Community is nowhere near the biggest of their fuck ups.
