between the weak shit they're giving him to do on the show and all the movies he's doing, wondering if jake johnston might be David Caruso-ing out the door before long

like i'm more curious about community season 4

balls, Friday, 28 March 2014 14:53 (ten years ago) link

yeah i hated when they were finally going to let him show off his lawyer skills when schmidt got sued and he was just an incoherent mess - his save at the end was so weak I thought they might actually just have the actual lawyers be like "well, no. why would we accept that?"

I was hoping Nick would whip out some crazy lawyer skills, get "Where the fuck did that come from?!" reactions from Schmidt and Winston, leave the opposing lawyers in the dust, and remain an utterly hopeless schlub in every other aspect of his life. Instead of "I'm not the guy who puts a toy together!" he could've been "I'm not the guy who's a lawyer!" Or something.

But srsly did I miss some expo on why cece would just be walking in and out of their apt, elevator and building all day?

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 15:51 (ten years ago) link

they're friends? her life is a mess right now?

j., Friday, 28 March 2014 15:52 (ten years ago) link

She didn't interact with Jess once though! Just with the ex who doubletimed her and his roommate who she hooked up with. Just curious if there was a line about crashing there after drinking and waiting for a drug shipment to arrive that would require multiple trips in and out or something.

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 15:56 (ten years ago) link

well they have been working on storylines about her growing closer to the roommates, right?

j., Friday, 28 March 2014 16:11 (ten years ago) link

Hey I'm more than capable of doing their work for them too, I'm just curious if they did it and I missed it. And this is coming from a place of amused curiosity, no need for "it's just a comedy, who cares" responses

da croupier, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:18 (ten years ago) link

i've just been assuming that deleted scenes will show her and daddario lezzing it up and that's why she's there. just closing my eyes and assuming.

balls, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:19 (ten years ago) link

lol

Croup as OTM as ever wrt this season.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Friday, 28 March 2014 20:11 (ten years ago) link

I'm mainly watching this show for Winston right now. They've messed with Schmidt too much (although he can be brought back).

Spencer Chow, Friday, 28 March 2014 20:25 (ten years ago) link

I assumed Cece spent the night there after playing True American and was too hungover to leave? When I am hungover I don't have a ton of agency.

erry red flag (f. hazel), Friday, 28 March 2014 20:35 (ten years ago) link

OTM, it's not an issue.

was this just made for winston's benefit

r|t|c, Saturday, 7 June 2014 21:16 (ten years ago) link

very confusing

r|t|c, Saturday, 7 June 2014 21:16 (ten years ago) link

they broke this show when they broke them up. the inverse of the typical sitcom rule, but the last few episodes of last season were joyless.

it definitely wasn't designed to be a pants pocket player (stevie), Saturday, 7 June 2014 22:40 (ten years ago) link

"just doin' e and watchin that show ed"

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 1 October 2014 23:39 (nine years ago) link

not only am i mad that they've intentionally crushed all sexual tension between the characters from a shipping standpoint, i think it's also reduced everyone's character to "i'm a well-meaning idiot" lest they accidentally click on any level beyond "amiable roommate"

da croupier, Thursday, 2 October 2014 16:01 (nine years ago) link

there are still decent jokes and takes but omggggg why would they delete season 2 from the show's psychological record AS WELL AS season 3?

da croupier, Thursday, 2 October 2014 16:02 (nine years ago) link

i wonder if hollywood up-and-comer jake johnston wears sunglasses between takes and lets everyone know he's their shelley long cuz i don't know why else you'd take the show's romantic lead and turn him into a sexless oaf

da croupier, Thursday, 2 October 2014 16:04 (nine years ago) link

p much agree, still has lols but its not promising to have as zzzz an ep plot structure as the tinder/weed 1 so early in the season

johnny crunch, Thursday, 2 October 2014 16:09 (nine years ago) link

i was so invested in nick miller's emotional growth, i feel schmidt-level frustrated about this

da croupier, Thursday, 2 October 2014 16:12 (nine years ago) link

Croup OTM as ever

EveningStar (Sund4r), Thursday, 2 October 2014 16:28 (nine years ago) link

not watched the new series yet, but feel they screwed the pooch v badly at the end of s3

A college wearing a sweater that says “John Belushi” (stevie), Thursday, 2 October 2014 18:39 (nine years ago) link

yeah.

second episode was better than first, but it's all pretty broad slapstick and sex and wackiness. not a lot of plot or heart.

dan selzer, Thursday, 2 October 2014 18:43 (nine years ago) link

yeah, it seems they're just trying tobring to yuks now--which is cool--but I'm contnet to catch up on this show next summer on Netflix.

ugh nm

Yo Gotti Nutter Ting Hummin' (President Keyes), Thursday, 2 October 2014 19:16 (nine years ago) link

I lolled hardcore at this week's 'cumin' gag but yeah, this show is treading water and has been for a while. I assumed when it started that the show would be a bunch of nutty kooks yelling at each other and was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to have some depth, but now it seems to be devolving into exactly that.

Mostly it just makes me wish 'Happy Endings' was still around :(

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 3 October 2014 08:53 (nine years ago) link

Before I start trying to download any of the new episodes, are they giving anything cool for Winston to do this season? Because he was woefully underused last season.

A college wearing a sweater that says “John Belushi” (stevie), Friday, 3 October 2014 09:30 (nine years ago) link

nope :(

bizarro gazzara, Friday, 3 October 2014 09:32 (nine years ago) link

They've moved on the Winston-at-police0academy storyline a bit but 'woefully underused' is otm. Which is tragic, because he is one of TV's most wonderfully odd characters.
