Just unpacked our Baby Bjorn (as Charlotte has finally reached 8 lbs., which is the lightest one can be to be carried around in such a contraption)...and it turns out to be red and black --- KILLING JOKE COLOURS! HUZZAH!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:01 (twenty years ago) link

It begins! If it hasn't already.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:06 (twenty years ago) link

Musically speaking, the only song she's really responded favorably too -- oddly enough -- was the Clash's rendition of "Pressure Drop".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:16 (twenty years ago) link

kids love the backbeat, I swear to god.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 4 May 2004 14:21 (twenty years ago) link

Nah, the sleeping situation is still a bit of a problem. The problem really is the inconsistency of it. There is no pattern basically. She'll sleep in nice, big three hour chunks on night, and we get lulled into a false sense of security that she's adapting to the day/night routine....only to be rudely roused the next night by her absolutely demonic refusal to be still/quiet/calm etc. It's getting better, I suppose, but oh so very slowly. More frustratingly, she'll sleep incredibly soundly during the middle of the day (seriously, you could blow an air-horn next to her little basket and she won't so much as flinch). We'll get there, but there are -- literally -- miles to go before we sleep. But sometimes, she's a little quiet angel like this....

Sometimes, and I hate to say this to sleep deprived parents, but sometimes you have to do what you can to keep them awake to try and get their little schedules changed. I had to do it with Spencer, and it was horrible and we were both tired and cranky, but it eventually evened out.

Well, we're taking her outside a lot more, now that the weather has warmed up, and conventional wisdom dictates that lots of fresh helps to tucker her out. We'll see.

BABIES LOVE KILLING JOKE COLOURS BEST!!!

Although babies are able to differentiate between colors at birth, they prefer focusing their attention on contours, fixing their eyes on places where color contrasts are greatest. Toys in black, white and red will satisfy your baby`s preference since they provide numerous images with high contrasts.

She's beautiful, Alex! Best thread ever.

My favorite pic of all of them is near the top - you're wearing a Soft Boys shirt and holding her head by yours. :-)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:38 (twenty years ago) link

Haha, I love that middle one -- it's all 'OOOO!' on her part.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 6 May 2004 20:39 (twenty years ago) link

Was Alex on 16th street today with a bag of gifts for his child?

TheNewJMod (JMod), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:30 (twenty years ago) link

He was! He mentions it over on the Curve thread that he revived. Wotadotingdad.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:45 (twenty years ago) link

Hahahah...yes I was. They weren't gifts (more like bags of anti-poop-related gear), but yeah,...that was me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:48 (twenty years ago) link

Brilliant

say hi next time

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:52 (twenty years ago) link

my ears are misalligned

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:53 (twenty years ago) link

I see.

TheNewJMod (JMod), Friday, 7 May 2004 22:53 (twenty years ago) link

Seriouslly, did they look that out of whack?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 8 May 2004 01:11 (twenty years ago) link

Yes.

TheNewJMod (JMod), Saturday, 8 May 2004 03:55 (twenty years ago) link

That's most unfortunate.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 8 May 2004 11:10 (twenty years ago) link

On the bright side, the kid seems genetically sound.

TheNewJMod (JMod), Saturday, 8 May 2004 13:07 (twenty years ago) link

Freakin' impossibly cute.

Je4nne Ć’ury (Jeanne Fury), Saturday, 8 May 2004 13:19 (twenty years ago) link

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 10 May 2004 00:18 (twenty years ago) link

Haha! Raising her to read from an early age, I see. ;-)

Actually, Alex, you will appreciate this -- yesterday after leaving Amoeba, friend Stripey and I passed by two Chicano skaters who couldn't have been older than eighteen or nineteen, and one was wearing a brand-spanking new Killing Joke first album graphic T-shirt. Fire was thus honoured.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 May 2004 16:06 (twenty years ago) link

Alex, who is that holding her in the red shirt?

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 16 May 2004 16:24 (twenty years ago) link

That's Alex himself!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 May 2004 16:30 (twenty years ago) link

he's getting really skinny. There is NO ASS in that photo.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 16 May 2004 16:54 (twenty years ago) link

And the photo is the poorer for it, in my opinion.

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Sunday, 16 May 2004 16:54 (twenty years ago) link

No lie, I've totally lost about five pounds since the arrival of the little one. Five pounds of ass, inevitably.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 May 2004 18:01 (twenty years ago) link

Teenage Chicano Skaters who Honor the Fire? Who'da thunkit?

Good bad name, that.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 May 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago) link

baNd...

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 16 May 2004 18:09 (twenty years ago) link

A sleeveless Venom shirt. Sir, I salute you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:09 (twenty years ago) link

Wow. babies really are incredibly small people.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:47 (twenty years ago) link

When was that taken then?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago) link

Judging by the decor, probably 1948.

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:49 (twenty years ago) link

I guess I'd kind of like to have a baby, but it would have to like sleeping on our air mattress.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:50 (twenty years ago) link

Though I guess it could have the sofa, as long as it didn't sweat too much. Our sofa is faux-leather.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 19:51 (twenty years ago) link

I love this thread. Love it.

My big brother became a father for the first time yesterday. I'm kind of missing it all as he is in the US, so having someone else's baby photos and first-time daddy-ness is helping a lot.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 20:33 (twenty years ago) link

Charlotte likes things!

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Sunday, 23 May 2004 23:01 (twenty years ago) link

It looks like she wants daddy's Budweiser!
