christ the Just Business mission is pissing me off, I reckon I've been about a second off of finishiung it too, must have failed about 8 times now :o(

Porkpie (porkpie), Sunday, 31 October 2004 19:37 (nineteen years ago) link

When I just had an afro and muscles, people kept calling me a male-model. So I had to kill them.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Sunday, 31 October 2004 19:41 (nineteen years ago) link

I had my hair cut the same way my real life flatmate has his hair cut, and my sex appeal dropped by about 50%. I didn't tell him this, he's very sensitive about his hair.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 1 November 2004 00:28 (nineteen years ago) link

which one was the just business one?

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 00:31 (nineteen years ago) link

Sweets and Ryder and Big Smoke just went off the radar for me.. gonna steal some stereo system for OG Log before i go to bed.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 00:34 (nineteen years ago) link

I've found that cornrows are the best hair for a sex appeal increase.

Haaaaaitch (haitch), Monday, 1 November 2004 00:44 (nineteen years ago) link

ken, you're at exactly the same point in the game as me, nicking the stereo was the last thing I did before bed tonight! Aw. We bought it together. And we're still in sync. Wow.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 1 November 2004 01:07 (nineteen years ago) link

Are people finding the stereo-system stealing mission horrendously difficult? I've read loads of people say they can't do the dancing stuff, but I've been fine on all that press-this-button-now stuff so far. I did mess it up by DRIVING THE VAN STRAIGHT INTO THE SEA straight afterwards though.

I am gradually getting to the stage where all the missions open to me are ones I'm stuck on, though. I keep messing up 'Wrong Side Of The Tracks', and I haven't even tried the Cesar race mission because I'm crap at driving and all the horror stories I've heard about it so far have put me off. I may do some burglary.

Also, people tell me that if you see a guy in a check shirt and chains standing still with his hands clasped, he is a drug dealer and should be killed because he will have a gun and lots of money.

Are people finding the stereo-system stealing mission horrendously difficult?

YES. And it's not even like I'm bad at rhythm action games, I'm a bloody expert, I've played them all, right down to britney's dance beat. This just felt like the most unforgiving one I've ever played though. Eventually I came up with a crazy theory - it judges when you release the buttons, not when you hit them. So hitting them dead on time won't necessarily work if you hold them down for too long, you've got to make sure really quickly tap them too.

I know this sounds insane, and might just be nonsense, but...well.

JimD (JimD), Monday, 1 November 2004 01:14 (nineteen years ago) link

The guy who did the 100% completion guides to GTA3 and Vice City on Gamefaqs.com has already given up, and is just doing a missions FAQ. Jesus. Apparently this was brought on by him purchasing the Bradygames guide (generally just a goiod starting point to the dedicated FAQ-writer) and finding out that it was 273 pages.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 1 November 2004 01:42 (nineteen years ago) link

The hint to beating 'Wrong Side of the Tracks' is in the name itself: not only do you have to be in close vicinity to the front car of the train, you should actually keep the bike just to the right of the outermost track. Otherwise most of Smoke's shots will just ricochet off the train itself.

Cesar's lowrider race wasn't that hard -- the pseudo-Impala car (the Blade?) has awful shitty handling but if you can get a Voodoo (late '50s lead-sled with tailfins & hydraulics) that seems to handle much better.

Trust me, there are far, far worse missions. The novelty of hearing David Cross in a GTA game wears off quickly once you find out what you have to do for his sorry ass.

MC Transmaniacon (natepatrin), Monday, 1 November 2004 01:59 (nineteen years ago) link

today i have also jacked a tow truck, grabbed a car and dragged it (with driver inside) onto a train track, and then waited until the train hit it! hahahahahaha CRASH!!! unfortunately the car didn't get mashed up as much as you'd think a car that's been hit by a train would be like! but still hahahhaha. i'm going to try it again with a more duffed up car next time.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 04:12 (nineteen years ago) link

I like creating a pileup at a busy intersection and then blowing the gas tank on one of the cars. As with every other GTA title, I get tired of the missions and just start randomly killing people and blowing shit up - only now I have to lift weights on a regular basis.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Monday, 1 November 2004 04:20 (nineteen years ago) link

i just played this at my brother's house, its pretty cool but mostly more of the same.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 1 November 2004 04:28 (nineteen years ago) link

Clothes are the easiest way to increase sex appeal, but the stuff you find at Binco's won't do much (for the most part). The Prolaps store in east Los Santos is a bit better.

The key to winning races is to get ahead, then drive conservatively. I usually hate these, but I don't find that they're as annoying here (although the lowrider race gave me fits - at least it's short).

I'm just about finished with the Syndicate missions in San Fierro - finished Woozie, but I hope to god that I don't have to complete the David Cross missions to move on.

Joshua Houk (chascarrillo), Monday, 1 November 2004 04:44 (nineteen years ago) link

You people that actually have it now, is the weight-lifting, food-eating, etc. as annoying as some people worried it would be? That stuff doesn't sound like fun to me.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Monday, 1 November 2004 08:34 (nineteen years ago) link

IS THIS THE SIMS?

LE CHUCK!™ (ex machina), Monday, 1 November 2004 08:35 (nineteen years ago) link

It is the Sims with Uzis.

Dan: the eating isn't that big an imposition. You can go two game days without eating before you start losing energy, and if you're doing missions then you'll probably need the energy boost anyway. The weight training isn't that bad either, do like 25 reps on the bench press and you hit your limit for the day.

The Midnight ROFFLEr (haitch), Monday, 1 November 2004 08:58 (nineteen years ago) link

the weight lifting is additive! i ended up going to the gym every day just so i could max out my muscles (which lasts pretty much forever once you have them) but then again i'm so vain even in GTA3 that i want as much sex appeal as i can get!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 09:36 (nineteen years ago) link

my copy just arrived in the post, much to the delight of myself and the rest of the office.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 1 November 2004 09:57 (nineteen years ago) link

just business is the one on the back of the bike, it's painful.

can't work that blooming forklift in the national guard robbery either.

I did the sound system one second try though, by some way too and I'm, rubbish at that sort of thing.

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 1 November 2004 10:03 (nineteen years ago) link

oh yeah! just business was that one that was like Terminator 2. haha i enjoyed that (probably lucky to pass first time though)

The forklift truck one was hard - I think every now and then you need to get off the truck to help out ryder shoot down the oncoming guards.

i'm going to try and new way of stealing police cars tonight (by towing it back to my garage - the police don't arrest you for forklifting their cars! so maybe not towing either!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 11:13 (nineteen years ago) link

just business or "the g4y s3x motorbike one" as i'm calling it, is indeed painful, although the blurs when you get up to a million miles an hour on the bike don't help.

i think as usual with these things, finishing him off as soon as poss is the way forward. the good thing about the mission is it gives you a semi(automatic) even if you fail it, which is handy...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 11:16 (nineteen years ago) link

also, how many of you grove street playas are wearing green today ;)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 11:36 (nineteen years ago) link

haha - so is it necessary in the game to wear green? (like i never tried - like do they shoot you if you wear purple?)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 11:43 (nineteen years ago) link

they shoot you anyway, regardless of yr colours, I like luring them round corners if they come after me and then kicking seven bells out of them.

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 1 November 2004 11:56 (nineteen years ago) link

OMG! I didn't know that you can slit someone's throat from behind if you have a knife!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 11:58 (nineteen years ago) link

i can't wait to learn martial arts.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 11:59 (nineteen years ago) link

yes, i took my green hoodie off and am still getting fired at any time i go near balla territory...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 12:11 (nineteen years ago) link

but i mean would your homies start shooting you if you wear purple? thinking you're their sworn enemy (guess not though!)

even my low-rider is green! i am in love with the lowrider hopping game.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 12:13 (nineteen years ago) link

Can you turn off "trails" (IE the speed blurring) in options?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 1 November 2004 12:23 (nineteen years ago) link

i don't think so...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 12:29 (nineteen years ago) link

i still haven't found the bars yet - do they actually serve you alcohol? (so you get that drunk effect like you did on that moonshine level on vice city??)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 12:43 (nineteen years ago) link

The countryside areas are very impressive with the luvly grass effect, I've only played the game for 50 minutes today at lunch time.

Huge Session tonight i think.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:32 (nineteen years ago) link

Have you guys eaten too much, it's really funny, you throw up! Also have you played the arcade games in the bar?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:33 (nineteen years ago) link

no, and yes.

DUALITY is the best arcade game i've found so far, it's completely incomprehensible, just as arcade games were in the early 90s...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:44 (nineteen years ago) link

Indeed! The tattoos & hairstyles are really funny too!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:45 (nineteen years ago) link

I heard that Gradius was one of the games, haven't seen them yet.

Can you shave all your hair off? This is the only hair style i approve of.

Ste (Fuzzy), Monday, 1 November 2004 14:47 (nineteen years ago) link

i am currently bald with a goatee, although i nearly went for the pink mohawk last night...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:14 (nineteen years ago) link

I'm happy to see I'm not alone in struggling with Just Business. Each time I've tried it, I've gotten through the fence, and then around the part where there are barrels, there's some sort of explosion and I fail the mission. Very very annoying.

Anyone know what the red mark on the map is that's called the "Player Target"?

Jonathan (Jonathan), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:40 (nineteen years ago) link

Forklifting is tough and I cannot get past that bit yet, tatoos rule, as does running around with huge muscles and no top on (phweet phew) so far my fav bit is going to what looks like a university near the airport and killing students who diss my way of life.
I am a mean pool hustler (only beaten once and a grand way to increase your money). I like thre bit when you drive to the badlands using the train tracks – when you steal a car you get instant 4 stars and the hick police kick the poo outta yah, steal a bike and huge chasing ensues, brill.

does anyone know where the flying school is? I looked around the airport but nothing so far

james (james), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:43 (nineteen years ago) link

it's in las venturas I think.

I got out the far end of the tunnel in just business, and then exploded, grrrrrrr

the player target works by finding what you need on the map (I use it to find a pay n spray) clicking on it and instead of the easy to miss icon on yr radar, there's a 'kin huge red dot to aim for

pimping missions are ace, and a money spinner too.

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:47 (nineteen years ago) link

Has anyone actually started doing any of their new-found GTA habits (pimpin', whackin' etc.) in real life yet?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:56 (nineteen years ago) link

ken c now has corn rows.

and you should see what he's done to your old car!!

Rob Bolton (Rob Bolton), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:58 (nineteen years ago) link

Dude, has he pimped his ride?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 November 2004 15:58 (nineteen years ago) link

i've been playing this game all weekend and also just finished reading 1984.. my actual dream last night was me being in some weird inner struggle between committing thoughtcrimes and physical crimes!!!!!!!!!! Grand Thought Auto, if you may!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:00 (nineteen years ago) link

xpost

it now BOUNCES!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:00 (nineteen years ago) link

Kewl!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:01 (nineteen years ago) link

fo' shizzle, bizzle lazizzle etc...

i saw a truck with ladders on the back this morning and thought, "JUMP!!"

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 1 November 2004 16:01 (nineteen years ago) link

ken has also installed an analogue controller in place of the steering wheel...
