we got some raw hummus last weekend bc mr veg wanted to try it
he was v displeased

i'm not a huge hummus person, except for TJ's mediterranean hummus which I love. a lot of them have too much lemon juice, i think, they aren't smooth tasting.

I'm very picky about hummus, if it doesn't have enough tahini and garlic I can't eat it.

I ate Chinese crunchy radish yesterday. Amazing! Like roast dinner with Chinese five spice. 37p a bag.

When I make hummus it's raw (I use canned beans, heathen that I am), what's the distinction?

Yeah! I rarely know the day before if I want a bean dish.

canned beans are best for hummus imo unless you are some kind of full time hummus manufacturer

I accidentally made raw hummus once - I somehow thought I only had to soak the chickpeas, not cook them.

It tasted horrendous.

yeah there is a world of difference between canned/cooked chickpeas vs raw chickpeas. they're reaaaaaally bland. and they have a diff texture too. it wasn't good. though admittedly the raw hummus we got had no other flavors even attempting to try to make it taste good

for the money they charge for it, you think they'd at least taste it before shilling it to the rest of us

Hahhh, I am schooled. I guess I've never seen a raw chickpea! I've lived a very whitebread life, what can I say?

update: turns out I'm not huge on nutritional yeast. it has a weird flavor I'm not into

Best yonanas so far might be just with walnuts and maple syrup drizzled on.

nutella + fronanas tasted fine but again did not mask the banana taste, not that bananas + nutella isn't a bad combo, but i want to trick someone.

also anything + nutella is probably not a very healthy snack idea.

which is a shame because its' soooooooooo delicious

maybe invent a nutella substitute that has the texture of nutella but kinda really tastes like bananas?

oh and I learned about eating radishes today and I love them

radish pro-tip: raw french breakfast radishes dipped in soft butter and salt. Or thin-sliced radishes on buttered toast. With salt.

Well OK see the way I like it is for the toast to cool enough that the butter doesn't melt, it is just soft and supports the thinly sliced radishes so they don't fall into your lap as you nom

oh I wouldn't like it that way, I don't really like eating unmelted/softened butter, it makes me queasy

This is my favourite way to eat Marmite - a think layer on a slick of not-melted butter on cooled-down toast.

i used to like making 'worms' as a kid on salada crackers with vegemite and softened butter, squeezing til it poked out of the holes.

but now? nope. I don't even have butter on rolls at a restaurant unless the roll is warm enough to melt the butter.
