More outdoor movie fun: Havana is one of my favorit bars in town, mostly for the secretive entrance and nice dance floor. But now they're going to do movies outside, on Wednesdays, and you can drink out there too. The list (oh yeah now with added DJs):

Wednesday, July 25 — SCARFACE (1983) with Soul One

Wednesday, August 1 — DOGTOWN AND Z BOYS (2001) with Sean Cee

Wednesday, August 8 — XANADU (1980) with El Toro

Wednesday, August 15 — BLOWUP (1966) with DJs of the Emerald City Soul Club

Wednesday, August 22 — GOODFELLAS (1990) with Cherry Canoe and very special guests

BLOW UP is my pick of the bunch, if i don't see it at the Varsity next week.

jergïns, Thursday, 19 July 2007 20:15 (sixteen years ago) link

och!--this is looking much better
can walk there, drink outside, not miss work to see mr. jaq-hated minnie driver AND ECSC on possibly/probably decent sound system

Jaq, Friday, 20 July 2007 17:09 (sixteen years ago) link

i think i want to go to some of this. Free is important

jergïns, Friday, 20 July 2007 17:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, me too - Stewart Dempster, Amy Denio, and the group w/ Joshua Roman (23 y.o. principle cellist from the symphony - he has great hair) esp.

Jaq, Friday, 20 July 2007 17:23 (sixteen years ago) link

who is going to see daft punk

Lingbert, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:49 (sixteen years ago) link

YEP :D

jergïns, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Jaq, we went to some of the festival of wayward music today. what a great room the chapel performance space is. we stayed for about an hour and soaked in the ambient and avant garde tones. you'll never guess who was there. A BUNCH OF OLD PEOPLE. it was kind of awesome, some guy messing with a Moog or hunched over a laptop and the blue hairs sat there and looked on. EXPANDING MINDS ONE AT A TIME. that was probably my favorite part. we saw one good guy though, Yann Novak, who played last year's Decibel Festival.

jergïns, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Hi guys!

Just a quick wave from me - there have been no noticeable breaks in the schedule here at the Clarion West bootcamp, but I thought I'd let you know about tomorrow night's reading at the SF museum. It's the last of the summer's CW readings as this is our last week (sob, wail). The reader this week is Samuel R. Delaney.

The readings are free and start at 7:30 p.m.

DAFT PUNK ROLL CALL

jergïns, Friday, 27 July 2007 17:59 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm not from Seattle, but I'm here for the week, and I'm going!

And Capitol Hill Block Party later today!

Jill, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:29 (sixteen years ago) link

Cool! Hope you're having fun here. The Block Party should be great this weekend.

jergïns, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm going to Daft Punk. I'm also headed to the Cap Hill Block Party soon.

Matos W.K., Saturday, 28 July 2007 00:16 (sixteen years ago) link

this is 100% unrelated to daft punk and the capitol hill block party, but you guys should go to the theo chocolate factory in fremont and take the tour. totally worth the $5. it's really interesting, and you (i did, anyway) end up eating a ton of awesome chocolate by the time you leave. and as an added bonus, the tour guide (nicole, maybe?) was cute.

Lingbert, Saturday, 28 July 2007 02:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Anyone for the Pogues, Lily Allen or UB40? I've got tickets!

Psychic TV were supposedly on the way, not sure now, though...

Bimble, Saturday, 28 July 2007 02:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I'll try to make it down to Cap Hill tomorrow.

The Reverend, Saturday, 28 July 2007 10:31 (sixteen years ago) link

For some reason I was under the impression this was Sat-Sun, rather than Fri-Sat.

The Reverend, Saturday, 28 July 2007 10:32 (sixteen years ago) link

So, Mr. Jaq and I aren't going to the Daft Punk show, but Donut Bitch got in touch and is suggesting a pre-show meal, 3:30/4ish at Tamarind Tree (near 12th and Jackson in the International District). For some reason, DB is banned from posting to ILX, so that's why I'm posting this. Also, any excuse to eat at Tamarind Tree is a good one. Anyone needing directions/more info - get in touch. Let me or DB know you'll be there and we'll grab a big enough table.

Jaq, Sunday, 29 July 2007 03:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i think we might be up for this. as you say, any excuse to eat at the tamarind tree.

we also found an amazing chinese place a block away: 7 Star Schezuan Pepper. i have no idea how to spell schezuan. it's at 12th and jackson, hidden in the upstairs of a run-down 2 story, and has to be the best chinese food i've had since i was in china. so great.

jergïns, Sunday, 29 July 2007 03:52 (sixteen years ago) link

i need to talk to lingy and lxy, but we might come, around 5? 3:30 seems too early with the show at 8.

donut shouldn't be banned. that's just weird.

jergïns, Sunday, 29 July 2007 03:55 (sixteen years ago) link

if you like electronic music, check out october:

oct 1 - ulrich schnauss @ crocodile
oct 2 - mt. eerie @ vera (k, not electronic, but still)
oct 8 - trentmoller @ neumo's
oct 12 - justice @ neumo's
oct 29 - caribou @ neumo's

jergïns, Sunday, 29 July 2007 03:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh! I've heard of 7 Star Pepper, but haven't been there. Must go soon.

we'll drink mojitos 'til you and lxy get there :) The place gets crowded, maybe that's why donut was thinking so early. I tried the okra last time and it was nom nom nom.

Jaq, Sunday, 29 July 2007 04:01 (sixteen years ago) link

okay i just talked to DB and 4 pm makes a lot more sense now. plan on seeing me and lingbert and lxy (though i still gotta confirm with them haha my presumptuousness) at the tamarind tree.

jergïns, Sunday, 29 July 2007 04:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I will go to Tamarind Tree.

Lingbert, Sunday, 29 July 2007 04:14 (sixteen years ago) link

though i don't quite understand the 4pm meet up time. but i'm sure all will be revealed tomorrow.

Lingbert, Sunday, 29 July 2007 04:15 (sixteen years ago) link

db says it looks like djs at 630, rapture at 8, daft punk at 930. moves everything up some. he wants to get in there as soon as doors open. i want to drink between dinner and the rapture. that was a fun sentence.

jergïns, Sunday, 29 July 2007 04:19 (sixteen years ago) link

This whole having a job thing is really messing with my ability to go to anything cool in this city.

clotpoll, Sunday, 29 July 2007 04:54 (sixteen years ago) link

Donut is banned? Woah. That explains why he disappeared then. Still, that is really weird.

Bimble, Sunday, 29 July 2007 05:11 (sixteen years ago) link

I should probably go see Justice. I didn't know they were playing here.

Bimble, Sunday, 29 July 2007 05:13 (sixteen years ago) link

jill i webmailed you

jergïns, Sunday, 29 July 2007 05:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm pretty sure donut's ban is self-imposed for the purpose of more efficient usage of time.

Lingbert, Sunday, 29 July 2007 06:58 (sixteen years ago) link

The Donut's not banned in real life, for sure. I saw him just the other night!

Anyone else going to Rufus Wainwright?

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Sunday, 29 July 2007 09:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Lingbert OTM re: donut's absence. It sounds more like he hasn't been able to get registered, rather than being banned.

Anyone else going to Richard Thompson? Also, Nick Lowe is supposed to be playing in Bothell sometime soon.

Jaq, Sunday, 29 July 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

I will try to make this supper/luncheon/I'm-not-sure thing today. Hope to see you all there.

The Reverend, Sunday, 29 July 2007 15:42 (sixteen years ago) link

It was nice meeting you all.

I had so much fun tonight. I haven't danced that much for a very long time.

Jill, Monday, 30 July 2007 10:05 (sixteen years ago) link

jill it was nice meeting you too. how was the afterparty?

lxy, Monday, 30 July 2007 15:22 (sixteen years ago) link

down payment on a 2 bedroom house in Seattle? also, cost of house, please. googling that stuff is dangerous. thanks.

youn, Monday, 30 July 2007 23:05 (sixteen years ago) link

What part of Seattle? Things vary widely. It's generally expensive.

Jill, so great to meet you and glad to hear the show was so amazing!

Jaq, Monday, 30 July 2007 23:39 (sixteen years ago) link

thanks everybody that was really fun! and wow the venue didn't suck like i thought it would

jergïns, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 02:07 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm going to be out in the woods near Gold Bar this weekend.

Kerm, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 02:12 (sixteen years ago) link

camping? tell us how it is. I have yet to make it up to that part of hwy 2.

Lingbert, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 16:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Hmmm. For some reason all my camping occurs up around Granite Falls/Darrington and not along Highway 2.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

Or across the mountains.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 23:01 (sixteen years ago) link

hey Jill it was cool to meet you. Too bad we didn't know you before--you could have stayed at our house. Come back down from Vancouver if you get bored of the family and want to go out.

(Rev, good to see you too, sorry it was so short)

jergïns, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 23:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Kerm, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 23:04 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, definitely. Great meeting you, Jill! I hope the rest of your trip goes well.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 31 July 2007 23:30 (sixteen years ago) link

So long and thanks for all the... croquet

I am no longer in Seattle, so I suppose I had better take my leave of this thread. Thank you guys SO MUCH for having me and my little gang over for croquet and fun. I'm really sad I didn't get to see you again but things got seriously crazy in the last couple of weeks of Clarion and I pretty well couldn't see my hand in front of my face...

I loved Seattle & I hope to come back and sample more of its delights in future. I have loads of friends there now, yay!

love Z.
