Can anyone remember the name of that dance music shop across the road from the solid rock cafe next to the entrance to central station? It shut down a few years ago. Used to go in there a lot.
Is the one near sound control still there?
Only one I still know of is 23rd Precinct and I havent been there in years. Didn't think Ned would be interested in visiting that shop especially due to it's bad reputation of being elitist.

bomba. rub a dub is still there.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:26 (eighteen years ago) link

I think I was in 23rd Precinct, it wasn't so good. Rub-A-Dub was pretty great. I didn't even find Mono or Monorail or whatever. probably just as well, I spent about 50 quid in Rub A Dub.

I am currently being asked whether I want to Try Glasgow More with work w/c 22nd August or w/c 29th August (although neither is definite yet, and probably less than 50% for it going ahead before the end of September instead).

As everyone knows, I am perfectly willing to let social events influence my work obligations, so is there anything on that makes either week more attractive?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Arantxa - not the last weekend in September because I'll be in Dublin.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Monorail is the other end of Argyle St. Near the trongate.
Great shop that. Known dep about 14 years since he worked in missing. I always spend a fortune in there.

I definitely cannot on 1st-2nd Oct, work conference taking place in Madrid itself...12th Oct is Bank hol here, Wednesday. Perhaps I could take 10th/11th off or 13th/14th.

Dinosaur Jr at the ABC on 29th?

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:57 (eighteen years ago) link

That's a half-decent opening bid.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 13:58 (eighteen years ago) link

this is probably as good a time as any to mention that i shall be drinking heavily in mono from about 8.30pm on saturday night. stet will be there too. if anyone fancies coming along, it would be lovely to see you.

the occasion is related to an anniversary that happens with crushing regularity on the same day every year. i'm told that this time it's marginally more important than it has been for the past nine, although to be honest i don't give much of a toss about these things. still: any excuse for a piss-up.

Dinosaur Jr at the ABC on 29th?

I'm thinking about going to that.

If he doesn't, I'm doing it with menaces. That's a great idea.

a dinosaur jr FAP would rock. why these things always have to be on mondays, i do not know. moan drone chiz.

mädchen: aargh, what horror have you unleashed? he really will try to do this now. fuck.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:21 (eighteen years ago) link

also: i would like to meet ronan. but his original message has already disappeared off the top of the last 20 posts, and i'm fucked if i'm letting this slow-ass system attempt to load 3,700 messages. so, er, whatever.

have fun in the lansdowne tonight too, whoever's going.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:23 (eighteen years ago) link

You can set it to 50 if you want.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:35 (eighteen years ago) link

i tried that. it was unwieldy.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:38 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm ill too. : (

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:39 (eighteen years ago) link

Holy shit Dinosaur Jr is £15 + all the crap booking fees and shit.
I'm still waiting to see if my mate is going. He's skint. If it doesnt sell out I may get a ticket nearer the time.

Whats the capacity for the ABC?
Is it like the garage where you can park/get dropped off outside the venue by car?

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Lansdowne tonight, perhaps 7pm, for anyone who fancies a pint. Not sure whether to eat there or not, but after the day I've had I bloody well need a drink.

P.S. I love Ronan.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:03 (eighteen years ago) link

ABC1 capacity is a bit less than Barrowlands I think. 1200?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 15:06 (eighteen years ago) link

Dino Jr should be well worth the £15. That's not a lot to pay for a gig these days, what with Brian Wilson being £50 and all.

There's also gonna be a Plan B all day event on the 28th in Mono. Discussions on independent labels and publications and some bands in the evening. Everett True is staying home to look after his baby, which is a shame, cos I'd imagine hearing him speak could be quite entertaining.

Stew (stew s), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:17 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah but with booking fee/postage/CC fee it will be nearly £20.
If it doesn't sell out i'll prob go and just buy tickets from monorail next time i'm in glasgow.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:23 (eighteen years ago) link

I am thinking Lansdowne. Who's going, and can I watch the Celtic game?

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 16:36 (eighteen years ago) link

I wish I was in the pub. Ailsa, I hope to leave work at 9 so I'll be there by 9.30. Text Ally - he was talking about going for 7.

"If it doesn't sell out i'll prob go and just buy tickets from monorail next time i'm in glasgow."

Fair enough. Monorail are doing them for £16 inc booking fee. God bless Monorail.

I heard, last night, that the SS lives on lansdowne crescent.

this will mean nothing, to anyone, except, perhaps, colin (by SS, I mean the canadian fanny from strathy).

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 17:00 (eighteen years ago) link

Hey, I am off next Friday as well, if you mean the 5th!

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 17:21 (eighteen years ago) link

I might email dep and ask him to keep me one then stew.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 17:56 (eighteen years ago) link

Ailsa is on her own in the pub. This is dreadful. I thought Glasgow had learned how to do FAPs. Oh well, I suppose I'll have to leave work early and go rescue her, what a shame.

Mädchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 18:00 (eighteen years ago) link

And Celtic are losing 1-0. She won't be very happy.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 18:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm afraid I am too poor and sniffly to go to the Landsdowne. Have fun Glasgow.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 18:26 (eighteen years ago) link

um thats 4-0 celtic are losing now. Wouldn't want to be in Glasgow tonight.

um thats 4-0 celtic are losing now

I needed Glasgow sympathy tonight.

Thanks to those that didn't laugh, and to Onimo for support via text message.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 22:44 (eighteen years ago) link

I didn't laugh!
I only laugh when Motherwell Or Airdrie lose 5-0.

Last Of The Famous International Pfunkboys (Kerr), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 23:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I eventually laughed. When the Guinness had dulled the pain.

Motherwell robbed us of our title. They are, er, not the sort of team that exist in my mind. Unlike Airdrie, who don't even really exist at all.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 23:22 (eighteen years ago) link

It was amazing how each time a goal went in the commentators kept saying how thats they still thought celtic could win at parkhead. "now celtic need to score five " "now celtic need six"

That team looked like they could score everytime they went up the park.
And I can't believe that miss from two yards. And I'm an accies fan who has witnessed some seriously bad strikers over the years!

And correction. I laugh everytime Motherwell & Airdrie lose.

Celtics 1st game is Motherwell away this weekend isn't it?

Poor Ailsa.

Mädchen (Madchen), Thursday, 28 July 2005 07:03 (eighteen years ago) link

Messages of support? I thought they were more like "Yer right ailsa this is fucking abysmal!" - I suppose that counts as empathy :-P

I came into work this morning to face a slagging from the Bluenoses - the first person I spoke to was my boss - "Sorry Gerry, you didn't get a bonus." - way to cheer me the fuck up boss!

Onimo (GerryNemo), Thursday, 28 July 2005 09:54 (eighteen years ago) link

i bumped into my hoops-mad mate tony in the canteen this morning. he looked a) hungover and b) crushed, and was almost crying into his toast. apparently he started getting abusive texts from a friend in australia the second the match was over. (if you come to mono on saturday, ailsa, you can form a small support group with him.)

it's at times like this i give thanks that i care not an iota of a fuck about teh football :)
