The wisecracking prosecutor and I both worked on the school newspaper. The only thing I remember about him, though, was that he was really into Sandman.

Piwowarczyk kept an admirably straight face as he replied, “The defendant was informed that it was not yo’ cheese.”_
Seems like there should be a better way to make the play on "not yo'" and "nacho" more apparent in print. Great joke tho.
Wanda Sykes did a bit about reclaiming the N-Word by making it the brand name of a line of snacks: Original N--s, Sour Cream & Onion N--s, and finally, Nacho N--s.

Gah, Fritos and shitty nacho cheese sounds really good right now. I'm going to eat these baby carrots instead. :/

Seeing him Monday and then the Wednesday aftershow. Janelle Monae is opening the Wednesday UC show only, so hopefully she'll be at the aftershow, too.

I just heard Jack U Off for the first time yesterday. What a strange song.

There's a Robyn cover of that, iirc.

Pretty sure that's a given. Andy Allo is headlining, backed by the NPG. Prince produced and co-wrote much of her new album, and she sings back-up with him.
Still can't wrap my head around the fact that Prince will reportedly have an 11-piece (!) horn section.
― Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 22 September 2012 05:24 (eleven years ago) link
That's how I first heard it. I didn't know of it before and I thought it was a strange departure from her usual. I listened to the Prince original next. Nuts.

Just funny to me. We're not talking self-titled or "For You." "Jack U Off" is on "Controversy"!
Might I recommend "Dirty Mind" to all you slackers? "1999?" "Sign o the Times?" They're really good!

Also, I am not sure who else to tell about this weird experience I had, so I will tell you:
I went to a festival event at the Hare Krisna temple in my hood on Saturday. I will freely admit that I went for the music, but I was not disappointed on any level. There was a guy chanting with a harmonium, and a few drums/other percussive instruments going at pretty much all times. It was v enjoyable on that level. There were a lot of things to look at, and people were going here and there preparing for a large feast (to which the public was not invited). There was also a credit-card friendly donation machine, and we took our shoes off upon entering. I accidentally sat on the men's side of the room, and didn't realize it until I'd say about 15 min had passed. Wow. There were people dancing, but all women and children, and not with much vigor (with a few exceptions, including one very excited young lady of 6 or so, and a 20-something male of indeterminate origin)

It was enjoyable; I'm glad I went. Still, I can't help wondering what's going on in there.

And you are hairless now?
― canonical casual cordouroy (Eazy), Monday, 24 September 2012 05:16 (eleven years ago) link
Ew! No. Most of the people there were wearing street clothes, but there were a few monks/devoted people (all men, maybe a dozen max?) who were wearing the drapey sheets and had the haircut. A few women and children were wearing sparkly decorative saris though.

That is bad news. But just think - has ever a typo brought so many so much joy?
― carl agatha, Monday, 24 September 2012 14:07 (eleven years ago) link
I still hear his name right before the Verlaine Verlaine Verlaine Verlaine Verlaine part of Death and the Maiden.
I guess that typo has been a fruitful gift.

Ha, that Prince protegee, Andy Allo, who was booked at the House of Blues Sunday night, with the NPG as special guest? She went on 2.5 hours late, and then literally just played her new CD. As in, off the CD, over the PA. Then at the end, she and the band sang one song. No Prince. Hilariously bad form, protegee.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 September 2012 14:41 (eleven years ago) link
people bought a ticket for that?
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 24 September 2012 14:47 (eleven years ago) link
Well I'm guessing, from the sounds of it, that it wasn't billed as "Prince protegee will play her album over the PA".
― heated debate over derpy hooves (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 24 September 2012 14:50 (eleven years ago) link
They bought a ($35 + blues charger) ticket because Time Out and others were saying it was definitely a Price warmup show...
― canonical casual cordouroy (Eazy), Monday, 24 September 2012 14:52 (eleven years ago) link
that is super lamei'd be pissed if i paid $35 to listen to a CD 2.5 hours late
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Monday, 24 September 2012 14:52 (eleven years ago) link
It was billed as a listening party, with special guest the NPG. There was a band there, and all the gear. She's a singer and guitarist. And yet ... she played the CD over the PA. And then she and the band played one song. That's super lame.
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 September 2012 14:56 (eleven years ago) link
hahaha oh wow
― DX Dx DX (dan m), Monday, 24 September 2012 14:56 (eleven years ago) link
Like, if Prince's whole band is there, and it's the night before Prince plays six shows in Chicago, three of them at the same venue as this show, why wouldn't you at least make the leap that it could be a warm up show? I would have assumed that before I assumed it would be literally just standing there listening to a CD. Who charges that much money to listen to a CD?
― Josh in Chicago, Monday, 24 September 2012 14:57 (eleven years ago) link
I have never even heard of such a thing, much less one that was not already established as some kind of group listening experience "thing" like Zaireeka or w/e.
