Are you blaming me?

if the crown fits.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 15 August 2005 16:14 (eighteen years ago) link

I think, pending final confirmation, I am Trying Glagow More again with work the week of the Bank Holiday Monday (i.e. in a week and a half).

Since I'm not sure what work plans are (I may be changing jobs, so there's probably dining out in there somewhere) and ABSOLUTELY NOT TO MAKE A COUPLE OF HOURS TRAVELLING TIME AT DOUBLE TIME NO WAY NOT AT ALL PERISH THE THOUGHT I was thinking I might come up on the Monday afternoon. This may also avoid the feeling of DRINKING ON A SCHOOL NIGHT that characterised my last visit.

IS GLASGOW AVAILABLE?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 11:44 (eighteen years ago) link

this bit of glasgow will be working on the monday (the 29th, yeh?) as usual, but will certainly come out to join you later. insensible though you almost certainly shall be, having been drinking all afternoon.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 11:48 (eighteen years ago) link

No. I don't get paid until 31st, but if you choose to go somewhere that takes cheques...

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 22:52 (eighteen years ago) link

the tennis courts provide endless amusement:
"what those people don't realise is we're all one big family" [pause] "a lot of in-breeding in croatia."

cozen (Cozen), Saturday, 20 August 2005 16:50 (eighteen years ago) link

i was watching the scottish weather on ITV this evening and the guy reading it reported "a chance of spurious showers for tuesday".

!

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 21 August 2005 23:12 (eighteen years ago) link

I don't believe it.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 22 August 2005 07:02 (eighteen years ago) link

i didn't record it so i can't prove it unfortunately.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 22 August 2005 10:02 (eighteen years ago) link

OMFG Meteor Glossary

Spurious Showers.

If the paths of two meteors are projected backwards there is a 50% chance that they will intersect somewhere in the sky. By chance, other the paths of other unrelated meteors may also project back into this area of sky and the discovery of a new meteor shower is claimed. The higher the sporadic rates, the greater the likelihood that such chance lining-ups will occur and a few misidentified major shower meteors can also be included.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:03 (eighteen years ago) link

practise practise practise!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:09 (eighteen years ago) link

boom boom!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:13 (eighteen years ago) link

really, now you've suggested it, it sounds like a good idea.

I see the train goes there? VIRGIN train? I've never been on one of those.

Is it a nice ride? Will I see beautiful Scottish scenery?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:14 (eighteen years ago) link

yes a train comes to glasgow! amazing isn't it? get the GNER east coast line that goes via embra and you will see some amazing scenery althought the best of it is in Engeland (Northumberland) not Scotland.

it's a very good idea!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:17 (eighteen years ago) link

GNER?

Hmmm...what should I do? Should I go to Optimo? Can I buy a GLASGOW t-shirt?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:19 (eighteen years ago) link

there are lots of different routes/ companies that run from London to Glasgow but the GNER route (from Kings Cross i think?) is the most scenic.

xp Optimo!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:20 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm hoping to try Glasgow soon

Porkpie (porkpie), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:21 (eighteen years ago) link

What record shops can I go to? Or museums or galleries? Where can I eat a Glasgow meal? Can I see Celtic? What's the weather like?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:23 (eighteen years ago) link

What's the most Glasgow thing one person could possibly do?

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:25 (eighteen years ago) link

fail to attend a FAP!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:27 (eighteen years ago) link

That sounds a bit San Francisco to me.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Looking at the general logistics of the thing, it could just work. Crazy! Optimo!

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Monday, 22 August 2005 22:51 (eighteen years ago) link

yay! again!

jed_ (jed), Monday, 22 August 2005 23:01 (eighteen years ago) link

You should probably see Hearts, instead.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I would like a Glasgow t-shirt, with Mr Smiley on it. Do they still do them?

On the other line, you get to see the Lake District, or a bit of it. The bit of Scotland you see is... tranquil.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:07 (eighteen years ago) link

If you want beautiful Scottish scenery, you want to come up on the bus, through the Borders on the M74 is much nicer than the powerstations and seagull shit that characterizes the A1. Also the bus costs £1 if you book it early enough.

If you want really beautiful Scottish scenery, don't stop at Glasgow, keep going.

You can quite easily get tickets for Celtic games if you know when you are going to be here, they aren't playing away, and they aren't playing Rangers. The only home game that's on when you are over is versus Aberdeen on 10th September. Tickets on sale now, but only to people who have registered a previous interest. If you really want to go, let me know, and I can sort this out for you.

But really, they're crap. Go and see, erm, Hearts, like what Ally C said.

ailsa (ailsa), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 07:46 (eighteen years ago) link

did you win?

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 08:57 (eighteen years ago) link

second, by one point

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 09:21 (eighteen years ago) link

we threw away, at least, three points

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 09:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Willie Nelson.

We still got a £10 voucher. Apparently the food is good.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 09:54 (eighteen years ago) link

I got preoccupied & a black pudding supper

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 09:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Hearts, then.

If you want really beautiful Scottish scenery, don't stop at Glasgow, keep going.

I wish I could!
I think I might actually come up, though I don't have very much time.

How long does the bus from London take?

I guess I am looking at September 11th for Optimo. I'd like to see some of the city before I go, but I may only be around for a day or two.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 13:52 (eighteen years ago) link

i went to optimo on sunday, for the first time in two years. it is still absolutely the greatest thing ever. they played the instrumental of "the things that dreams are made of", FFS.

unfortunately i also got mashed, had folk back to the flat, and was sick in my bedroom bin at about 6am. o well. it just shows i had a good night. or something.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 14:52 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm thinking of going to the Instal Festival in Oct - Sun City Girls! Pauline Oliveros! - can anyone tell me what 'The Arches' is like?

Ward Fowler (Ward Fowler), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 14:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I want to do that please!

xp

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 14:59 (eighteen years ago) link

The Arches is a great space and can be a good atmosphere, though unfortunately sometimes the sound can be quite bad.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 15:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I just ordered a book from a shop on The Great Western Road - sadly that's the closest I can see me getting to trying Glasgow for the foreseeable future.

I don't understand. Is cozen in Glasgow? I thought he was going to Vancouver.
