Joslyn is very likeable. She's funny, intelligent, and sweet. She's got Miss Congeniality in the bag.
― LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:22 (ten years ago) link
Hmm, you think? I mean I can see that but she's still a little too anonymous to me, even in comparison with Ivy, who was a little understated but still had something more to offer. And DEFINITELY in comparison to Yara and Latrice! If anything I'd say Courtney right now.
― Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:26 (ten years ago) link
I agree we still have to see more of her, but for me she's passed Ivyyyyyy already.
― LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:30 (ten years ago) link
If not I would go with Ben rather than Courtney. Speaking of understated, what's going on with Milk ? She seems to be fading in the background. Or is that the editing ? During Untucked we didn't even get a word from her about her male RuPaul.
― LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 25 March 2014 16:36 (ten years ago) link
I'd guess the editing. If anything they CLEARLY had to be taking out all the bits in the workroom first when everyone else realized what she was doing.

can we go over there right now & give lil Trinity a big hug? that girl's low confidence is killing me every week
If Trin deserves hugs, then so does Laganja, because... well, I forget why, but what you said at some point in time, vaguely in the direction of Laganja, or at least within her hearing distance, was very hurtful. Seriously though -- this season has a real deep gap between the veteran heh heh high fliers and the talented but deeply insecure, heh heh high-maintenance drag rookies.
I also want to defend Laganja to an extent: I'm wagering that a large amount of what she's learned about drag has come from the show, which has inculcated these narcissistic and melodramatic values and beliefs in her.
Kinda wonder how much longer the old-lady schtick will hold up
Wasn't this just the second time Ben went old lady? And the first time, it was one of the (limited number of) roles? Smells like the judges are fishing for a way to ding her.
OTM! The most memorable thing about Ivy was the way Ru said her name.
As for Milk, I kinda hope she goes the Tammie way, going out with weirdness a-blazing.

You're right about LaGanga, I hadn't thought about that. She's the classic cliched drama queen reality show contestant who comes in all 'I'M NOT HERE TO MAKE FRIENDS' thinking that that how you're supposed to be and then within a week they're all 'no-one likes me i don't understand sob sob sob' ;_;
I think if LaGanga wasn't so thin skinned and reactionary Bianca could totally help her on the straight and narrow, she's been dishing out some pretty good advice in amongst the barbs.
We'll see. Maybe she'll pull a Tyra and do a 180

how great was Bianca's line, 'bitch if I'm gonna come for you I'll come into room at night and cut up your wigs'

I hope it's happening behind the scenes or that it's been edited out; I think that Trinity and Bianca are pals now, for instance.
tbh for me, Tyra did a 360.
Anyway, here's Adore doing her Gia impression:

I never know if it's 180 or 360
becuase if you do a 360 you're back to where you started, whereas a 180 you're facing a different direction

And I think Bianca's a little miffed at losing to Ben there but damn Ben pulled it out, and that was a great dress, so.
Yes Ben killed it!
“I’m unfamiliar with the work of Lady Handler. However, I did think it would be rather amusing if there were a libation flavored with citrus! Can you imagine such a thing?”
I died.

Gia should show up once a week just to say something dumb to the camera, for old times' sake.
― Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Tuesday, 25 March 2014 21:59 (ten years ago) link
Well...Ivy DID win one episode before she went, so let's see Joslyn step up for that first!
-Wasn't this just the second time Ben went old lady? And the first time, it was one of the (limited number of) roles? Smells like the judges are fishing for a way to ding her.
Yeah there hasn't been any sort of real pattern there for her. Older *styles* sure, but not full-on 'old lady' per se beyond this and the horror film, unless you want to count the opening Golden Girls thing. (Which she won for!)
Gotta say that for not doing impersonations he pulled it off well. That and the 'invented the language' bit.

Gia's Whatcha Packin episode is kinda cool! A little less dumbed down, I think, and there are some great outfits:

Just caught up with this week's. (Had been waiting for a night when my friend and I could watch it together and he went ahead and watched it without me. Bitch!)
It was a tight snatch (game), and I don't think they chose incorrectly. Adore and Bianca understood their characters more fully, obviously, but I think Ben showed better improvisational chops, which is first and foremost in an acting challenge.
The montage of exasperated looks from everyone to Laganga's "you hurt me with that remark; did I mention that I cried?" breakdown in the Untucked had me in stitches.

Milk's apparently on borrowed time now, to judge from this editing.

And as much as I know the editing can lead everyone by the nose, it's clear a lot of those Julia Child punchlines fizzled. Didn't we get some bonus Snatch Game clips last season?
― Eric H., Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:45 (ten years ago) link
Oh wait, never mind I found it.
i thought santino's comment about her constant inversion of drag becoming a staid version of her own self was actually perceptive
milk's bigger problem is that she's sort of invisible in challenges. her julia child was shockingly poor.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:47 (ten years ago) link
Jeez, just give us the raw tape, Logo. That was scarcely worth sitting through the ad.
― Eric H., Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:48 (ten years ago) link
Yeah, Julia Child is one of those "how do you fuck that up" free squares of camp.
― Eric H., Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:49 (ten years ago) link
i really wasn't feeling ben until this week. she sorta has the opposite dynamic of milk, being really standout in challenges but mostly pedestrian and competent on the runway.
i find laganja (god, i hate that name) to be pretty tiresome. objectively speaking i don't think gia tried hard enough in the lip sync to win but there was something seriously overworked about laganja's jump-splits and shit. it was like watching the drag version of the star wars kid.
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:50 (ten years ago) link
lol @ "free squares of camp"
I think Milk's argument of stayimg true to her identity is kind of a crutch at some point. Why are you even on the show, otherwise. Sharon Needles was always getting a raft of shit for not being glam enough, Jinx too...there's a way to still kill it, adapt & not lose yr identity.
Not that Milk appears to be at that level, talentwise #juliachildyeesh

Yeah, Ru's made it a point to observe multiple times this season that getting the audience to like you is crucial, and I think the problem with weirdness as Milk serves it (as opposed to Sharon) is that its primary point seems to be to tell her audience "betcha didn't see this coming." Fine once in awhile, but enough times and your audience is going to think you're calling them dumb.

First off thank you for a prime Moz/MST3K reference there, Eric.
Yeah Milk...I wonder a touch. This is one of those loaded roads to go down but given in boy life he's a clearly tall/strikingly good looking sort I get a little sense he's gone through life in a happier fashion than others and as a result his "Well I'll show THEM" moves might be a little more self-amusement than "gotta MAKE it!" Now having said that next week we'll get some hyper horrible backstory...
Speaking of which: poor Ben! I'm over three times as old as she was when she lost her mom and I'm definitely not ready to see mine go any time soon. I mean you compare that (and Trinity almost losing her mom) to Laganga's snit fits and I'm all "Count yer blessings, blondie."

Milk leaving before Laganja and Trinity was kind of a surprise. But although I liked her first couple of looks, she wasn't really bringing much to the show. And Trinity killed the lipsynch.
― LeRooLeRoo, Tuesday, 1 April 2014 05:50 (ten years ago) link
yeah i was surprised milk went home but for whatever interesting things she did on the runway it never transferred to the challenges where she was always mediocre or worse
and yeah trinity was really good at lip sync, it makes a bit more understandable how she always uses that as a crutch when she fails at singing/acting/rapping/being funny
