Why is there a US-version of "The Office"?

It was still funny, I guess. Kelly was incredible, as usual.

I also literally covered my eyes, but it was when he attempted to kiss him!

IPSISSIMUS (Uri Frendimein), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:11 (eighteen years ago) link

yes very excellent. kiss was maybe a little bit TOO much but whatever, still hi-larious.

It was clever of them to follow up "kiss" finale with a more terrifying kiss in the season premiere.

Chris H. (chrisherbert), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:24 (eighteen years ago) link

So what happened with Jim/Pam? Just awkwardness or what?

I called the roomy, he found the torrent and clicked "downLOAD". Technology - 1, television - 0.

I missed it! I love Mindy Kaling. Did she write this one?

All great but I really liked the low-key humor of Stanley's speech about how he now has two toasters.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:50 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm completely eating out of the producers handsm trying to figure out what will happen with Pam and Jim. The agony!

What's the guy's name from the Daily Show who now is on the show? He works in the other office with Jim, and had his calculator placed in jello.

Kelly's face (of sheer glee) was PRICELESS when the whole horrible forced Oscar outing happened.

molly d (mollyd), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:00 (eighteen years ago) link

I haven't seen any of this. Should I start with season 1 or 2?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:11 (eighteen years ago) link

I am having a hard time remembering season 1, for reasons not pertaining to the quality of the show (I had class at night). Season 2 is completely wonderful and worthwhile. You will not be disappointed.

molly d (mollyd), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:16 (eighteen years ago) link

Season 1 clings pretty hard to the original version, I think the US version really got its wings when it finally grew into it's own story.

a naked Kraken annoying Times Square tourists with an acoustic guitar (nickalici, Friday, 22 September 2006 18:34 (eighteen years ago) link

Season One is only six episodes, so it's not a big investment in time or anything. Also, I still think that "Diversity Training" is the best episode from any season. Maybe any show ever.

Chris H. (chrisherbert), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:48 (eighteen years ago) link

loved the first episode.

creed is the greatest! so creepy!

we frenched once, in college. but it's because she was on E and sweated me bigtime

(hi mindy!)

i'll hook you two up

gbx (skowly), Friday, 22 September 2006 20:27 (eighteen years ago) link

she is a treat, btw.

gbx (skowly), Friday, 22 September 2006 20:28 (eighteen years ago) link

the fact that its back at all kind of mitigates against the over the topness of the first episode. (totally agreed about the drunk driving mugshot though -- that was just weird.)

looking ahead, i'm not really sure how they're going to draw out the pam/jim thing for a long time without either making one of them extremely unlikable or wading into tony/angela territory.

xpost my respect for gbx grows and grows

Angela talking about Will and Grace was the best part

Adrienne Begley (sparklecock), Friday, 22 September 2006 20:44 (eighteen years ago) link

When she screamed "Don't touch me!", I cringed, which I think was the point.

i love when creed was talking about all the people he slept with in the sixties and how "one or two" men could have slipped in. HAHA!! I love this show. I don't care if it's over the top!

gunther heartymeal (keckles), Friday, 22 September 2006 22:22 (eighteen years ago) link

Ex-Daily Show calculator-in-jello guy is Ed Helms. I was worried that his presence would be too "Hey look it's Ed Helms!" but he was very funny. There's a great deleted scene between him and Jim on the NBC website.

reddening (reddening), Friday, 22 September 2006 22:44 (eighteen years ago) link

yeah before the kiss scene we were actually yelling at the tv all omg no he is NOT going to omg he TOTALLY IS... no.. here it comes omg... haha. we are such suckers.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 24 September 2006 02:19 (eighteen years ago) link

I actually thought this episode, in a roundabout way, was a return to the format of the orig Office - more pranking, one scene with constantly buildling "it CAN'T get any worse, RIGHT!?!" tension, etc.

I think my favorite part was when Michael was first suggesting the hug and everyone's like WTF except Kelly/Mindy who was all joyous looking haha. It's between Kevin and Creed for who is my favorite character.

Also, Meredith the alcoholic with the hand sanitizer, OMG.

a naked Kraken annoying Times Square tourists with an acoustic guitar (nickalici, Monday, 25 September 2006 13:00 (eighteen years ago) link

Also also also, Dwight going in for his kiss, and Ed Helm's freakout and Jim's subsequent pretending-to-be-hard-at-work face (been there).

Hey, who is the actress that played the girl that called out Jim for that look he gives the camera? I know I've seen her before, and imdb has nothing.

Rashida Jones, daughter of Quincy.

I got Season 1 and Season 2 for my birthday! The extra scenes are utterly wonderful. The DVDs are also conducive to watching all of the episodes in one sitting.

I had missed a lot of Season 1. Really painful and wonderful stuff.

molly d (mollyd), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 15:17 (eighteen years ago) link

I had no idea I was soooo in the minority on this. Love the show, enjoyed the episode okay, but I felt no tension as it just kept piling on non-stop.

So much better than the British version.

vingt regards (vignt_regards), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 15:28 (eighteen years ago) link

I wouldn't say that either, but I was nowhere near being all "omg they're going to ruin a good thing".

They're both really good, but I worry about this season. I hope I'm wrong...

PappaWheelie demands you to ''only pick any'' (PappaWheelie 2), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 15:30 (eighteen years ago) link

I bet I'd love the show if I stuck with it for an episode or two (I've heard plenty of good jokes from it), but whenever I catch a bit the sense of seeing a bunch of people imitate the UK Office (right down to the shaky-cam, which seems really forced for some reason) creeps me out enough to change the station.

Zwan (miccio), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 15:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I have a major crush on Jenna Fischer, though. Hoo boy.

this was my situation with Arrested Development

PappaWheelie demands you to ''only pick any'' (PappaWheelie 2), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 15:34 (eighteen years ago) link

My experience with AD (initially horrified by the gratuitous joke-telegraphing narration, sat through an entire disc, became hooked) is why I assume I'd like The Office once I got over the Invasion Of The Body Snatchers element.

Zwan (miccio), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 15:35 (eighteen years ago) link

There is only room for one denim cutoff wearing dude in the OC now. (;_;)
