Words the poem robot things rhyme:
sweater / adjuster tissue / barbecue spur / err widest / fondest AUSTERE / DEBONAIR (maybe it is from New Zealand?) reappear / blare bided / avoided gnawed / avowed having / abolishing WHITTLE / BOTTLE
― nabisco, Friday, 27 June 2008 23:27 (fifteen years ago) link
Actually I will also grant "reappear / blare" on "this might almost rhyme in New Zealand" grounds.
― nabisco, Friday, 27 June 2008 23:28 (fifteen years ago) link
Also "bided / avoided" -- ok, fine, clearly this is all based on the official New Zealand Rhyming Dictionary
Many people do not seem to understand that robots are masters of off-rhyme.

Austin SWAT Standoff Ends; Suspect Not In Hotel Room CBS 42 Reporter: Katherine Stolp Email: klst✧✧✧@key✧✧✧.c✧✧ Last Update: 9:52 am Print Story | Email Story Set Text Size Small Set Text Size Medium Set Text Size Large Set Text Size X-Large SWAT Standoff Ends A swat standoff that began at 1 a.m. Monday morning turned into a manhunt about four hours later.
Police say the man they’re now looking for has a background in law enforcement in Bexar County.
It all started at the Doubletree Hotel in the 1600 block of North I-35. That's between East 15th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Police received a call about a domestic dispute from inside a Doubletree hotel room. When authorities arrived, a woman involved in the dispute told them the man was still inside that room.
Four and a half hours later, after the SWAT team took all necessary precautions, they found out no one was there. So, a manhunt has now begun.
The man is white, 27-years-old, 5’8’’, 185 pounds, wearing a black shirt and white shorts.
If you have any information, call the Austin Police Department.

Four and a half hours later, after the SWAT team took all necessary precautions, they found out no one was there. "We suspect the use of magic," reported a source close to the department, "but nothing's been confirmed." So, a manhunt has now begun.
The man is white, 27-years-old, 5’8’’, 185 pounds, wearing a black shirt and white shorts. Citizens are cautioned to keep their distance, as the suspect is reportedly in possession of a notebook of "ill rhymes."

Basically dude beatin on the girl was former san antonio sheriff's dept guy. APD couldn't get into the room, so they assumed he'd barricaded himself in. APD proceeded to freak that he'd come out guns blazing, so they spent four hours clearing everybody off the fifth & sixth floors (lol @ 60 people wanting comp rooms) and got their battering rams and shotguns and tear gas ready and finally took down the door and dude was gone.
i didn't have the heart to tell them we have 4 or 5 doors that only open if you turn the handle upwards.

Haha corporate instructed us to "give them free breakfast if they push it, but nothing more: it's not our fault that a guy with a gun beat his girlfriend, and we didn't have them moved. APD did. Do NOT, under any circumstances, comp a room."
Corporate are some money-grubbin dbags.
My new boss comped a couple rooms, making me look like an asshole for following protocol. Meet the new boss...

I do think it'd be a difficult decision, whether to comp the rooms. Sizeable loss of revenue, but hey, shit happens. This ain't the Ritz.
― wanko ergo sum, Monday, 25 August 2008 17:46 (fifteen years ago) link
What's up with people who are like "oh some guy was armed and beating a woman--I want my comped room NOW."
― call all destroyer, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:00 (fifteen years ago) link
Well the reason they want their room comped is that they were woken up at 1 am and moved to new rooms by members of the Austin SWAT team.

― elan, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:08 (fifteen years ago) link
Yeah I mean that sucks but I cannot imagine asking for a comp room because of it.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:09 (fifteen years ago) link
Nah honestly I think it's totally fair to be upset about it and want some kind of compensation for the shit that went down, and "just comp my room and we'll call it even" is usually the first recourse in that kind of situation. It's frustrating that corporate will comp a guy's room if he complains loud enough about his mattress being "too soft," but they won't let us compensate people who get shuffled around in their pajamas by dudes with assault rifles.
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:12 (fifteen years ago) link
OK that I get--the things you fail to remember when you haven't worked a customer-facing job for years.
― call all destroyer, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:14 (fifteen years ago) link
It's out of the hotel's hands. It's like wanting a comp b/c it was thundering all night and you couldn't sleep.
― wanko ergo sum, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:18 (fifteen years ago) link
Unless the Austin Doubletree is specifically courting an undesirable element of psycho ex-cops.

do the guests have to pay for their room if they're forced off their floor by a fire?
― omar little, Monday, 25 August 2008 18:41 (fifteen years ago) link
I don't know.
Corporate would say yes. "The fire/power outage/car burglary/giant squid attack wasn't our fault, we're not liable, we're not paying for their room."
I can guarantee you at least a dozen people would demand that their rooms be comped though.
