is it just me or is the RMBP screen very very very hard to keep clean?

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:09 (eleven years ago) link

that's my impression

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:12 (eleven years ago) link

does it smear?

dayo, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:13 (eleven years ago) link

all I know is that I've got what look like rainspots all over my screen and I have no idea where they came from

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:14 (eleven years ago) link

EXACTLY

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:16 (eleven years ago) link

that's from spittakes at ilx iirc

your naïve bacon (mh), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

me TOO!

insect droppings?!?

and then when i use my screen cleaner and microfiber i have to go at it for like half an hour to get all smears and prints off

is that just a side effect of this thing having such a bitchen screen?

the late great, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:17 (eleven years ago) link

it's a new process where the glass is directly uh glued to the lcd or something right?

dayo, Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link

man my matte screen is all awesome

I should put this in the hate apple thread, but I've been having a prob with my laptop kind of freezing on wake. I think it's either trying to start time machine before the wifi wakes up and is hanging, or who knows. The system logs haven't been useful.

your naïve bacon (mh), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:34 (eleven years ago) link

googling makes me think this might be Transmit, or another app trying to use bonjour on wake. idk, it is just irritating.

btw, I finally figured out that my computers were seeing the 802.11n signal at 2.4GHz before the 5GHz one and were connecting at that lame frequency. Told my airport to transmit a separate name on that channel, connected the devices that can use it, and my network is working much more interference-free. very recommended.

your naïve bacon (mh), Tuesday, 11 September 2012 20:38 (eleven years ago) link

been having this issue since I updated to mountail lion - intensely annoying. I found a fix yesterday that sounded promising (involving playing around with wifi settings) - will report back if anyone else is interested.

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 13:04 (eleven years ago) link

RAM issue? xp

dayo, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 13:09 (eleven years ago) link

is this where we're liveblogging iphone 5 launch or

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 13:54 (eleven years ago) link

oh, certainly not.

I removed Transmit's menu item from my startup stuff and it seems ok now. I think it's some issue with apps invoking bonjour stuff on wake and it locking the network interface up.

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 13:54 (eleven years ago) link

sure! I will be stealthily watching from my training thingy

I'm hoping for a refactored iTunes that's more component-based so we have a music app and an iPhone/iPod/iPad sync app

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:02 (eleven years ago) link

if this is just a stretched 4s I think i'll probably be too lamed out to care abt the dock

stet, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:07 (eleven years ago) link

if this is just a stretched 4S I will be super psyched and feel totally justified in my decision to stay on the 4

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:08 (eleven years ago) link

(I just don't want the basic shape to change; I love the "original iPhone and Blackberry Pearl had a baby" shape of the iPhone4)

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:09 (eleven years ago) link

their biggest challenge is LTE, they have to deliver on it in order to compete but it will murder battery life which is already not too great

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:10 (eleven years ago) link

I am hoping it comes with tweezers, scissors & one of those little saw things you can use to cut ropes when you're trapped by trolls in a dungeon

Euler, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:12 (eleven years ago) link

also NFC

Euler, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

I'm currently on the refined platform (3gs/4s) upgrade path, anticipating the 5s here

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:13 (eleven years ago) link

I have two friends who have owned every single iPhone. One is a tech analyst so he has some excuse for it; the other one has also owned every iPad and is just an Apple zombie.

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:15 (eleven years ago) link

Hoping for new iMacs today; I've got that new 27" smell in my nose, retina display or no.

Irwin Dante's Towering Inferno (WmC), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:15 (eleven years ago) link

Figured after some hesitation I will go for the 5 if only because while I love my 3Gs it's probably about time. However I want to see what prices are before definitely deciding.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:17 (eleven years ago) link

3gs only worth sticking with if your time is worth nothing or you use no apps made post-2010

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:20 (eleven years ago) link

My wife got a 3GS a month ago and loves it. She was hardcore Blackberry til then. She only uses it for calls, email, maps and the web so it's basically perfect for her.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:25 (eleven years ago) link

And I have to say it feels much nicer in the hand than the current crop of 90-degree angle iPhones.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:26 (eleven years ago) link

I've been using my dad's 1G iphone for the last nine months (w/o a data plan, lol @ my dad) & I'm gonna be sad to lose its curved form factor for the blockier form that seems likely to emerge today.

Euler, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:28 (eleven years ago) link

BLOCKY 4 LYFE

CURVY PHONES CAN SUCK IT

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:31 (eleven years ago) link

C'mon even Lego people have curved hands.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

gis for "i like curves" not advisable at work

Euler, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

we are men
we are not Lego

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:33 (eleven years ago) link

The nice thing about 3Gs is that it'll run iOS6, and while it can be a bit slow it's been doing nicely for me all this time. Including with new apps, so. Also agreed on design vs. blockiness.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 14:38 (eleven years ago) link

I bet you all pine for the old iBooks that looked like dayglo waffle irons, too

DARING PRINCESS (DJP), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:01 (eleven years ago) link

here's hoping the battery life improvements in iOS6 to support LTE will trickle down to the pre-5 phones

vincent black shadow giallo (Edward III), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:12 (eleven years ago) link

maybe the new iPhone and any future iPad revision will use batteries that don't double as bread warmers

who am I kidding, how will I warm my bread?

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:14 (eleven years ago) link

those ibooks are dope, could use them thinner though

Euler, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:14 (eleven years ago) link

TiBook still the most dope laptop, if they could stop that paint peeling

stet, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:17 (eleven years ago) link

retina mbp seems pretty dope imo

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:18 (eleven years ago) link

you could carve a turkey with an MBA

caek, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:21 (eleven years ago) link

have we linked the the nut who filed down the edge on his aluminum MBP so that it wouldn't be as sharp and it just looked like total shit?

ɥɯ ︵ (°□°) (mh), Wednesday, 12 September 2012 15:25 (eleven years ago) link

Saw the turquoise iBook in a stats class yesterday.

ljubljana, Wednesday, 12 September 2012 16:14 (eleven years ago) link
