It's quite a big circle! Just for scale, here's Badger sitting by the central cairn (he always kind of looks like he's pondering the cosmos btw, but I think he was genuinely feeling the vibe here)

I am not really a fan of dogs, but Badger looks like a Good Dog.

emil.y, Sunday, 24 February 2013 01:51 (eleven years ago) link

It's true, he's a good sort (when he's not digging up the *#~£$! garden)

Team NickB is a man down for tomorrow, putting in a distress call here for Matt, you gots to help me boy...

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 25 February 2013 17:48 (eleven years ago) link

I had a heavy weekend to say the least, but will hopefully be rested enough for tomorrow, may have a couple of friends coming too who could help on the indie side of things.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 25 February 2013 18:14 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, dooo it!

emil.y, Monday, 25 February 2013 18:31 (eleven years ago) link

(Oh, I've been informed by the landlord that the chef has left, so sadly no bargain burgers anymore.)

emil.y, Monday, 25 February 2013 18:34 (eleven years ago) link

xxp
how was life on friday night?

jabba hands, Monday, 25 February 2013 18:40 (eleven years ago) link

Music was very good as I expected, crowd was very student meat market though, I could have been the dad for almost everyone there, eek! I’m used to small crowds of heads aged late twenties and older normally. Too much crowding and people just walking through the dancefloor to really lose myself in the music until about 3 or so. Ended up going up to London on Saturday night to erase the bad memories!

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 25 February 2013 19:13 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, that's been my experience pretty much every time i've been down to one of those clubs, even for ppl you wdn't expect to draw that sort of crowd, e.g. theo parrish. good house/techno nights in brighton do seem in fairly short supply, unless i'm just totally out of the loop (fairly likely tbh). i've been to some good things at the green door store and there's this new 10 below place opening on ship street that looks like it might have some decent stuff on.

has anyone been to any of the go bang 'warehouse' parties? i like the name, no idea if they're any good or not.

jabba hands, Monday, 25 February 2013 19:41 (eleven years ago) link

If you fancy something deep, this will be the real deal, although a little away from Brighton: https://www.facebook.com/events/523063584379317

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 25 February 2013 19:44 (eleven years ago) link

oh nice! i know lewes well, wonder where that will be. but i will be in london for vakula/MMH/fulton that night...

jabba hands, Monday, 25 February 2013 19:49 (eleven years ago) link

Damn, I think that quiz night broke me.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 13:12 (eleven years ago) link

that was fun!! but yes, add me to the broken pile too

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Wednesday, 27 February 2013 14:30 (eleven years ago) link

Thirded on the brokenness. Glad you had a good time though, guys, it was a blast.

emil.y, Wednesday, 27 February 2013 17:34 (eleven years ago) link

Only just heard about this thing:

http://playgroupbrighton.org/events/2013/03/14/afriganza-festival-4-day-african-music-festival/

The Friday night with Bass Clef and the London Afrobeat Collective looks like fun

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 4 March 2013 10:58 (eleven years ago) link

It looks interesting, although I don’t know anyone playing! However, I’m up in Newcastle that weekend.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 March 2013 11:01 (eleven years ago) link

Well I can't say I'm an expert either really. Could turn out to be rubbish too, the few African music things I've been to in Brighton people have just been stood around like planks instead of dancing, which does kill the vibe a bit.

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 4 March 2013 11:20 (eleven years ago) link

Probably not yr thing at all but there's quite a few good noisy psych things coming up over the next few months too - Hookworms/Cold Pumas, Sightings/Sealings, White Hills, Guardian Alien

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 4 March 2013 11:22 (eleven years ago) link

I just don’t understand why people don’t dance to music which is good for dancing to.

O.o?

I dance to music even if it isn’t that good for dancing!

Could be persuaded for some noisy psych, depending on dates etc.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 March 2013 11:46 (eleven years ago) link

I'm not a big dancer unless I'm wasted, it's just a matter of being nervous/uptight/clumsy/generally not good at dancing etc.

Not sure I'd want to go to the whole Afriganza thing, was hoping it'd be more like the Japanese festival where it's all across town and you can dip into bits as you see fit. But might try on the door for one.

I very very strongly recommend Hookworms, seen them a lot now and they are awesome live. Though I have the feeling I might not be able to actually make that gig?

emil.y, Monday, 4 March 2013 12:45 (eleven years ago) link

Sounds like I need to get some Gary's in for you.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 March 2013 13:16 (eleven years ago) link

i think maybe hookworms is the night before michael gira brings his merry minstrels to town?

i too am not great at public dancing unless i'm a little wasted, but i get wasted v. easily so it all evens itself out

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 4 March 2013 13:25 (eleven years ago) link

Ah, yeah. I think there's four or five nights with awesome gigs in the lead-up to my show on the 3rd, and I just can't do them all without fucking myself up.

emil.y, Monday, 4 March 2013 13:28 (eleven years ago) link

yeah, you need to post up details of your gig btw

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 4 March 2013 13:44 (eleven years ago) link

I think it’s on that Facebook

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 March 2013 14:57 (eleven years ago) link

You should be able to look without being a Facebooker

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 March 2013 14:58 (eleven years ago) link

Cheers for that. For those unwilling to click away from ilx for even a second, it's Wednesday April 3rd at the Prince Albert, £4 advance, £5 otd. Ace Bushy Striptease are the headliners, and they're really fucking good lo-fi shamble-punks, if you like that sort of thing.

emil.y, Monday, 4 March 2013 16:04 (eleven years ago) link

w00t! (will try to make that)

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 4 March 2013 17:55 (eleven years ago) link

Yay, another midweek 6am session. :S

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 4 March 2013 21:46 (eleven years ago) link

Argh. Actually, the band is trying to work out rehearsal dates, and it might be the case that I have to sack off Swans, and thus SwansFAP, in favour of getting a last-minute practice in. Being our first gig, I kind of think that has to take precedence. Might not be the case, but it's looking likely.

emil.y, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:29 (eleven years ago) link

Oh no, that cannot be!

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

We want Swan FAP

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:37 (eleven years ago) link

lol

emil.y, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 17:38 (eleven years ago) link

Excelsior!

Chewshabadoo, Tuesday, 5 March 2013 21:59 (eleven years ago) link

Jabba Hands: I was wondering, do you mix? I’m always up for playing records with people. Also thinking about finding a venue with decks for a low key thing and would be good to have someone else to do it with.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 9 March 2013 10:32 (eleven years ago) link

i don't! not in public anyway. but i would be very happy to come and listen to you play records at a low key thing...

jabba hands, Saturday, 9 March 2013 16:09 (eleven years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Another quiz at the West Hill tomorrow, if anyone fancies it/is still allowed to.

emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 14:18 (eleven years ago) link

Haha. Would love to, but may need to skip this months one. However, you never know.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 25 March 2013 14:24 (eleven years ago) link

Yeah, a few friends were on campus protesting. Been a bit skittish about that sort of stuff since the horrors of the '10 protests so didn't make it over myself.

emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 15:39 (eleven years ago) link

managed to post this on the dj koze thread, ha

where should i eat before swans? never been to brighton before!

Crackle Box, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:51 (eleven years ago) link

Are you a vegetarian/vegan? What's your price range? Pub grub, restaurant, or chippy?

emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 16:55 (eleven years ago) link

Soo many choices :D

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 25 March 2013 17:04 (eleven years ago) link

Appreciate that, got kind of a queasy feeling myself seeing the police getting changed into their crash helmets and whatnot. Don't think that evolved into much of a situation though, but I didn't stick around for long after that. Good turnout, shame some poor bastard had all their files burnt.

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Monday, 25 March 2013 17:44 (eleven years ago) link

Eat everything not too bothered about price, nothing too fancy - won't have long. Amazing fish and chips type place if it exists?

Crackle Box, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:22 (eleven years ago) link

Fish and chips is probably the thing I know least about here, as I don't like it that much. I know the Globe used to do a good pub meal version, but I'm pretty sure they've changed kitchen staff since then.

emil.y, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:30 (eleven years ago) link

this is the place you want: http://www.bardsleys-fishandchips.co.uk/

jabba hands, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:50 (eleven years ago) link

otherwise my usual recommendation is planet india, amazing veggie indian food in what feels a bit like someone's front room.

jabba hands, Monday, 25 March 2013 18:51 (eleven years ago) link

Always preferred the chips at Bankers myself, but that's totally the wrong end of town.

Am probably up for pre-Swans fap & food if anyone else is interested. Trying to think what pubs do half-decent food in Kemptown.
