It was like Chuck E. Cheese with overpriced beer

THAT DECIDES IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no wonder you hate on boston (jillians=boooooooring)

kephm, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:10 (twenty years ago) link

although they do have Blackjack for prizes, not money sadly. And im the muther fuckin blackjack p-i-m-p.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:11 (twenty years ago) link

Yes, but in comparison to actually spending time in proper Boston attractions, Jillian's is pretty fucking ace, son.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:12 (twenty years ago) link

Q: What makes a bar interesting?

A: THE PEOPLE YOU GO WITH. There is nothing inherently interesting about a place that sells alcohol.

Although now I'm trying to think of karaoke places around town.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:13 (twenty years ago) link

i'm dying to do "Don't Fear The Reaper"

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:22 (twenty years ago) link

Jake Ivorys is downstairs from Jillians, if anyones down for a piano bar. um, yeah.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:25 (twenty years ago) link

Can I sit on the piano in a sparkly dress?

re: bars being boring that is soooo OTM and going to a bar for the "atmosphere" and not the people you are going with is horrifying and something that sometimes annoys me about the NYC FAP threads (but don't tell them)

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:29 (twenty years ago) link

I don't think thats a problem. I may do it.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:34 (twenty years ago) link

have fun people -what is a proper boston attraction anyways? burial grounds, statues?

kephm, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:36 (twenty years ago) link

cinniblount (James Blount), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:37 (twenty years ago) link

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 15:40 (twenty years ago) link

re: bars being boring that is soooo OTM and going to a bar for the "atmosphere" and not the people you are going with is horrifying and something that sometimes annoys me about the NYC FAP threads (but don't tell them)

When the people you are purportedly going to meet are outside smoking the whole time it helps to have a little atmosphere to distract yourself from the fact that your friends like tobacco more than they like you, but don't tell.

I really want to go to Boston. Is Felicity coming?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:21 (twenty years ago) link

haha that's not about you Mary!! (it's about Phil but don't tell)

You should come with. I don't know who else is going but I'm sure something can be worked out for everyone who wants to go? Didn't geeta say she wanted to come?

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:23 (twenty years ago) link

Oops, than I, er, take back about what I said about you guys smoking!

Can someone come to Boston as my date, please? Carey will be playing tennis with Felicity in England.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:26 (twenty years ago) link

Jillian's still has some of the best bloody marys and martinis I've had. They also have bowling and DDR and lots of other dumb things to distract you while you drink and be loud. The hot wings aren't bad either.

The only problem with Jillian's is the crowd, but considering some of the places we go in NYC and the places I've been known to frequent in the DC and Baltimore area I don't think I have any serious reason to complain.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:34 (twenty years ago) link

Also NO KARAOKE BOO HISS

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:36 (twenty years ago) link

WAIT!!!!! I just remembered there's a karaoke spot in Kenmore (aka 7 min walk from Jillian's)! I SENSE A PLAN.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:36 (twenty years ago) link

We can just make our own damned karaoke, what's stopping us from singing like lunatics?!?!?!?!?! I will not go within 5 feet of DDR though, I'm sorry.

Mary, isn't felicity back by then though? She MUST want to come???

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:07 (twenty years ago) link

Felicity is back NOW!!! Whether she wants to come or not, is a different story. I will begin grilling her.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:11 (twenty years ago) link

Medium-well Felicity FAP

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:11 (twenty years ago) link

I fully plan on sleeping in my car.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Thursday, 13 November 2003 12:47 (twenty years ago) link

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Thursday, 13 November 2003 14:26 (twenty years ago) link

and this was rilly amusing ... when everyone says yer city sucks, talk about its great medical centers?

Oh and as JP wrote...we have the best medical centers in the world, leading medical research, and we are improving Boston to beeven greater, every day. I have been around the world, and nothing ever compares, to coming home to Boston. And it probably never will.

i thought this was a thread about the band boston.

i'm sad that it's not.

they rock the universe.

the angry cowboy (dick), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:57 (twenty years ago) link

I hate Boston. I've got a sticker on my record player that says "Keep Boston Out of Providence." My friend Ren had them printed up a while back--kids from Boston who go to shows in Providence are assholes.

Can anyone recommend some cheap, nice hotels in Boston, preferably near the Orpheum Theater and/or the Chinatown bus drop-off/Greyhound depot?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 07:54 (nineteen years ago) link

As far as I know the entire concept of a nice cheap Boston hotel is an oxymoron. In general, if you want to go below $100 you have to stay a good 15 miles outside of the city.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 14:29 (nineteen years ago) link

morrissey stays at the ritz

buckminster hotel is your best bet, maybe? dan is right, even the super8 in watertown is $110.

Buckminster Hotel

whoops, the copy and paste was only supposed to start at 645 Beacon Street

oh yeah, that area can be a mess if the red sox are playing

kephm, Tuesday, 28 September 2004 14:35 (nineteen years ago) link

You can search a whole bunch of the online sites if you use Sidestep (http://www.sidestep.com) but really, within the area you specified you're going to be lucky to find anything less that $170. (The Buckminster is probably your best bet but it's over in the Fenway area, which isn't really far from Beacon Hill/Chinatown/The Financial District but is far enough that walking would be a pain and a cab ride would be irritating, plus what kephm said about Red Sox fans.)

You can also try this link: http://www.accomline.com/hotels.reservations/Boston.htm

They're listing a room at the Park Plaza for $131 which is kind of unbelievable to me.

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 14:39 (nineteen years ago) link

(haha I clicked through on their Park Plaza link and it's a classic bait-and-switch; "Oh, did we say $131? We really meant $229.")

Dan Perry '08 (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 14:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Thank you, Bostonians! Would staying at a freaky student club in Cambridge be weird?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 28 September 2004 14:46 (nineteen years ago) link

perhaps, they might drag you down to the goth club or run tests on you
