"The musician is reportedly a fan of the show and requested to appear in the episode."

Best is how he apparently pitched the writers the concept, etc. for the episode.

wrong thread, Dan

Murgatroid, Friday, 13 December 2013 16:47 (ten years ago) link

lol no, Prince swanning onto a hit television show and warping it around himself is actually an example of everything I love about life

haven't listened to the Beyonce album yet

SHAUN (DJP), Friday, 13 December 2013 16:48 (ten years ago) link

you just know he's written an entire album for Hannah Simone (and hasn't heard her sing yet)

Weird how this show is going through a stealth retool in the last month or so

  • Coach feels semi-permanent now, probably depends on if Wayan's pilot gets picked up next season
  • Winston quit his job at the radio station, now looks like he's gonna be a cop? I guess because having two sports-based characters was overkill and frankly he deserves a push
  • Cece inexplicably goes form being a model to a bartender
  • Kind of subtle, but the reveal that Nick did complete the bar exam and is choosing to be a bartender is a good step away from a seemingly inevitable "Nick gets his shit together and finishes law school" angle (please don't do this, New Girl)

Nhex, Sunday, 19 January 2014 22:49 (ten years ago) link

was cece related to the bits about her job last year? e.g. it being idiotic, no one at the date-a-thon wanting to marry her, etc.

gonna miss her roommates if they're leaving modeling behind :(

Was so happy to see her. She totally killed.

she's family, they can't write her out now unless they kill her!

which DON'T <3

j., Friday, 14 February 2014 04:16 (ten years ago) link

yeah so weir looked great, amazingly so cuz the mad men ppl managed to make her look older than jon hamm last summer. prince episode was superfun also. whatever hiccups this show had in the fall it's back in peak shape right now.

balls, Thursday, 27 March 2014 03:32 (ten years ago) link

They never really seemed to know what to do with Nick and Jess as a couple.

bizarro gazzara, Thursday, 27 March 2014 13:13 (ten years ago) link

yeah it never struck to me as a narrative that was tenable in the long run. the more serious the relationships get on the show, the more UNFUNNY INTENSE YELLING there is.

some dude, Thursday, 27 March 2014 14:36 (ten years ago) link

And the ways in which Nick is an idiot are becoming less funny and more irritating.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Thursday, 27 March 2014 14:40 (ten years ago) link

i mean i think the relationship arc only felt untenable because the writers forced it. too many arcs ABOUT the relationship instead of just treating it in the background

max, Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:08 (ten years ago) link

why could it not have been on purpose?

j., Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:15 (ten years ago) link

I blame fandom, also relationships never seem to work out funny on comedies

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:35 (ten years ago) link

well now Jess can date a bunch of famous guest dudes

yeah, not really looking forward to that (or on Nick's side either)

otm. used to be kind of a hapless stuck-in-his-ways schlub, now he's like two seconds from just soiling himself while screaming "MacGyver!" for no reason.

in general this season's felt relatively sloppy compared to s2 - a lot of scenes that are like improv-in-place-of-jokes instead of improv-based-on-jokes. like when jess got a hotel room and they just kind of had her yell in it.

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 06:15 (ten years ago) link

Which ws that? Ppl I know loved it

sonic thedgehod (albvivertine), Friday, 28 March 2014 06:39 (ten years ago) link

the one where jess moves into nick's room - which led to wacky revelations that jess reads in bed and that nick has a funny nightshirt (i guess previous nights she'd retire to her room after fucking?). that's cool people you know loved it.

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 07:17 (ten years ago) link

also does cece live in their building? she appeared to be walking in and out of the building a lot for no clear reason while sweating her texts to the young guy

tbh at some point they did try to show another side of him - he actally did take the bar exam and passed iirc -, but they then quickly came back to the "MacGyver" screaming as you say.

Jibe, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:16 (ten years ago) link

yeah i hated when they were finally going to let him show off his lawyer skills when schmidt got sued and he was just an incoherent mess - his save at the end was so weak I thought they might actually just have the actual lawyers be like "well, no. why would we accept that?"

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:34 (ten years ago) link

enough decent stuff this season (schmidt/winston still killing it, dug cardellini) that I'm still watching, though. the drop in quality isn't Suburgatory bad yet.

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:38 (ten years ago) link

ugh, poor suburgatory. so downhill this season

Mordy , Friday, 28 March 2014 14:38 (ten years ago) link

between the weak shit they're giving him to do on the show and all the movies he's doing, wondering if jake johnston might be David Caruso-ing out the door before long

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:40 (ten years ago) link

man i can be super patient w/ shows (himym) but i bailed on suburgatory after like two episodes this season

balls, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:48 (ten years ago) link

I made it to the one where Alan tudyk came back and I regret not leaving earlier

I was hoping Nick would whip out some crazy lawyer skills, get "Where the fuck did that come from?!" reactions from Schmidt and Winston, leave the opposing lawyers in the dust, and remain an utterly hopeless schlub in every other aspect of his life. Instead of "I'm not the guy who puts a toy together!" he could've been "I'm not the guy who's a lawyer!" Or something.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Friday, 28 March 2014 15:10 (ten years ago) link

But srsly did I miss some expo on why cece would just be walking in and out of their apt, elevator and building all day?
