WWDC sessions times are up. Way more TBCs than the last couple of years, especially in Presido. Bodes well for keynote, I think.

Bugger all for Xcode too. Fingers crossed.

Maybe Cook will have the patience for steadily improving web services cu it seem like Jobs didn't.

our supplier is 100% convinced new Pro hardware is coming next week.

my bingo card: modular mini thunderbolt cube thing

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 20:45 (eleven years ago) link

just read that somewhere. That it's totally thunderbolt based.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:21 (eleven years ago) link

yeah totally they just took a bunch of thuidnerbolt cables and rolled them into a ball and somehow imbued them with computing power

markers, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:40 (eleven years ago) link

if it's ready it's gonna be announced next week because why wouldn't you announce a machine that all your developers would want at a developers' conference. though maybe they won't want it if it's a crazy thing

markers, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:41 (eleven years ago) link

it'll be interesting to see if they shitcan the current mac pro

markers, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:42 (eleven years ago) link

also what they'll call this

markers, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:42 (eleven years ago) link

My money is on iAd, NewsstandKit, and PassKit updates!

Allen (etaeoe), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:45 (eleven years ago) link

The new Mac Pro model, expected later this year, is "something really different" according to a video professional who says he spoke with the Mac Pro product manager.

Allen (etaeoe), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:47 (eleven years ago) link

it's belgian

the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:48 (eleven years ago) link

Because we’re sharing unlikely Mac Pro stuff that we’d like to see, I’ll add: unified GDDR5 memory!

Allen (etaeoe), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:50 (eleven years ago) link

zip drive

markers, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 21:52 (eleven years ago) link

i actually had to plug in a zip drive two days ago. the only way i could do it was to replace the ATA optical drive on an old 1st gen Pro. I really should chuck out the SCSI zip drives i have on the shelf :-/

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:03 (eleven years ago) link

Ho! Could I maybe borrow one for a bit first? Have lots of stuff on an old LC and no way to get it off.

stet, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:22 (eleven years ago) link

woah hold up, there are some crazy jerks who might have use for information even if markers is like 'lol'??

Green_Partyhat for iFunny :) (Matt P), Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:37 (eleven years ago) link

i don't have a problem with the mac pro and as someone who follows apple it'll be interesting to see what they come up with

markers, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:46 (eleven years ago) link

even if i don't plan on getting one anytime soon, if ever

markers, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 22:46 (eleven years ago) link

Hoping for external Retina display in a big way. I'll go Asus if I have to, Apple, just you wait.

stet, Wednesday, 5 June 2013 23:04 (eleven years ago) link

assuming that means a unified facelift across platforms

two days until we can all go wild together

markers, Friday, 7 June 2013 22:43 (ten years ago) link

my current theory is

- retina devices only will get a new helvetica neue light derivative
- gruber will absolutely bloody cream himself
- pre-retina devices won't get the full new look, encouraging people with chicken wire ipads and macs to upgrade

the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 8 June 2013 21:27 (ten years ago) link

I'm really looking forward to a new look. windows 8 is making Mac OS and iOS look severely dated.

American Fear of Pranksterism (Ed), Saturday, 8 June 2013 21:42 (ten years ago) link

purchases tab in the ipad app store FINALLY has alphabet navigation

the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 8 June 2013 22:00 (ten years ago) link

also it didn't take 12 years to load this time

the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 8 June 2013 22:00 (ten years ago) link

I'm about to have a baby so I'm thinking of getting a desktop CPU for the first time in 10 years to do some teleworking. Is this a good time to get an iMac (I already have a MBP and two iPads)? Also is there a way to sync the HDs of the MBP and the iMac when on the same wifi network?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Sunday, 9 June 2013 09:30 (ten years ago) link

What kind of work do you do? Personally I would recommend getting an external monitor and just plugging in your laptop.

Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 9 June 2013 09:40 (ten years ago) link

Regular office job. My main concern is ergonomics as I can't really work very long or very hard on a laptop

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Sunday, 9 June 2013 09:49 (ten years ago) link

external monitor and keyboard then. completely syncing two computers is not really an option, and syncing home directories is still really a power user thing (to an extent it shouldn't be).
