come now rtc, fulham is custom-built for players like taarabt, and you wouldn't have had the coming of hitchcock if he was still at loftus road

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 09:26 (ten years ago) link

I like the West Ham shirt this year, there's a pleasing 80s retrocity to its proportions.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 18 August 2013 09:51 (ten years ago) link

Penalty calls both good imo

AOC lucky not to see at least yellow for his slide into luna, for the latter to be booked was o_O

At least there's Leighton Baines. Good old Leighton Baines, still doing the right things, quietly going about his business,

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 August 2013 11:19 (ten years ago) link

thought this was good too:

I can't really fault Jon Walters for the penalty, even if he has missed a few.

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 August 2013 11:25 (ten years ago) link

There's an element of educated guesswork here, on the basis that Baines has kept his feelings to himself, but

r|t|c, Sunday, 18 August 2013 11:37 (ten years ago) link

or that he is capable of feeling

There's an element of educated guesswork here, on the basis that Baines has kept his feelings to himself, but

Gareth Bale, like Baines, has not said anything this summer. That, however, is where the similarities end. Bale, we are told, is "distraught" and "horrified" he is still waiting for Tottenham to accept Real Madrid's gold.

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 August 2013 11:41 (ten years ago) link

the similarities end cos bale doesn't like miles kane.

when was the 'natural/unnatural position' aspect of the handball rule introduced?

Two ladies hold up another banner welcoming Jose Mourinho back to Stamford Bridge but then frankly let themselves down with poor grammar, proclaiming that they are "the happy one's". Poor, poor form.

In the airplane over the .CSS (Le Bateau Ivre), Sunday, 18 August 2013 14:47 (ten years ago) link

Not necessarily poor grammar. You all know those Stamford Bridge afterparties

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 14:55 (ten years ago) link

Well that was fun.

cajunsunday, Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:06 (ten years ago) link

Goalie goes for KO on torres. Then Lampard misses the pen.

cajunsunday, Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:06 (ten years ago) link

walk across, punch torres in the head, save his penalty = allan mcgregor shows you how to live

doesn't have the nickname shagger for nothing

cozymandias (cozen), Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:09 (ten years ago) link

It was a decent punch. Torres has a strong chin though.

is that div in the crowd really going to watch the entire match through the cardboard eyes of his cut out jose mask with his dirty hot chelsea breath coming back at him

Just remembered 'Bobby Tambling won't be on dis ting' was going to be my entry for this year's thread title, alas too late

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:27 (ten years ago) link

Hull don't look too bad. They don't really have a final ball* but pretty slick in possession with decent movement. They could probably afford to be more patient.

*I prescribe 1x Thudd. I would also really like to see Boyd

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:48 (ten years ago) link

great double save then

cozymandias (cozen), Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:48 (ten years ago) link

Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway: "I've got to learn what a foul is because I thought Nacer Chadli deliberately bodychecked Stephen Dobbie, smashed him down, and ran off with the ball.

"If the referee didn't see that, the assistant should have. You have to ask if he's good enough if he didn't see that. I don't see how he can miss that.

"A minute and a half later, we're arguing over whether it was deliberate handball.

"I don't understand how it was a penalty, or how Dean Moxey could have got out of the way of it. I had three players right behind him.

"It's going to be a long hard season for me with these people (referees). I had this with Blackpool. Certain clubs get fouls and others don't. Tottenham will feel that if they play Man United.

"Do I think I would have got that at Tottenham? No I don't. I just want a bit of fairness. I want a foul like anyone else would have got one.

"I've got a horrible taste in my mouth after that."

if I start the thread 'fuck off Ian Holloway', who's in?

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:56 (ten years ago) link

Holloway otm

it would perhaps be instructive to observe how many penalties CPFC were awarded last season

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 15:59 (ten years ago) link

it's about time a manager broke this code of silence bullshit about smaller clubs in the Prem getting fuck all from the officials

in France they piss on Main Street (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 18 August 2013 16:00 (ten years ago) link

Havent seen it but wouldnt surprise me, the refs individually arent competent nor brave enough to be corrupt but the FA are far too happy to allow them to make the least-fuss decisions and deny subsequent action.

dmacation problem (darraghmac), Sunday, 18 August 2013 16:10 (ten years ago) link

Mark Halsey said as much yesterday, it should've been incredible

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 18 August 2013 16:17 (ten years ago) link

he may have a point in the general case but I happened to be watching the minute or so of play he describes, and both were correct officiating calls imo

there was also a strong case for a spurs penalty in between that was not given

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 16:21 (ten years ago) link

chelsea just had the most stonewall penalty of *all time, bro* denied against hull, admittedly when 2-0 up

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 16:24 (ten years ago) link

ah yomp, missed ya

imago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 16:25 (ten years ago) link

95% of yomps are blocked, of course, owing to thudd's sloth, but my word I hope they bruise
