I made my master list in progress last night, I've only seen 66 new films. Can probably get to 90.

Hovering around 90 right now. Should be able to top 100 by year's end no sweat.

Was going to balk over Amour being tagged a "trophy horse," but I guess at this point, it's leading the pack in accolades (just the earlier-in-the-year, non-detriusy ones).

Best First Feature: How To Survive a Plague

(Docs didn't use to be eligible for this category, but the rules have changed.)

I watched Plague Friday night, and it is a more narratively focused (and conventional) doc than Jim Hubbard's United in Anger: A History of ACT UP, which I saw the next day at MoMA (it uses much of the same archival footage).

I admittedly didn't see the entire film, but what I did see in no way suggested talent beyond simple assemblage.

Sicinski says "The current parallel doc, UNITED IN ANGER, based on clips I've seen, is hyper-conventional. PLAGUE shows what it's like to act and organize from inside panic and confusion, to be *on* the shifting terrain."

"hyper" is a bit much. It does point out the obvious that in addition to intense and panic-stricken, ACT UP meetings were cruisy.
