this whole series is pretty amazing. they're bringing in writers who have written about the northwest or used it as a setting. the writer comes into a UW class (that my stepdad's teaching, which is why I know about it) and then give a public lecture later in the afternoon or evening. Lx link?

jergïns, Monday, 9 July 2007 19:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Somehow I will stagger onward into my powder-less future. Thanks for trying!

Lingbert, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 17:50 (sixteen years ago) link

But FAP at noon on a weekday? ClassiC! (--jill btw)

the higgs, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 19:04 (sixteen years ago) link

I feel a Friday off coming up. Haha, the higgs! - I thought you were gonna make us all guess when you jumped in here :)

Jaq, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 19:22 (sixteen years ago) link

btw, Monsoon Wedding - not yr typical bollywood (not enough musical numbers, only 2 hrs long), but quite fun.

Jaq, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 19:27 (sixteen years ago) link

lingbert u are my database. may i never overwrite u

jergïns, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 21:00 (sixteen years ago) link

hai guyz I have been trying to listen to Minnie Driver today and that is some Sarah McLachlan-esk stuff, over and over and over and over and over. The Chemical Brothers are routing it out of my brane now.

Jaq, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 21:13 (sixteen years ago) link

the heckling begins!

FREEWAY PARK FAP: minnie driver kills us all

jergïns, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 22:20 (sixteen years ago) link

btw i was joking about the minnie driver fap at first, but now that i think about it, it could actually be fun. i have to work that day though.

also, i think i'll probably go see jet li's fearless too

Lingbert, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 14:26 (sixteen years ago) link

"joking"

jergïns, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I tried to convince Mr. Jaq with the "she's hawt!" argument, but he wasn't swayed.

Jaq, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 15:35 (sixteen years ago) link

maybe you could try:

"But Mr. Jaq, there will be heckling!"

lxy, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Forgive my ignorance, but who is Minnie Driver? (Not that it matters, as I'll be in SF that weekend.)

The Reverend, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 20:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Where to begin. She was in Grosse Point Blank and Good Will Hunting.

Jaq, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 20:37 (sixteen years ago) link

and where it will end we already know

jergïns, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 20:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I watch almost zero movies.

The Reverend, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 22:11 (sixteen years ago) link

More outdoor movie fun: Havana is one of my favorit bars in town, mostly for the secretive entrance and nice dance floor. But now they're going to do movies outside, on Wednesdays, and you can drink out there too. The list (oh yeah now with added DJs):

Wednesday, July 25 — SCARFACE (1983) with Soul One

Wednesday, August 1 — DOGTOWN AND Z BOYS (2001) with Sean Cee

Wednesday, August 8 — XANADU (1980) with El Toro

Wednesday, August 15 — BLOWUP (1966) with DJs of the Emerald City Soul Club

Wednesday, August 22 — GOODFELLAS (1990) with Cherry Canoe and very special guests

jergïns, Thursday, 19 July 2007 20:14 (sixteen years ago) link

BLOW UP is my pick of the bunch, if i don't see it at the Varsity next week.

jergïns, Thursday, 19 July 2007 20:15 (sixteen years ago) link

och!--this is looking much better
can walk there, drink outside, not miss work to see mr. jaq-hated minnie driver AND ECSC on possibly/probably decent sound system

Yeah, me too - Stewart Dempster, Amy Denio, and the group w/ Joshua Roman (23 y.o. principle cellist from the symphony - he has great hair) esp.

jergïns, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Jaq, we went to some of the festival of wayward music today. what a great room the chapel performance space is. we stayed for about an hour and soaked in the ambient and avant garde tones. you'll never guess who was there. A BUNCH OF OLD PEOPLE. it was kind of awesome, some guy messing with a Moog or hunched over a laptop and the blue hairs sat there and looked on. EXPANDING MINDS ONE AT A TIME. that was probably my favorite part. we saw one good guy though, Yann Novak, who played last year's Decibel Festival.

jergïns, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Hi guys!

Just a quick wave from me - there have been no noticeable breaks in the schedule here at the Clarion West bootcamp, but I thought I'd let you know about tomorrow night's reading at the SF museum. It's the last of the summer's CW readings as this is our last week (sob, wail). The reader this week is Samuel R. Delaney.

The readings are free and start at 7:30 p.m.
