There's a Mail article that goes over pretty much exactly the same ground, but is at least embarrassed enough to affect that it's just scandalised by her 'outrageous' facebook photos rather than going all in with the explicit perving, I'm not sure which should properly be considered worse.

there's a story out there about a Lib Dem councillor who works as a lap dancer or something, i left it out as not in this thread's original remit - happy that this remit has broadened btw - and not really wanting to republish it

A local councillor question:
If someone were to be on a Parish Council and it was proposed that, say, the field next to their house should be replaced by a factory or a housing estate ... would the councillor be allowed to have an opinion on this or would this be considered a "conflict of interest"?
― djh, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 22:02 (seven years ago) link
They have to declare a conflict of interest and then sit out the decision that their friends make for them
― Rock Wokeman (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 3 January 2017 22:06 (seven years ago) link
But would that count as a "conflict of interest"?
I'd much rather someone "local" (by which I mean directly affected) be arguing the case for the local area and I'm guessing that's why most people get involved in local politics.
For some reason, I draw a distinction between the above example and ... I dunno ... if the councillor owned the field and was going to make a fortune if it was built on (though perhaps they are just on a spectrum).
― djh, Tuesday, 3 January 2017 22:13 (seven years ago) link
Almost any kind of commercial building in the vicinity of a house is going to have some kind of impact on property value. Strictly I don't know how conflict of interest rules work at Parish level, or whether parish councils have jurisdiction over most planning decisions, but the thin veneer of local democracy has to at least maintain the illusion that elected officials must place the broader interests of the people who elected them over personal prejudice or gain - however unlikely that is in practice
